hey, i'm new to all of this and wondered, does anybody know a basic programme I can use to lay down some drum beats and synth/keyboard parts and then put my own guitar over the top?
thanks

yeah, guitar pro is a good one if you're new, but its still very limiting. If you want something a bit more versatile, try a recording program that includes midi tracking like ACID or even GarageBand (on macs). If you're new, start with guitarpro, but if youre getting into this, youre probably gonna end up with a program like acid or garageband sooner or later.

i think most of them (cubase, protools, etc.) do that.

Use Reason and Cubase together for the nirvana* of home recording set-ups.
