another gem is Steelheart produced by bruce dickenson, as is danger danger

before he went sissy he was a metal man and his guitarist was bruce kulick who ended up in kiss and that's why forever (a kis ballad) is co-ritten my the mushy bastard. i no, i'm a kiss geak

holycrap thanks man, I thought I'd lost this thread to the depths of R&M forever :)

I finally downloaded Decline of Western Civilization Part II the other day. I need to track down some Seduce, London and Wet Cherri. Sleaze Roxx and Metal Sludge are of only vague use :(

However it has reaffirmed my love of Faster Pussycat, which can only be a good thing. Its also the most inspiring film I've seen, the complete opposite to how Spheeris wanted it to look and also the opposite to how its generally perceived.

Bring on the stadiums, coke, groupies and lawsuits :)
Im wondering why KISS hasn't been mentioned much. They are pretty much glam rock, and being this is the glam rock thread
This is a hair metal thread, but whatever. I'll let you talk about Iggy, the Dolls and Mott The Hoople.

i LOVE the crue....but why does motley crue get SOOO much cred among the glam people? it almost seems like what metallica has goin on....lol....(ps i do like metallica)

i think bands like dokken or whitesnake were WAAAAAY more talented and inventive...

but im not trying to bash motley crue I love wild side, SOS and of course 'GLITTER' (crank the bass and its a beautiful song) ......

Michael Monroe does the same thing, but in all fairness Hanoi were more Glam Rock than Hair Metal, they just had a pretty 80s look to them.

Motley get credit because they were awesome for what they did. As much as I love Lynch (and Dokken in general, think what they could have been like with a decent singer), the Crue epitomised S+D+R&R way, way more than Dokken ever did. They never set out to be the most talented band on the Strip (neither did Poison or Autograph for that matter), but they were great for who they were.

I discovered Pretty Boy Floyd the other day, got Size Really Does Matter, which was ok. But yesterday I got Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz. Oh dear god. Such insane amounts of awesome.

SonOfTheBeast
06-28-2005, 03:45 AM
The Crue kicked some serious ***, but most fans after 1989 became fans because "The Dirt". That book was awesome, though. They were credited for hair metal because of all the hair metal bands, Motley Crue was the most notorius, wild and unpredictable.

Would AeroSmith be hair/glam metal?
oh, and another hair and glam metal, Whitesnake, and Ufo. They were the best there was at that time.

Not true. There are plenty of Hair Metal bands that rule. I like both Motley Crue and Skid Row, but i'd say Crue are alot better in every way.

Could Extreme be considered as Hair Metal?

hethamulburton

This isnt much of a thread, if all you do is bicker about who is and isnt a hair metal band. Honestly, anybody who was a guy and dressed in makeup and chics clothes is a hair band. Now if Extreme dressed like that then yes they are.
Other bands that fit this description:
Lynch Mob, Poison, Skid Row, Kiss, Motley, Ratt, Def Lep, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, and so on and so forth. Literally ANYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey kid, want me to get into a dissertation on the differences between Glam and Hair Metal ;)

Yeah, I don't think we should be a-bickering about genre differences. Skid Row really weren't so glam and hated being labelled as glam, but for this thread they might as well be.

GnR were sued by some old Mexican guy who claimed they stole the music to Don't Cry from him. Allegedly the entire music track is the same, which I assume means it cycles the same 4 chords.

Nah, it just sounds overly similar to Cheyenne.

Earlier I also decided that One In A Million sounds a lot like a Hanoi track, I've forgotten which.

I went to the Intrepid Fox then Decadence last night, had the best time I can remember for a long while. I was in with all the people I aspire to be like, I learned a hell of a lot about the music beusiness, and I leaerned how incredibley naive about the whole rockstar shindig I am. I was also chatting to people about ****ing Poison, Seduce, Odin and Warrant. People just like me (but just old enough to be my parents), who know what they're talking about.

No but Stephen Pearcy is gonna be at the W.A.S.P. show I'm goin to in August. Not sure how good Pearcy's gonna be but W.A.S.P. should rule. Here's to hoping Blackie doesn't cancel, not show, throw a tantrum, threaten any engineer's life,and/or suck it up.

Well L.A. Guns is gonna be there too but I could really care less.I mean I will be there when they're on stage because I'm not into going to a concert late and missing opening bands,no matter who they are,but I'm pretty much there for W.A.S.P.I assume that Pearcy is gonna play Ratt songs(unless he's got solo albums I've never heard of) and if he does that shouldn't be too bad, because Ratt is pretty good, though I'm not sure who he's got for a band. But Metal Church would definately add some heaviness and reliability to the card because I have no idea what Pearcy's gonna sing,I don't like L.A. Guns, and Blackie is unpredictable.

He gives us a whole lecture on how great T.Rex are, then chokes me and Jez by the throat (lightly, he didn't mean to hurt us but he was drunk and coked up and was generally being a twat that night) and goes "those bands...nothing. KISS...nothing. T.Rex? They're a band".

Then he walked out of the room.

Anyway yeah, I love T.Rex. Probably my favourite glam rock band, after the Dolls. Maybe even better than the Dolls.

To be honest, if its a good band that have enough balls to rock hard and party harder I'll let you talk about them in this thread.

