**** yes.
They played Makin' A Mess twice, the first time was a punk version which was awesome, they played the original towards the end.
18 And Life was the best bit, obviously. Oh god. Yessss. Yessssssssss.
So good.
Uh.
The Playboys were pretty good, the sound at the Electric Ballroom is better than at the Astoria so you could actually hear Yorkie's vocals.
Uh.
I could have partied with Skid Row but I had to be up bright and early for school so I went home at 11.30 :(
Oh well.
Yeah
Rock.

Who was the singer?
Is there a recorded punk version of Makin' a Mess?
Johnny Solinger iirc
And Snake was in hospital so Kerry Kelly was filling in for him :(
I have Scotty's pick btw.
Yorkie reminds me of Bach so much, I'll get a photo in a minute

Oh crap I now have to find £60 before next week. I'll go get them before the Renegade Playboys gig at the Marquee hehe.

Has no one mentioned Quiet Riot yet? It was Randy Rhoads first band. Although the only two albums he played on (Quiet Riot I & II) are only avalible as imports. You can get Metal Health and Condition Critical here in the states easily though. They were easily the best Hair Metal band ever, and the first Metal band to have a number 1 single. (Come on Feel the Noize)
First Metal band to have a number 1 single? What about like...uh...KISS or Deep Purple?
ZoolanderHotept
09-13-2005, 04:20 PM
Deep purple and Kiss were both classified as rock on the Billboard charts at the time of their singles hit the charts. Kiss's "Strutter" hit number one in the US only, same with "Smoke on the Water". "Come on feel the Noize" hit number 1 internationaly. I probaly should of said they were the first metal band to have an international number 1 hit.
Wow, never knew that :)
They sure did rock, its just a shame so many Americans heard the original and were like "Hey, they covered that Quiet Riot song!"
Metallifan85
09-13-2005, 05:35 PM
Slade was alright. The Quiet Riot cover had a more energetic feel to it, I think so anyway. And that feeling is what I listen to this kind of music for <3
Yeah, its just how people thought it was a Quiet Riot original and all, just like silly kids I know think Heaven is a DJ Sammy original.
Dave de Sylvia
09-14-2005, 11:53 AM
I don't like the Quiet Riot singer's voice, which makes the song less enjoyable than the original for me, but the band do a good job with the music. I don't particularly like Noddy Holder's voice much either, but it works. Oasis do the best cover of the song in fact.

