recording problems

I have an alesis multimix 12 usb mixer, a computer, recording software and a few mics

the usb is connected, the mixer is detected, usb audio device is set to default in control panel, the (main mix out) ports are connected to the soundcard, and my computer isn't getting anything from the mic.

What am i doing wrong?

isolate where the problem is. Before connecting your mixer to your computer, use headphones to check wether you are getting a signal from the mic and if it's loud enough. If you're not getting a signal, check all your levels, that phantom power if required is active, and that the microphone is properly connected and on.

Now connect your mixer (Preferably with the group or alt3/4 outs, not the main outs) to the computer. If the signal in the mixer is fine but isn't showing on the computer, check the recording volume, your settings and your connections.
