okay so my friend gave me a free SHARP MD-SR70 minidisc player/recorder, 'cause he knows I have a home studio and might need it.This is the first time I have had anything to do with minidisc, but I'm not gonna ask all the n00b questions, but rather,

Is better to use the mic in or line in when recording from my mixer tape outs?

Does anyone know anything about this model and any cool things useful to recording with it?

Is there a danger of overloading the input and busting it, and is keeping the output levels from the mixer low, enough to prevent this?

Does anyone else record with minidisc and have any tips/suggestions? I think I saw the k say somewhere that he used minidisc at times.

It's gonna be baptised by going to a friends house and miking up his drums.

tape outs are line level.

I'd say you're best using the line in on the minidisc from the mixer tape outs.

I'm not familiar with the model but if it has a mic input it mostly likely has a level setting option when recording, if you keep it from going to high you'll be fine. Just check your manual or an online manual, (there is a minidisc website, minidisc.org or something that has nearly every single minidisc model in detail) for how the input is measured so you know what's too much. I know people who have broken their minidiscs by going from their mixer, but on the other hand I've put things from my 4 track onto it with no trouble at all.

My tips/suggestions.
1. The sony electret mics you can buy for them are really pretty good.
2. Plug your headphones into the mic input for a lo-fi microphone.

i downloaded the manual, the input control and everything is there. im getting the hang of this thing. i have a tieclip mic somewhere than never worked with my comp coz it was 'plug in power' but now works with this. great!

one problem though, in stereo mode it only records track L (from my mixer) and in mono mode it sums both channels and sends a mono mix to both sides.