The one they were selling outside the NEC. It has the Red White & Crue cover (or something similar) on the front and the tour dates on the back.
See I could have worn the TFFL shirt but everyone and their platform boots wear's that shirt and it bores me to death. Its a 3 CD thing of all rerecordings of the classics, so theres stuff like Cherry Pie, Leather Boyz..., Gypsy Road, Red Room and stuff, all rerecorded in late 90s/early 00s stylee (by the original artists). Today I'm going to go through Tuff - American Hair Band and listen to all the artists that I haven't listened to before.
Just for jokes here are the lyrics. Yeah.
Yeah, well I've been up and been down, town to town with several bands,
Then tortured for ten long years by critics, agents and the A&R man, and some bandwagon fans.
It's time to stand up, fight back, be proud and once again be free,
So if you want a piece of me, come and get it!
Kurt Cobain is gone but I'm back
Wearing leather pants and a backwards hat
Guitars slung low
Where the down boys go
The night trains back so on with the show
I'm Metal Health
And dressed to thrill
I'm an SMF with the looks that kill
I rocked and rolled, n' long hair is back
And I grew up, singing Strutter, And Back, in Black
I'm going back to eighty-nine
I went Platinum zero times
You're in the jungle sweet child o'mine
I want another piece of that cherry pie
Chorus #1: (Oooooohhhhhh)
They call 'em hairbands
Leather jacket in black
Throw your hands in the air
Yeah we're bringing it back
N' Say (Shout, Shout) At the Devil again
And Say (Shout, Shout) At the Devil my friend
So Say (Shout, Shout) never letting it end and say (Shout, Shout, Shout, Shout) yeah…(Bad Medicine)
I like Old Van Halen and Hanoi Rocks
Black n' Blue and Britny Fox
Guns n' Roses, Motley Crue
When Def Leppard rocked and Skid Row ruled
Yeah, Ratt went round n' round
Rocking out in Boston, get loud in Chi-town
Vandenberg, Priest, Dok-ken, Kix
Throwing Faster Pussycat in the mix (P-P-P-P-P-Pussycat)
Give me L.A. Guns & The Dangerous Toys
Quiet Riot, Bang Tango & Bullet Boys
Love Johnny Crash grunge bands are trash
I like C.C. DeVille, Mick Mars, and Slash
Chorus: #2
Breakdown:
Yeah, I saw your grunge band, staring at your shoes on stage, wearing that dirty flannel shirt,
when you gonna learn dirtball, you just can't f**k with Twisted Sister.
"What are you going to do with your life"?
I'm an American hairband
Watch me rock
You can raise your hands
Or you can suck my c**k
Heavy Metal God
I'm a Pin-up boy
I'm the singer from Tuff not Pretty Boy Floyd
Super loud and Super wild
Sebastian Bach is youth gone wild
Diamond Dave and Nikki Sixx
I wanna see Tommy Lee back spinning those sticks
Up all night, gonna sleep all day
I love girls; girls, girls and I love L.A.
I won't waste my breath, but here's a clue
Give Pearl Jam & Eddie a big f**k you
Who cares about Weezer and the Screeming Trees
When we got White Lion
And of course the Sleeze Beez
If you wanna rock n' roll then read my lips
Let's shout it out loud
For a band named KISS
Chorus: (Oooooohhhhhh)
They call 'em hairbands
Wearing leather and black
So throw your hands in the air
Now we're bringing it back
N' Say (Shout, Shout) At the Devil again
And Say (Shout, Shout) At the Devil my friend
So Say (Shout, Shout) never letting it end and say (Shout, Shout, Shout, Shout) yeah,
I'm a hairband wanted dead or alive
Singing (Shout, Shout, Shout, Shout)
I wanna rock n' roll in the still of the night
Say (Shout, Shout, Shout, Shout)
Gonna take you down to the Paradise city
And (Shout, Shout, Shout, Shout)
Everybody let's sing talk dirty to me

Hey,
Pretty new to the glam metal scene- hired a motley crue dvd, liked it, listened to some Skid Row songs and they are awesome, always loved Bon Jovi.
So now you all get to answer my 2 questions.
1) Any glam metal singers here? Any good exercises I should do for power/range? All the singers are crazy, Sebastian Bach's voice is something that I want to aim for (Not going to get it but aiming high's good)
2) This may seem silly, but I have really thick dark brown hair. I want to get my hair like modern Jon Bon Jovi'ish style or somewhere around shoulder length (or even something like Dave Grohlish). My thick hair seems to be inhibiting me- I'm growing it now, but it seems to thick to get it how these guys have it (Ok so this question isn't really that related to the music but image is important :P)
Thanks,
Dave
1) I've been wondering this too. Try Vocalist.org. I've tried to do choir and a load of other things though, my voice just isn't happening.
2) Can you post a picture so I know exactly what you're talking about? But you can thin hair out. Like...go to the hairdresser and ask him to layer and thin it? I'd grow it first then shape it, it seems to work better that way.
On The Edge

The problem with my hair is that it grows up not down. Its quite the boof :\
Vocalist.org seems to do pretty good. I try sing scales and just sing random stuff in my head voice to help also. Would be easier if I could just sing like Sebastian Bach naturally but its not happening. Do you play an instrument?
Yeah, I play guitar which is why I don't give too much of a **** about my lack of singing voice.
But it would be nice, I might try a little harder.

NP: Hanoi Rocks- Boulevard of Broken Dreams (The greenday one isn't a cover, is this name historically/spiritually significant or something?)
It's a very famous phrase, taken from a very famous painting by someone whose name escapes me. James something, I think. It was first used in song by Nat King Cole, but it was already a famous phrase. I have an idea Hanoi Rocks copped the phrase from Elvis Costello, though there's also a Lita Ford song with the same name.
Incidentally, my favourite song by both Green Day and Hanoi Rox. I listed to AI for the first time in months today, and I still love it. It was the soundtrack to my first few weeks in college last year.

1. November Rain/Estranged (I can't decide between these two for the top spot. A lot of people say Estranged is kind of boring but I really like it. Sometimes I like it more then November Rain but that's probably due to over-playing the song).
2. 18 & Life (Easy choice).

