Honestly, Mezmerize is **** compared to Hypnotize. They both aren't the best, Hypnotize just sucked less. I think they should have just released one CD. It would have definately kicked ***.

i think they are equally good albums, but in the same way they are both equally lacking in Serj's vocals.

Both albums were terrible.
SOAD as I've said many times is rather talentless.
The only song I've ever liked was "Question!", that was a good song.

These days it's not about talent. Although most musicians prefer talent... anybody else just goes with what appeals to them. Which is I guess how it should be. I like SOAD, but I like all that style of music so yeah...
The current mainstream music is proof that you don't need much talent to be successful.
And Question! is a good song init?

In your opinion. and as for that, i don't know what the hell influenced it. Serj has unique vocal skills, the drumming certainly is not "talentless", and they guitar/bass owns. some of their riffs are incredible. [IMO] to say SOAD are talentless is mad, for me. especially when you have people like Prodigy making even more money from pressing a few buttons.

John's facial expressions are famous for being constantly foreboding and angry-looking, which together with his usual smart dress sense, make him look like a Russian Mafia member. Lead singer Serj Tankian was quoted in Kerrang magazine as always trying to make John crack a smile on stage, to which John replied that he had to make an extreme effort to keep a straight face and not get put off beat, which is sometimes not believed due to the fact that John is very rhythmically sound when it comes to his drum beats.
One night, when John was five years old, he woke up in the middle of the night and went to his parent's room out of fright. His parents allowed him to sleep in their bed, and soon after a bullet came through the window of John's room and hit his bed, where he would have been sleeping.

No he can't do much better, he's not that good.
He's like lars of metallica, for system of a down. A manager type who plays in a band just because it's his band and he wants to fill that position. :smoke:
So you're saying you listen to music because no one knows about it and if they get big you stop listening because they gain more younger fans, and all of a sudden, because of their younger audience, even their old music that you loved starts sucking?
no. i did like them when i was younger, but i didn't stop liking them when they became big. i stopped listening to them way before that happened. i got into punk for a bout a year and a half and then got into metal.
what i meant was that most of the bands that i listened to when i was younger are bands that are now big and my friends never heard of them before. thats all i said.

Sup gice. Only got Hypnotize a week or so ago. Enjoying it immensely. I must say, Attack is quite good. It ties in well with the whole BYOB "battlefield" effect, and the intro's great for theatrical stage antics - I'd like to see them playing it live. With a little more personality than they usually show. I also like Holy Mountains a lot, sweet harmonies. Lonely Day is a cute little emo anthem, it's so funny (and quite ironic) to hear Daron singing that kind of thing, especially considering his band's oft-political stance. And Soldier Side... what an epic.
Someone in this thread posted something a while ago about how you can link Mezmerize and Hypnotize's tracks together into one long playlist where each song flows into the next. Is this true?

CHRIST WHEN WILL PEOPLE STOP GOING ON ABOUT DARON think of it from an artistic point of view. Music is an art, amirite? OK. Thus each song is an artwork. Now look at System's typical lyrical material. For one, they're often immensely sarcastic in bringing their points across. Also, they loooove poking fun at pop culture. Pop-punk bands such as Blink-182 sadly form(ed) a part of pop culture. Thus this kind of music (pop-punk) becomes a metaphor for pop culture. From an artistic point of view, what's a good way to sarcastically poke fun at a music genre?
Imitate it.
Listen to Lonely Day's lyrics. It's a beautiful example of how Daron is (remember this is all IMHO) jabbing a stick at "dark" pop-punk bands like Good Charlotte. It would sound so **** if Serj tried to sing that. In fact, it'd sound like he's being serious. However, Daron's decidedly teenage voice makes it funny. From an artistic point of view, excellent sarcastic irony and use of timbres.
***
Anyway, the whole combined playlist thing: I don't mean the songs should flow into each other, but I mean like one song ends in the same key as the next starts in, or one's outro forms the musical basis for the next song, that kind of thing. I might go browse the thread and see if I can find that list.

If they're poking fun at a genre, they obviously don't enjoy it, so why would the promote a song they don't like?

I'm not saying they did the song to make fun of pop punk, but that doesn't mean they don't like a song if it's true. It's their song, and obviously they thought it was good enough to be on the record.
obviously they thought it was good enough to be on the record.
The band didnt want it on the album.
Its only on the album because Rick Rubin told them too put it on.

Not necessarily, man. If they wrote it and they play it, then obviously they either (a) enjoy it or (b) find it funny. In either case it's enough motivation to keep playing it so they can poke fun at the aforementioned bands.
Just as an example, I hate listening to punk but, like any other music genre, plauying it has its perks. Like the fact that you can strum excessively hard and bounce around. That's why I played bass for my friend's punk band a year or so ago. I hated listening to the music, but it was fun to play.

