the chances of you actually making any money from this are slim.
i expect they'll ask you for $50 down, or stick the fact that they get the rights to your songs in the small print, or somehting like that.

heh. well you all might be right. but let me clarify. the user downloading has to pay the dollar (70 cents to artist, 10 to credit card company, 20 to bandspace) So the website company is not the ones paying you, anyone who wants to download your song is and just pays with paypal.

oh in that case it's probably true but noone will pay to download the music. In any case, only accept if the payments are made to your paypal or somehting. Don't give 'em any info at all.

having had a look at the website, it seems pretty reasnoble. don't give them any money, read every thing catrefully, and use your common sense. remember you're unlikely to make any money.

Pay to download music has actually been on a large increase lately.
Myself I don't see the appeal, but other people apparantly do. If you think people would like to buy your music then go for it. Make sure you read the small print carefully and look for things on mechanical copyright in it. Basicly make sure you're not giving them your mechanical copyright of your musical copyright.
I doubt it's a scam, on the face of it, 20cents is a small cut.
But if you consider that the theory is to have thousands of artists. If they have just 1000 downloads in a day, that's 20,000cents. I think that's $2,000 (I dunno your crazy money) if they built up a large number of acts, they could definately make a nice sum from it, especially if people began downloading entire albums.
So go for it if you want, just make sure you read the terms and conditions.

i guess with unsigned bands, the appeal for online downlaods is greater, since the CD is unlikely to be readily available.
