I'm a guitar player, not a singer. But I would like to be able to sing for fun, and when jamming with my friends. I've basically got down being able to sing while playing guitar, so that isn't really a problem.

My problem is mostly just being too shy to sing. This usually causes me to do that "whisper" singing, if you know what I mean. It's just not really projecting good. I can do somewhat well on clean vocals, but srceams and growls do not project at all. I don't know if it's because I don't warm-up, or because I'm too shy(probably both).(I always secretly wanted to be the vocalist in a band, even though my passion is guitar).
For instance, today I was home alone, and planned to record my singing
(I was trying to sing Death's "Flattening of Emotions"), and even though I was alone, I just couldn't project too good. Playing the guitar while singing makes me a little more comfortable, but not much.

So, I really would like any suggestions or advise, on how to overcome my fear of actually trying to sing good in front of my friends and by myself, and on how to project good. Also, please explain me some good vocal exercises to help me from having a quiet singing voice.
Thanks for your help :chug:

EDIT: Sorry for not metioning examples of how I want to sing(Kinda Varied):
Maynard-Tool
James Hetfield-Metallica
Chuck Schuldiner-Death
Those are all kind of different, and are all very good singers, so that may be a little overboard, for doing this as just for a little fun.

I think a great example would be Mudvayne's singer(I get confused with their names).
He has an awesome clean voice, and his screams are really good and intense.

the shyness is tough to get past, i had the same problem. i got through it by singing in my car with really loud music. that was where i learned to project and everything without worrying about being heard. once you get that down, everything else becomes a little easier. just take things one step at a time. and warming up is always important.
