System Of A Down’s newest video, “Question!,” will exclusively premiere simultaneously on both systemofadown.com and MTV.com on August 5 at 10am EDT/7am PDT.
From systemofadown.com
I haven't seen the vid yet but will in 2 days.
You can download it here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=42GRN8P8
But be warned the file size is stupidly big

Meh I reckon that Cigaro would be the perfect single if it had more... radio friendly lyrics. Maybe if they changed the lyrics and made it comical for the people who owned the album "My ____ is much bigger than yours".

hey... nobody said that "cok" (i know its misspelled ok?) is another meaning for ur cok... y cant it just mean rooster. so i would say keep the "cok", if not then rooster is fine. "My rooster is much bigger than yours", and it would still keep its message out there lol.

Who knows what amp(s) Daron was using when he recorded Mesmerize? All the websites I'm finding at the moment are way out of date.
And did he actually use a Mode 4 to record anything, or was it just a live amp? I've fallen in love with his tone on everything after S/T, so i'm intrigued.

Well, I hate to dig into one of your favorite bands, but "I wanna penetrate you...I wanna **** you like an animal" is also fairly laughable, but I know that Trent is a good lyricist because I've heard a few other songs. Listen to more of their stuff, and it becomes evident that they dont suck as bad as BYOB's lyrics. Granted, they aren't the most descriptive, but Serj is a better lyrical talent than most of the mainstream rockers out there.

I've noticed that Serj is far better lyrically than Daron. Didn't Daron write a lot of the crappy lyrics on the new album?
EDIT: By the way, I used to be a huge fan of Toxicity and their S/T, so I have heard most of their material.

People are under the misconception that Daron wrote most of the lyrics on Mezmerize, when really, he's always written bits and peices of their songs. Typically, Daron says that he writes the chorus, and Serj writes the verses and everything. But yes, Daron did do more lyrics, and the results aren't as satisfying.

I thought it was one of the better lines on the album. Couldn't have been worse than, "Everybody ****s...Everybody sucks," or "My **** is much bigger than yours."
In general their lines have no meaning and are completely random, having nothing to do with the lines before. And some of their lyrics are just childish.

I kind of get borderline pissed when someone singles out a lyric and talks down a band's lyrics, because as a whole, System actually do have quite a group of better lyrics. Every band, no matter who you're talking about, will have a song or just a line of crappy lyrics. Take Tool for example; "If I'm the man and your the man and he's the man as well, then you should point the 'f'in finger up your aaaass" (Or something like that) That's crap, and of course someone could say that Maynard is a sucky writer, but then I'd bust out my theory on The Grudge, and Saturn, and all this other stuff, just to make that person cry. :)

The best SOAD lyrics were the straight-forward, well thought-out lyrics of Prison Song. Sure, it may sound like a joke; but in the song they have an argument and literally back it up with statistics. Plus, they have this uncanny way of making the lyrics memorable. I've heard people who are ignorant to politics yell things like "...while abolishing mandatory minimum sentences!"

Yeah sometimes I dislike really obvious in your face lyrics (one of the reasons I have gone off RATM) but I think they work in the prison song. Sometimes you have to sing witout dodging round the subject with metaphors and other such techniques.
I like the lyrics to ATWA, Deer Dance and CUBErt

I like how they do the metaphoric lyrics. I feel the song more that way, cuz not a lot of people get the songs message. When you do, then it means that you are really into the song, band, and the message behing the song. Like +zero+ said, it makes us look at the song differently and with more respect. I hope Serj writes Hypnotize's lyrics though, i just like his way of thinking.

System of a Down has awesome lyrics. They are sort of like Tool in that a lot of the words have underlying meanings. I like how they mixed up the vocals more on mesmerize with daron singing more, but hopefully its a one time thing. I'd guess that every SOAD fan agrees that mesmerize was a weak album compared to their previous releases (including Steal this Album), but is still decent. Question! is an awesome song. By the way System of a Down switched the release of mesmerize with Hypnotize because they all thought hypnotize was a far stronger album and they wanted to save the best for last. Either Serj or Daron said in Rolling Stone that mesmerize was only a preview of hypnotize.