I'm going to do all the writing myself but it'd be cool to get the regulars in here involved a bit. I need expertise on what bands to feature and need to draw up a list of songs to make available. Well obviously I'll include all the stars.
I realised I can't very well put GnR and Poison in the same category, so I'm going to split the middle category into "party metal" and the more serious stuff like GnR, Skid Row and all that. Then the last category will deal with the serious turns of bands like Warrant, Skid Row, the Crue, GnR as they tried to become more respected.

I'd say vocally they're about the same. Dave has better Rock voice than Sammy, no doubt about that, but Sammy's range is incredible. I complete agree with you on showmanship though. DLR is alot better than Sammy.
I used to like both eras of VH about the same, but I tend to listen to more of the DLR era albums nowadays. They're alot more raw and heavier than any of the Sammy era (except Judgement Day maybe).

Blowdry hair, brush it as good as possible to make backcombing easier earlier
Get dressed
Go to Camden to FWB's flat
Sit around watching DVDs and TV
Go to market to pick up sunglasses/makeup/whatever is needed, Superdrugz (sic) to get hairspray, then Sainsbury's to get Vodka, mixers, and pies
Put pie in oven, do nails whilst waiting, eat pie
Wait for more friends to come over
Dance to Poison, Pretty Boy Floyd, Cinderella, KISS and 80s School Disco Music. Fight for mirror space.

Forget hours 9pm - 4am. Assume they consist of drinking, pouting, kissing, dancing, playfighting, and finally devouring a hotdog from a street vendor, before bouncing onto a nightbus or taxi back to FWBs place.
Sleep a bit at FWBs place
Count hours till next Saturday. Moan.

I wrote this for you last night, because you only seem to be competent in failing to be glamXcore.
Deliberate whether or not to apply warpaint stripes under right eye ala Tommy Lee.
If you need to deliberate, you're not glam enough for me
Sometimes I realise that I am actually getting on the bus in the biggest city in Europe looking like the lovechild of transvestite prostitute, Mad Max, and Escape From New York though :p

*It's been a while since I've been on the thread so I needed to catch up on some things:
First of all, the first four Pantera albums ruled. NP: Proud to be Loud
Second, Jon about the Poison interviews you know VH1 had a Behind the Music on em. Bret talks about his sex tape, CC talks about getting real fat in the 90s, and they show a clip of their reunion show with Bobby Dall sporting his Metallica haircut.
Interesting stuff.

Have you seen any Poison videos?
Only "Talk Dirty To Me." There's some insane thrustage in that song.
The Story of Guns N' Roses could have been the thing I borrowed, not sure.
I want to see the Poison interview.
The Moscow Music Peace Festival video is the best concert video I have. Followed closely by the Hanoi Rocks Nottingham Tapes + All Those Wasted Years, Cinderella - Night Songs movie, then the third annual Vengaboys appreciation festival DVD, and then finally Motley Crue - Live: Entertainment or Death.

The video for Right Now is the worst thing I've ever seen including a used syringe in a playground.

Motley Crue is the greatest and most notorious glam band ever:thumb: . aint knowone got **** on them:evil: , they are the "original bad boys of rock". they started from absolutely nothing, and rose to the very top. when they started there carnival of sins tour, it was like Motley Crue from back in the day(except for the age and drugs). no band: GNR, Hanoi Rocks, the Scorpions, Van Halen, etc; could do that:naughty: . If you doubt me, then read: the dirt, autobiography on Motley Crue, and you'll learn all the **** they've been through, and just why they are legendary:D .

Right, I just accepted. I probably won't be around much this week though.
Best place to start for Skid Row is the s/t.

Hehe, me too. It's one of those mid-90s efforts from glam bands trying to stay cool. The Bitter Pill and Machine Gun are among the band's best tunes.

Yeah, but Dirty Stinkin' Filthy Rich is better. Jani tried to be semi-serious on the album and it didn't really work. It has the classics though, Cherry Pie and Uncle Tom's Cabin.

NO WAYS!!! Have you listened to Power Metal? Hard Ride is DEFINATELY Not a Bland Song! No ways in hell!
Dokken were awesome. But in that vein, give me Mr Big or Racer X over them any day.
And talking of vein, give me Vain over pretty much anyone apart from Hanoi and Cinderella...
