Yeh, they are great. A very weird type of humour; it probably wouldn't tickle everybody's fancy.

Have you seen 'The Meaning of Life'. That movie cracked me up from start to finish.
And yeh, 'self defence class' is hilarious.

yeah man, that movie was hilarious!

I agree, it's a type of humour not many would appreciate, very intelligent, yet absurd.

I love Monty Python. Stupid yet very intelligent humour, as you said. Unfortunately I haven't been able to see too many of the shows, and only two of the movies (Life of Brian and Holy Grail). Have you heard the skit Four Yorkshiremen? Absolutely hilarious.

I always liked, "The Lumberjack Song". Michael Palin was probably my favorite Python, followed by Terry Jones. But, the others were necessary, and I loved the whole, rather than the sum of all the parts.

Oh yeah, another sketch I liked a lot was the "Marriage Counsellor", where Palin and his babe-of-a-wife come in to visit the counsellor(played by Eric Idle). Instead of working out their marriage woes, Idle and Palin's wife, begin "shagging" right in front of the distraught husband. With a little bit of John Cleese's 'Cowboy' speech, Palin works the nerve just enough to confront the two, but is quickly disarmed after Idle tells him to "piss off". Ahh, the humanity.

Terry Jones was great as the straight man in the sketches. He played a great target, or victim. Haha! He also played women the most, too.

Come to think of it, though, maybe I like Eric Idle just a bit more. His "Nudge-Nudge" routine and his dirty old man sketch, "Babysitter".........."I'd like a bit of pram, please. Whoa!" Ah, you have to see it. Again, Terry Jones is the straight man. And, he's great in it.

No you didn't (love that sketch)

One of my personaly favourites is the mountaneering expedition. John Cleese is definatly my favourite Python, just the way he can look like an absolute twit and control the scene at the same time. He is amazing. His funniest moment ever though was the Hitler walk in Fawlty Towers. :chug:

Another great one is the "funniest joke in the world" skit. I love how complex it gets. And when the soldier is getting interrogated, and he just reads the joke, and the Germans just fall on the ground....ah, good times:lol:

Best. Sketch. Ever.

...Other than, say, the Parrot Sketch. My favorites include the Spam Sketch, the Ministry of Silly Walks, Spanish Inquisition (running joke), Idiots, How Not to Be Seen, Cheese Shop, et al.

Monty Python is absolutely brilliant stuff.

Great!

Did you guys know that Pink Floyd took time out of their recording sessions to watch them?

Yeah, I almost forgot "Holy Grail". I absolutely love that movie. A Comedy classic if ever there was one. I haven't seen it in a while, but I still remembr most of it.

I love the Witch Trial scene, where they're trying to reason whether or not she's a witch. "So, if she weighs as much as a duck, that means she floats, which means she's made of wood, which means... A WITCH!"

:D

I did not know that, although it makes sense to me. If I knew it was on TV, I'd take time out to watch it.

well, the world's best bands (Floyd, Beatles, Maiden and Opeth) aren't for everyone, so i guess it makes a lot of sense.

(before anyone points out that opeth shouldn't be there....................yes..............yes i am a fanboy :upset: )

Got the 14-disc box set of Monty Python's Flying circus. bitch!'
Best $150 I've ever spent. **** good stuff.

Does anyone else have it? I still haven't watched the whole thing. I thought the 'Scott of the Antarctic' sketch was pretty funny.

You can never know some of the most hilarious bits of Python untily ou'v eseen the show. Really, it' worth the $150 if you're a true fan (or you could P2P them all, whatever)

Stuff i have:
All four movies (Holy Grail, Life of Brian, Meaning of Life, ...Completely Different)
14-disc DVD box set of Monty Python's Flying Circus
Collection of skits on CD, can't remember what it's called

What I want most of all:
To go see Spamalot (Broadway rendition of Holy Grail, supposedly as good if not better than the movie (script writte by Idle, so can't be bad :thumb: )

If that doesn't make me a Pythoniac, I don't know what does :thumb:

Think I'll go watch some more Flying Circus.

Well I WAIT! BACK UP!

...You mean to tell me... you get to write... about Monty Python... AND Indiana Jones... on an EXAM!

You lucky son of a bitch

Uh... my opinion.

The Holy Grail isn't really talked about specifically in the movie... in fact, it isn't. At all. God says "THIS*cue angels singing* IS THE HOLY GRAIL *shows Holy Grail* AND YOU MUST QUEST FOR IT"

Then again, they do mention it when they ask the French if their Lord would like to quest for the Holy Grail, and he says "A, he says a-no, yu see, hees ulready got one" Then King Arthur says, "He's already got one?" and then Frenchy says "Yes, its-a veerryy nice-a"

And then one of the classic lines:
The Frenchy leans over and whispers "I told 'im we already got one"
*cue fellow French snickering*
One of my favorite parts of the movie.

Oh, and about your paper, just say
"Monty Python's classic film takes the minimalistic approach towards describing the aforementioned Grail, merely showing a brief animated picture and referring to it in a caricature of French idiocy."

Or something like that. Teachers eat that **** up

yeah, that could work, thanks mate! only problem is, we have to discuss how both films meet the conventions of a quest whilst using the grail as an example. SHould give me more fodder to write about, but movies start to suck when you analyse them in english, and i don't want to wreck this film, haha.

Monty Python is brilliant. My favourites remains the Holy Grail
Especially the french guy, insulting king Arthur with: Your mother was a hamster and your father smells of elleberries... I fart in your general direction... and insults like that.
And of course the knights who say: NI!
I've been walking around for a couple of weeks saying nothing else then NI! NI! NI!.

And the fabulous songs of course, like "The Lumberjack Song" or "Always Look at the Bright Side of Life" (sung at the end of Life of Brian, when Brian hangs on the cross)
