I'd like to get this cleared up once and for all, MX. If we submit reviews to Sputnik, do they become your property? Are we allowed to resubmit them at other places? If you do have some sort of copyright policy, can you please link me to it, as I haven't been able to find it.

Thanks.

Thats an interesting thought. Id have thought that they'd be your intellectual property and as such you were able to post them anywhere.

There's no such thing as intellectual property when it comes to copyrights. If you write a review for Sputnik, it's technically never your legal property in terms of creative control without either an unopened postmarked envelope containing said writing (a musician trick for copyrighting music) or an official copyright. When you submit your review to Sputnik, you're not perfoming any sort of legal cross over because whatever Jeremy does with it is his own business at that point. Unless he has copyrights over absolutely everything on the site, which I doubt, anyone can take the reviews from Sputnik as well and use them as they please.

MX is in massive breach of copyright anyhow, it's purely a matter of how much the publishers think they need mxtabs down.
^
Not that I agree with publishers shutting down tab sites, I'm just saying Jeremy ignored my warnings and legal examples.

OK that's what I was hoping, but I'd like to see a response from MX himself just to clarify, because I've still yet to receive an answer from him.

Seriously. He's addressed basically every issue but this one.

wtf? First of all, that accusation is ridiculous. Second, I simply did not see this thread. Of course they don't become my property, they are yours.

Of course

of course? on other sites, they don't, its not exactly a given.

Well, don't assume that I am a bad guy, and am 'stealing'. Some of the posts here were ridiculous.

I don't think it will take much work to add it to the FAQ section of Sputnik :)

HAHA I made a post in here calling bullplop on mx's post and he deleted it, then IP banned me.

You guys do realise he's just putting on a front, right? It even says on Sputnik music that all reviews are property of the MXTabs Network. That means he is the legal owner, and you are breaching copyright by having a copy of the review on your own harddisk after you have submitted unless you have written permission from Jeremy himself.

The law cited in the article is still the same.

Copyright 2004 Mxtabs Network

Do you mean this? If you think it states all you submit becomes property of mx, than all your posts here and on MXTabs get too, as the same sentence is stated at the bottom of the forums and MXTabs.net. That point is pointless. If you deem every copyright remark on any instance as a sign your property that you create using it becomes the property of the copyright holder, I would stop using any computer apps at all. That would mean that for example all stuff you write in MS Word becomes propery of Microsoft. After all, it states 'Copyright XXXX the Microsoft Corp.' when you start it

It has also been stated that the reviews stay your property. Why keep biatchin'?

No, but ask anyone who has studied law or the music industry, or call a publisher and ask their legal department and they will tell you that tabs are illegal without the permission of the artists publisher.
The reason for this being that if tabs didn't exist, the sale of mainstream music books for example, Blink 182 and Metallica would rocket, so effectively tabs are taking money away from that outlet.

I believe you, I was just wondering if there were any more recent cases.

edit: and as plex said, the law is still the same, so I guess it doesn't matter.

That is a tottally incorrect analogy. The compyright notice refers to the software. It explicity states that in the state up. something "Microsoft Word XP, Copyight blah blah."

The other major difference is that the review is being added to the sputnik site, not create to be printed off/saved locally. It's like when we post on this message board, our posts become part of musicianforums.com. We don't own our posts.

Also, you do realise that Jeremy has got in a sh[b][/bit with other sites for "stealing his tabs"? If they are the property of the author he had absolutely no right to complain to the site owner's.

mx
05-22-2005, 10:41 AM
I get upset about people 'stealing' tabs because they were submitted to this site, meaning that the users want them here. If they are submitted freely elsewhere, that's perfectly fine. But downloading my entire archive not only really clogs up the server and my bandwidth, but is taking people's tabs without their notice.

It wasn't meant to be that way. I'll have to look at the FAQ, etc

mx
05-22-2005, 10:56 AM
I am not out to get anyone, and I really have no idea why people would think I would. The copyright notice is updated, and the FAQ reflects that reviews are your property.

Plex, seriously, drop the ****ing act already. Jesus Christ. I promised myself i'd never really say anything, but seriously, you're a moron.

Your personal vendetta against Jeremy has gotten so ****ing retarded and so old that its not even worth it anymore. Why do you even try? Seriously, stop being a moron and drop it. All it shows now is that you're able to hold a grudge against the owner of a website. So you won, ok? You win. You've shown you're better than Jeremy. You win.

So all that is asked of you now, is to shut the **** up. Your useless banter is tiring.

Seriously just drop it, you'd be doing us all even yourself a favor, its just gotten old, stale and annoying.

Seriously, i'm not talking to you, so stay out of it. I don't think you know Johns past very well and i'm not here to educate you on his past. Go find out for yourself. :)

As for my "bitching," well, you're really the only one who has complained. Oh, and Captain Jack Sparrow and Plex. Wow. You guys are actually calling me a whiny bitch. Its funny how that works when CJS has been banned numerous times because of spamming attacks on this forum. Same with Plex. Ontop of that I haven't posted here in weeks, to "bitch" and my "good ideas" are actually generally supported by most users in the site forum except for John and CJS.

I suggest you take your vendetta against me somewhere else. :) Because I don't really give a ****. I think most users will agree with me that John is very annoying.

This is not the right spot to set personal disputes. As the initial point (copyright issues) has been taken care off, I'll close this. Sorry, you'll have to search for another arena. :)