"I want to **** my way to the garden"
The "garden" could be a certain goal of an individual. "****" could mean the work that has to be performed to get to a goal. He wants to get somewhere or somthing, particularly what the goal is.
"Because everyone needs a mother****er"
Here, I think he's stating that someone messed somthing up for him and that's why he needs to work towards that goal and get to where he once was.
It'd be alot more accurate if the whole song was analyzed. Is anyone up for analyzations?

Launch Radio Networks reports: System Of A Down is reportedly eyeing November 15 as the release date for "Hypnotize", the companion album to the band's first album of 2005, "Mezmerize". Both discs were recorded at the same time, and guitarist Daron Malakian told Launch that he doesn't think they're all that different. "I'm so inside of it that maybe that's a little tough for me to tell, but I don't see too big of a difference," he said. "I see them both as one record, you know? Not to compare us to, like, The Beathles, but the only thing I can compare it to is, like, you listen to the 'White Album' and it's a double album, but, like, they're just a bunch of great songs."
The release date for "Hypnotize" has not been officially confirmed yet. "Mezmerize" was released on May 17 and has sold nearly 1.3 million copies in the U.S.
Daron Malakian recently told MTV.com that "Hypnotize" will feature System Of A Down's first instrumental, called "Hezze". Malakian said, "I just think it's cool to have an instrumental. Not enough people put instrumentals on their albums anymore." The track is influenced by Middle Eastern music, but also features rock and disco elements.
Malakian also said that the band's next single would probably be the title track from "Hypnotize".
Meanwhile, System singer Serj Tankian recently remixed a track by late rapper Notorious B.I.G., called "Who Shot Ya", for an upcoming and unspecified video game.

I'm Interested to hear the full version of Soldier Side, Heeze sounds cool, and I'm hoping that Vicinity is as good as they say it is. I'm hoping it will be alot better than Mezmerize.
I doubt that it will come out in September because they would have said something by now.
Heres more info on each song:
Kill Rock ‘N’ Roll – Played Live, About a rabbit Daron killed in his car
Holy Mountain – Played live, About 2 mountains in armeania (sp?)
Attack – “Starts with a thrash riff and explodes into yet another hugely melodic verse. 'We attack, attack, attack!' screams Serj Tankian. 'Attack all the homes and villages/Attack all the schools and hospitals.'” – Kerrang!
“‘Attack’ is first-pumping, Iron Maiden-style power metal” – Revolver
Vicinity (of Obscenity) – “Proof that they haven't lost their love of the quirky, here SOAD sing about 'terracotta pie' amid other, nonsensical lyrics. Throwing their complete bag of tricks into one song, 'Vicinity of Obscenity' is the band's very own bad acid trip put to music.” – Kerrang!
“‘Vicinity’ contains impenetrable lyrics like ‘Banana, banana, banana, terracotta/ banana, terracotta, terracotta pie’” – Kerrang!
“‘Vicinity of Obscenity,’ an irrepressibly screwy homage to Frank Zappa that dishes out absurd lyrics like ‘Feel the sweet / Beat the meat.’” – Mean Street
“‘Vicinity,’ which mixes a party-hearty Seventies disco groove with schizoid tempo shifts and brain-frying guitar feedback” – Revolver
"Probably the craziest song I've ever written." - Serj
Hypnotize – “Malakian and Tankian trade vocal lines over an Indian-tinged riff, followed by a head nodding groove over which the guitarist reveals he's 'just sitting in my car and waiting for my girl'.” – Kerrang!
“‘Hypnotize’ finds Serj and Daron harmonizing on the same line (‘I’m just sitting in my car / Waiting for my girl’)” – Mean Street
“Malakian's piercingly high vocals on the stomping ‘Hypnotize’ would make Rob Halford doff his leather cap in appreciation” – Revolver
“The song ‘Hypnotize,’ Malakian says, was inspired by his frustration with those who would rather blindly follow their leaders than think for themselves, as well as the propaganda-spouting pundits who reinforce their behavior.” - Revolver
"'They disguise it, hypnotize it/ Television made you buy it,' Malakian sings in the opening verse. 'Mesmerize the simple-minded/ Propaganda leaves us blinded,' he sings later." - mtv.com
Lonely Day – “A mino-key rock ballad built around Malakian's plaintive pledge of ‘And if you go/I want to go with you/And if you die/I want to die with you’ and capped with dizzying guitar solo, ‘Lonely Day’ sounds a little like Green Day would if Billie Joe Armstrong had grown up on a steady diet of late-Seventies Scorpions and UFO recording” - Revolver
Hezze - "The second half of System of a Down's Mezmerize/Hypnotize will feature the band's first instrumental" - mtv.com
"The 4-minute track is based on Middle-Eastern music but also includes rock and disco elements" - mtv.com
Soldier Side - According to Serj in a recent interview, Soldier Side will be the final track on Hypnotize.
Tentative– Played Live, Mellow chorus with Serj and Daron harmonizing on the line 'Where do you expect us to go when the bombs fall?'

