I'm going to expand my set up to generally be alot more useful.
I'm working on a 600 pound budget.

Behringer UB1832FX-PRO = 163.33
BEHRINGER AUTOCOM PRO XL MDX1600 = 74.85
BEHRINGER ULTRAGRAPH PRO FBQ1502 = 74.62
BEHRINGER POWERPLAY PRO XL HA4700 = 80.49
NUMARK HEADPHONES HF125 x 4 = 35.96
GEMINI PM-100 MONITOR SPEAKERS PAIR = 33.49

462.74 in total (not including cables)

As far as monitors and headphones go, I'm not really looking to spent vast amounts and get passive speakers that can pump out everything I'll ever need and I don't really want to spend anymore than I have on the headphones.

Anything I drastically need, for the sake of fun, let's assume that cables brings it up to 500. Which gives me around about 100 to play with.

I'll need another basic boom stand, which brings it up another 11 pounds.
So about 89 left.
I could do with a new condenser, so I'll probably go for a superlux CMH8A.

So this is all to go with my current 4 track, preamp, drum mics and back electret (a t-bone sc300)

Anything I missed that I drastically need?
I'm going to start using this equipment for getting demos down of the bands new stuff, so enhancers and effect units aren't really on my list of things to give a **** about at the moment.

If I need to expand my number of tracks from the 4 tracks 4. I'll fill my lot on the 4 track and start sending any tracks that I can to the minidisc or send recordings straight to the minidisc and re-unite them back on audacity.

Tah Brahs.

Thinking about it, maybe a nice pre-amp for vocals, just a behringer one maybe? The T1953 (i think) is about £85, and then on www.gak.co.uk the MIC2200 is about £60 i think.. Could be nice to have a 2 channel tube mic pre just for vocal purposes, and maybe running the whole mix through when mastering? Just a thought:)

[Edit]

Powerplay pro - pffft...

Yeah i think i read that in another thread somewhere, though its only 1 channel, so maybe another so you can use it on the final mix?

Does anyone remember 'gak', that gooey crap that made fart noises when you squeezed it?

Good times.

Tah brah I just took all these from my studio spares catalogue, I forgot about shopping around.

As for the preamp, I've got a behringer MIC200, but thanks for alerting me to needing two channels! I'll have a back electret and a condenser that will need powering for overheard work so I'll have to budget that in (hopefully with the money I save from Gak :p)

Unfortunately, the mini series is not out yet :(

Heh yeah but for maybe the headphone amp you could wait for if its not *that* important, because you'd end up saving a good amount on that. As for the EQ and Compressor, id probably go for the ones you mentioned. As a maybe, you could think about a patchbay if you think you would benefit from it..probably mainly when mixing down and putting the processors on the main buss rather than in channel inserts - just an idea though.

moaner, i'm guessing a stereo expander widens the stereo image?? Btw how does it do that, because the sound stage can't physically get any wider.

BEHRINGER POWERPLAY PRO XL HA4700 = 80.49

I was thinking of picking up a pair of these. Be sure to post what you think of this unit. They seem really flexible for monitoring, but online information can be misleading, and I've never used one.