I can't see why people like Mezmerize so much...
First of all, B.Y.O.B is on there. And Violent Pr0nography. I can't stand those songs^^
I think the lyrics are too repetitive, and they're pretty bad too, compared to the more Serj-ish lyrics on Hypnotize.
On Hypnotize, you have Attack, Dreaming, Tentative, U-Fig, Holy Mountains, Vicinity of Obcenity, and Soldier Side, and those are awesome songs, imo. The others are good too, but not THAT good.
The only songs that stand out to me on Mezmerize are Revenga, This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song, and Question!.
I've kinda grown off the rest... And that's a shame, because I used to love them. But now I find them boring. I've been listening to Hypnotize a lot, and I simply don't get sick of it.

I think that soad should use more of their death metal screams like they did in S/t.
I think Daron should also shut up; his whiney, nasily voice (mainly off hypnotize) annoys the crap out of me (btw Im a big SOAD fan; own all their albums)

I reccomend the first album to anyone who doesn't have it. I find it much more 'pure', not some watered down crap.
/cant explain
Agreed, I love that album, every album succesively seems to get a little worse.

Maybe someone will be nice enough to answer your question if you would take the time to use correct grammer and spelling.

Old School Hollywood is a cool song even if it is cheesy with the robot voice.

It was a big letdown for me, Steal this album and toxicity ruled. This..No

They never made a song i didnt like. If there was one song i had to pick tho i'd say it was Old School Hollywood.

I'm sick and tired of people dissing Daron's singing. From an artistic point of view it fits perfectly in the band's lyrical context. Let's just say it's bad on purpose. And you can't deny his voice harmonises very well with Serj's.
Search a couple or 20 pages back if you want to read what I have to say about him. (Tip: search the thread for "Blink 182".)

Serj is just so much cooler in all aspects.

Nah, I like them equally. I love Serj's almost operatic style of singing, and I love Daron's more whiny stuff like the "my c0ck" line.
Anyway, like I said before, whether you like his voice or not, artistically, they couldn't have asked for a better secondary singer.

Daron sounds just like most other pop punk singers. Nothing unique about him. Serj on the other hand is quite unique, and has a pretty cool growl that he uses sometimes.
But yea, their vocals aren't even comparable. Soad without Serj would suck.
Grumma

Im pretty sure that growl is Daron; Serj's growl is more akin to yelling rather than any singing technique/style

I like the metro...its just a really cool song. Going back to the lyrical thing, darons voice sucks. He sounds like he has a pole shoved up his behind. Serj's voice rocks though, goes with there style of music.

Nuff said.

Nope, it's Daron who does the growl. Saw a live video when they were playing "Atwa" once. The growler was Daron.
Yes, LIVE being the key word.
Daron adds in growls etc live but on the albums its almost always Serj

No it's Daron
aka start of prison song aka start of cigaro aka the chorus of atwa.
Do you wish me to continue?

I've tried fighting this fight. I've never won.
I think Cigaro is all Serj, Though it could be Daron at first then Serj backs up with a higher scream at 12 seconds
The start of Prison Song is so obviously Serj, You can hear that its Serjs voice, Also Daron cant growl that low.
However, Daron growls on the "Research on sucessful drug..." part, He also does the "For you and me" and other parts but that is clearly Daron anyway..
Likewise, The chorus of ATWA is so obviously Daron.
Its clearly his voice.
I cant believe you people cant tell the difference between there voices...

Meaning...?
Which one of those songs do you believe I got it wrong?
Ok well.. ATWA.. lets see.. serj does na na's, sings the first two sentences, then Daron comes in. They do it again.. then 'you dont care about how i feel' is Serj, not Daron. Then they do 'na na na' together. Serj sings again for 2, Daron joins him, and then repeat. Chorus again, it's Serj screaming. The 'i dont sleeep' is Serj, then Shavo does the 'ANYMOOOOORE'. Daron's not anywhere near there so whichever one you were referring to as a chorus, Daron isn't in it.
In Cigaro, I assume you're talking about the growls, in which case you're probably right but obviously Daron sings a lot of that song normally.
I wasnt saying the whole song is Daron, I was refering to the growl in the chorus.
The "Anymore!" part is Daron.
The parts where they are just singing, Is obvious whos who (As you said above).
Shavo doesnt sing on any album song as far as I remember (Maybe bounce..) but he does some grunts live now and again.

Yeah sorry when I first read your post I thought you were referring to the whole songs.. but I still think 'Anymore!' is Shavo because Daron's voice doesn't really go that deep tbh

Obviously some have their reasons otherwise they wouldnt be arguing :p
And whoever said Shavo only does screams live is right.
Daron can go that low when he screams/growl whatever.
By the sounds of it his nasily voice is about as high as he can go without really losing pitch
Yeah, Daron can go quite low, but his vocals on Lonely Day are about as high as he can go.