Why are everyone complaining on the length of Mezmerize?? I think you should be very happy abouth the length. Remember: Mezmerize/Hypnotize is 1 cd. They just kinda cut it in two. So Hypnotize will probably be about the same length as Mezmerize.
All there albums arnt much longer anyway, I think there longest is something like 45 minuites

Has anyone gone to soadfans.com and read the concert reviews? I'm sorry but everyone reviewing are complete idiots. How fanboy/girl can you get. I get that it IS mainly a SOAD concert, but they dismiss The Mars Volta and Bad Acid Trip as some talentless, boring bands that have nothing to offer. I can imagine all the SOAD fans being completely disrespectful to that kind of music, kind of like Tool fans to Meshuggah. It just really pisses me off that no one addresses it on the site too. I can understand since its a fan site, but at least show some respect.

What do you think reviews at thecomatorium.com are like? Face it, these two bands are both highly bizarre and completely insane, and their fanbases reflect that. Not to mention that neither one of them has a good reputation for live performances, so you're getting two completely opposite opinions from each band's hardcore fans.

You have a lot to learn, Tool boy.
1) These articles aren't typed out on the forums, they're part of the main website. You get paid for writing for the website.
2) It's a joke, and Tool fans are often the most vocal defenders of their favorite band, so doing an article on them is a natural thing. It proves that people who attach their egos to bands and get offended at their being insulted are ridiculous.
3) IT'S A JOKE. David Thorpe doesn't hate EVERY band he makes fun of; that's why it's so fun to read them. "Doctor" David Thorpe is more of a persona who himself is a mockery of music journalists who think they know everything and can objectively say which bands are "bad."

SYSTEM OF A DOWN SET TO RELEASE HYPNOTIZE NOVEMBER 22 ON CD AND DUALDISC
Six months after System of a Down's Mezmerize debuted at number one on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart, the uncompromising and outspoken quartet returns with Hypnotize, part two of a promised two-album set. American Recordings/Columbia will release two versions of Hypnotize, the band's fifth studio album, on November 22.
Both the CD and DualDisc versions feature 12 new songs as well as artwork by Vartan Malakian, father of SOAD's guitarist/singer Daron. The packaging for Hypnotize is specially designed to physically join Mezmerize and Hypnotize together, forming one unified product with continuous artwork. Additionally, the DualDisc edition will contain exclusive behind-the-scenes footage showing the making of both records.
More importantly, the albums interlock musically. The final track on Hypnotize, "Soldier Side" completes "Soldier Side Intro," which appears as the opening track on Mezmerize.
HYPNOTIZE Track Listing
1. "Attack"
2. "Dreaming"
3. "Kill Rock 'n Roll"
4. "Hypnotize"
5. "Stealing Society"
6. "Tentative"

8. "Holy Mountains"
9. "Vicinity of Obscenity"

12. "Soldier Side"

It would have been smarter for System of a down to have made Soldier Side (Outro) on Mezmerize and then on Hypnotize make the first track Soldier Side. That would have made the albums connect better.

It would have been smarter for System of a down to have made Soldier Side (Outro) on Mezmerize and then on Hypnotize make the first track Soldier Side. That would have made the albums connect better.
It would of made more sense for them to do that. Unless this is what they are going for, the 'out of the box thinking'.

