Yup, brixton. The Mars Volta eh? Think I'll download more of their stuff before going then. Lol we could meet up somewhere, nowt much to do while queueing anyway. I'm probably aiming to get there early, wanna get places vaguely near the front.

I dont think there is an "exact" date set yet.
It comes out roughly 6 months after mezmerize.

So around november time :thumb:

What exactly is everyones problem with mezmerize?

Darons always written alot of the basslines and he has always done backing vocals the only thing he's done differnet is sung lead on a few of the songs..

It seems like a fine length to me. They made it so well because they made sure that everything in this album was key. I honestly think that this album is going to be the album of the year.

Oh yeah, Hypnotize might beat it. System of a Down will be getting a Grammy this year. If they don't, that's messed up.

I honestly did not like this album.

Sure, it had its fair share of decent songs...BYOB, Sad Statue, Revenga, Radio/Video...but the majority of the songs sounded like filler IMO. And i liked before when Daron didn't sing as much...i can't stand his voice. Serj is the better singer.

I hope Hypnotize is better than this...even though System is a decent band, i think they're starting to show signs of age...

Well it's only about a 30 minute album...it only feels a lot shorter. It really isn't a bad album, just zips by.

I completely agree that Hypnotize should probably be better. But that's not saying Mezmerize was bad.

i didnt like question the first couple times i listened to it.. then i caught on to liking it, and i actually like the whole cd, yes its different, but what.. do you expect soad to just stay the same forever? everyone changes their styles.. its a part of creating music. if it was all the same then itd get old fast.. and i dont see whats wrong with darons voice.. i can understand that his lyrics kinda suck but hey serj should keep singing and write lyrics and daron should keep singing and not write lyrics.. sounds fair

this is my sytem of a down story:

6 months ago i didn't like system of a down but all my friends did so i got familiar with quite a lot of their material. The tickets for Brixton Academy gig in london then came out and my friends got them but i insisted i didn't want to go.
As soon as a week later i was beginning to regret this, not only the feeling of missing out on a gig but i found myself enjoying some of the songs which i had always hated (chop suey, aerials e.t.c). The next thing to happen which changed my whole outlook on system of a down was my friend to put 'steal this album' on his hi-fi. I realise its not a 'proper album' but this was on of the best things i had heard in so long and songs like Mr Jack and Boom became some of my favorite songs. This of course encouraged me to buy 'steal this album' and then the first album and mesmerize.

Of course by this point I was seriously regretting not buying tickets to the gig. So i had to watch my friends travel off to london without me!

....BUT! 3 hours before the gig i get a call from my mate asking me to travel down to london because somebody hadnt turned up....they had a spare ticket! So i had to rush, caught the last train and made it to the gig. One of the best gigs i've ever been to, they played an amazing set including the first ever live play of 'sad statue'.:D

Good live band. Saw them twice this year and I was impressed. (Although my main reason for being there was the supporting act :D )

They seemed really tight live, and even the crazy vox were bang on. Got to hear a bunch of the new songs way before the album which was sweet. But the best part was when they played my 2 favourite songs back to back Roulette and Prison song.

Mezmerise definately isn't my favourite album of theres but a good disc all the same.

I love the new song and video. I will go check out the new album.
The new album is way too soft, i mean BYOB has a F****n' pop chorus. Their distortion has gone too scratchy and not hard and thick enough. Alot of songs are really soft. Cigaro is the only good song on Mezmerize. Their previous albums were way way better.

Hmmm it's good to see this thread doing something for the Cover Competition. I thought chop suey was about chinese food, but then it ended up being about government ties and complications.

Yes it is, it is about a celebrity basketball game that Daron was involved with I think. It probably has a deeper meaning though which I am not aware of.

I really think 'Lost in Hollywood' was a dodgy choice for a second single. I wonder what people who are casual radio fans will think of Daron's lead vocals. It's the mellowest song they would've ever done I'm pretty sure (no distortion what-so-ever). It's just so different to the rest. But I really dig the bit when Daron says ''Phony people come to play''. Him and Serj's harmonies go so well. Maybe not on a Staley/Cantrell standard, but it's getting there.

I think I'm pretty much alone on this, but I absolutely hated Mezmerize. I just thought it was very bland and generic. Nothing stood out about it to me. I wasn't really suspecting the technicality of it to be out of this world, or anything. I love their previous releases. I thought this record was just sooooooo boring. I want to sell it, but I can't find anybody who wants it.

Some black metal fans have noticed what seems like a tribute to Emperor in the bridge of Revenga - a riff very similar to that from I Am the Black Wizards off of Nightside...yes? No? Who knows? My favorite System is still from their Bugzapper demo tape. I loved that tape.

I didn't like lost in hollywood much. That "Tony Danzda cuts in line" is pretty whiny and cheesy. Old school hollywood is better although songs are totally different so comparison is stupid. Anyone else think radio/video bits of greeky guitar type sound similar? I could swear I heard it already. Might be my crazy imagination though.

It's officially happened. Everyone at my school loves BYOB. Discovering it months after its release. Just hearing them say ''You heard that new Systems of the down song everybody goin to the party have a real good time? SOOOO COOL!'' makes me jeer. But at least they like it. That chorus ALWAYS gets me going.

I hate hoe people catch on to songs, MONTHS after they've been out. It seems that I always notice the new trend, before everybody else.

You've got "Old School Hollywood" and "Lost in Hollywood" mixed up. The first one is the one about Tony Danza cutting in line, and the other one is the album's last track that's very mellow and ballad-like.

Also, anyone who thinks SOAD is just getting popular now must not remember the Chop Suey! phase of their career very well

Yeh either that or you have decent taste in music, therefore not relying on radio or MTV to give their approval, like the teeny boppers atyour school.

Or thats just me.....

But yeh that annoys me aswell....

It's only been out for one month and ten days, and since it's on the radio, MTV, and even a performance on Saturday Night Live, what's so surprising that people at school have heard them? They heard "Spiders" and "Sugar" in 1998 and "Chop Suey!" and "Aerials" in 2001, so what's the big deal?

System of a Down is popular!

The demo had more death metal type versions of Soil, War?, and Peep-Hole. Serjs grunts were more like Suffocation/Opeth style and the production sounded deeper/grittier. I actually liked the versions on that demo MUCH more than the albums versions. Sadly, I have since lost my tape and have been unable to track down another copy or even proof that anyone outside of my area had them!

I reccomend the first album to anyone who doesn't have it. I find it much more 'pure', not some watered down crap.

/cant explain

yes ::100% agree:: The self titled rocks, and they seem not very afraid to mention whatever they want in there. The other albums are good, but I think that they've weeded out their original more political sense. Suggestions and pluck, I believe are by far their best songs.

Have we decided on what songs where doing? We really need to enter ourselfs in the offical thread thats all..

And to the above few posts, I have all 4 (not 3, 4!) and there not what I'd describe as death metal, sure there different to the albums but nothign like death metal.

Toxicity is probably the most accesible, so would be good for a first album. however The self titled album is extremely good, as with their other albums, and Steal this album. You cant really go wrong in my eyes.