No i understand what they are doing.
Soldier Side (Intro) is like the beginning of the Mezmerize/Hypnotize collaboration and Soldier Side is the end of the collaboration.
Took me a while. :upset:

November 22nd. But im not sure if that is the UK or US release. As the UK is a day before the US date.
The 22nd is a Tuesday so thats probably the US release date as UK albums are released on a Monday, So more than likely UK release is the 21st of November :thumb:

Does anyone know how the The Mars Volta's set is?
I'm seeing them monday. :D
Mars Volta are apprently really awful live (well from what I've heard from show reviews of the supporting SOAD)

I wouldn't go to see them anyways. SOAD > TMV :D

That makes no sense, Omar and Cedric were so good live for ATDI. I still reckon they'd be awesome live. :D

I think it depends on which band you like more, as you'll be inclined to enjoy the show by the band whose songs you know and can sing along to. SOAD used to be really bad at their live shows, but I can tell they've improved for this tour. Same thing with The Mars Volta, who everyone hated when they were opening for RHCP, but they eventually worked it out.
The reason people don't like TMV live NOW is because they extend their songs into jam sessions. Bring a pillow if that's not your thing!

09-23-2005, 06:34 PM
well some of their lyrics r kool. but 4 them to b on tour w/ soad is kinda weird, cuz they have nothing in common. like i would understand if its like NIN or KoRn or something
Dr. Jake Destructo
09-23-2005, 07:16 PM
NIN would make sense, since both bands recently released albums. With that said, from what I've seen, a ton of NIN fans despise SOAD. This would kind of defeat the purpose of the two bands touring together.
To me, a SOAD/Audioslave tour would have been most probable, as both Serj and Tom Morello(of Audioslave) are key players in the Axis of Justice organization, and both bands released albums around the same time. The only problem with this is that both bands are widely mainstream, so there could be dispute as to which band would open for whom, etc... With SOAD and TMV, it's quite obvious who the headliner is.

Good point. My friends went to see the show here last night and said both bands were great, so about the TMV thing, I doubt thats true.

What about slipknot and soad tour? Haha, that would be pretty weird. But then again, both bands are pretty big and who opens for who would be pretty tough to decide. Or soad and metallica. Man, that would be a great tour. C'mon metallica, release the **** album already.

when is metallica gonna release an album? i miss them. now slipknot and soad, too weird. theyre totally different. but ummm yeah NIN would b great with them. and who would open? no idea! but yeah, TMV just wasnt a good idea in my opinion... i mean theyre ok, but soad touring material. like whoever goes to the concert, will b to see SOAD and not TMV

Slipknot would probably open, as they only really acheived real mainstream success with Duality last year. SOAD is probably a lot more famous around the world, so Slipknot would probably open for SOAD.

I'm doing this here because I'll probably forget to tell you when I next see you, but you need to give me the money for the SOAD tickets as soon as you can. Also, I looked at the piece of paper my dad got emailed because of the ticket theft or misplacement, and I guess we have seating instead of ground tickets. I guess the day made a big difference, and we may have to go through gloating from Kyle. (I think it's Row H, section 116)

Slipknot and SOAD were both on Ozzfest in '99 I think. Pretty sure that Slipknot had the bigger draw because they are angrier and know how to work the crowd with their frantic moshing on stage.
I still prefer SOAD, but the live show for Slipknot would be pretty intense.
System of a down is a great band..

It is^^. Is saw them opening for Metallica, together with KoRn.
They had like two guys with masks and stuff just walking and jumping around the stage and over the amplifiers, just next to the audience. Sick shít. Too bad the music was pretty shítty compared to both Korn and Metallica.

My cousin(who could be completely full of crap and/or just plain dumb) told me that at their live shows, they throw puke and dog **** on the crowd. That would be intense, yet, obviously a bit gross. :p

haha, well all i know is that i guess depending on the show, its how it will turn out. like Korn and Metallica, are both awesome bands, and they have more to offer to an audience than SOAD lyricwise and musicwise as well. but that still doesnt mean that SOAD sux cuz they dont. its just that in my opinion the audience would feel korns and metallicas song more and theyll go crazier

I'd definetely see soad over korn. Im not a fan of korn. But metallica on the other hand, well of course I'd see metallica more than almost any other band.

System and Slipknot toured in November 2001, I think, and I believe System opened.
A Hypnotize bootleg will probably come out in a couple of days, cuz they have played it at 4 shows now, and I hope at least 1 person out of 100000 brought a recorder. Its wierd, all the recent shows has been posted at sites, except the ones where they played Hypnotize...