I mean Backyard Babies aren't really glam, but they rock :)

Well this thread gives me hope that some people do still like to rock and party then and that music doesnt have to be pretentious, it can just be FUN :thumb:

I have alot to learn about the proper rock 'n' roll bands around at the moment because it seems with not alot of people my age (16) being into it and the press not giving them alot of coverage you really have to research the scene.
I'm into stuff like some of the older bands you mentioned in the thread opener and stuff like AC/DC and Guns N Roses(I know not to discuss them here, to be honest I have nothing to discuss about them really). Im also really into bands like The Datsuns, The Mooney Suzuki, Modey Lemon etc but I was wondering if you guys could recommend me some bands to look out for? Cheers

Jon

I'm 16 too, but perfectly in with the London glam scene... I think you have to draw a line between hanging out with people your age and hanging out with people who are actually similar to you.

Anyway, old bands or new bands?

Old you have to check out Cinderella, Skid Row and Hanoi Rocks, newer maybe Backyard Babies, Babylon A.D., Loud N' Nasty, Crazy Lixx etc etc (to be honest I prefer the older stuff).

On the topic, there are plenty of bands who really don't like to go out and party for fear of damaging the next night's performance (I remember ZP bitching about Stratovarius wanting to be tucked up in bed by 11.30 if they had a gig the next night), but where's the fun in that?

I liked the songs you uploaded, I based my statement on A Design For Life. Which is the worst song since Travis' Rain Song.

Dave de Sylvia
08-22-2005, 02:59 PM
A Design For Life is amazing and how dare you compare it to anything Scottish. Their first two albums were their glam albums, then they went all post-punk, then they went all orchestral and crap.

Jon
08-22-2005, 03:10 PM
Which is why I may or may not have my eMule trained on their first two albums at the moment.

Generation Swine isn't so bad actually, for a pop-Nirvana-with-guitar-solos album.

I have just come into the possession of the Bowie Singles Collection and I'm in love. I completely forgot he wrote a lot of these songs and I really, really like the whole double album.

Kinda changing subject but whats everyones view on the The GA*GA*S and Glitterati?? I saw the Glitterati and they were pretty cool. What kind of success do you think they will have 'cause I think we need a few more proper bands like this for them to make an impact.

Dave de Sylvia
08-22-2005, 03:30 PM
I doubt the Glitterati will have more than moderate success, likewise the Ga Ga's, which is a shame as both have some very good songs.

RedMorningLight
08-22-2005, 03:34 PM
Yeah it's pretty accessible stuff too, especially the glitterati, so it is a shame. I guess the general public REALLY aren't digging stuff like that the moment.

Jon
08-22-2005, 03:35 PM
They're both pretty solid bands, but they're more pop orientated. I mean, I don't think I've ever heard my glam friends mention them, they're more of pop-rock bands to be honest.

What we need is more bands like Crazy Lixx, Loud N Nasty and a more ballsier version of the Renegade Playboys.

It's more glam than you, Sam.

Jon
08-24-2005, 04:03 PM
That's lies, the only thing glammer than me is a copy of the Cherry Pie LP sleeve drenched in JD with lines of ooch on it being thrown out of a penthouse window in the Hyatt House in LA, with Youth Gone Wild being played in the background whilst several scantily clad groupies mudwrestle in a giant KISS Koffin.

And I go by the name of Jon, bub.

Jon

Things to point out:
> Dave Playboy (from the Renegade Playboys) came up to me and said hi, I didn't recognise him, because a little JD had passed through my throat by that point. That was quite cool, being recognised by someone who's pseudo-famous.
> I saw Herman from Dragonforce, he remembered me, so my pass for the tour coming up should be in order

So how's this for some makeup.

Foundation enough to make me look like I have good skin
Normal black eyeliner
Littttle bit of glitter silver eyeliner on top lids
Fairly wide red eyeshadow
Huge eyelashes on one eye, ala Alex in A Clockwork Orange
Two glittery red stars (you know you get those little ones that stick on to your face) a little bit below the corner of the other eye
A little bit of glittery red lipstick

The you know those fishnet/mesh armwarmers you get? Black ones of those, and then the fingerless hand-sized ones in red. Sew them together and tie red and black zebraprint fabric around the seams (in the wrist) with about 20cm of frayed zebraprint dangling from it.

Then a sleeveless DARE shirt and leather jeans or something

Listen to Wasted (we were singing that until 10am so...), Cheap N' Nasty, She's Gone Crazy and then the rest in your own time. I don't think those recordings are with the current lineup (infact I think its just the lead guitarist/songwriter with a whole other band, but it gives youhe flavour of what I'd be playing if I can convince them I'm old enough).

I've sorted out a Hanoi jam session with Max (the singer), since the others won't let him cover any Hanoi live or in rehearsals or anything. Heh.

I found myself on a boat in the middle of Kew this morning. That's the other side of London and I had £2.31 to my name :)

i am a huge fan of motley crue. theyre brand of mindless hedonistic metal about drinking and seeing **** just gives me a massive erection. especially when im blowing lines off of the whatever stripper im bangin :naughty: at the times arse, and eating a huge wad of raw beef, because thats how manly i am.

i love whitesnake's unforgetable metal/power ballad experience as well. :smash:
although i do love them, theyre hit songs are sort of lost on me right now,ill just turn on vh1 and see if the hairmetal count down is on for the 100th time today

im really not being sarcastic, im just a jackass

remember :smoke: :chug: cool kids smoke doobies and drink beers before driving

Yeah, that one. My friend has a Girls, Girls, Girls shirt.. and she's a girl and some stupid people now think that she's a lesbian.

..What size did you get? The small size is still huge on me.. so all my band shirts are too big.

I got a large, because it was cheap, but although it looks OK it feels baggy. I usually wear mediums and if I'm feeling glam, I'm get a small.

My favorite hair bands.
1. Motley Crue (you gotta love the crue)
2. Twisted Sister (wouldn't really say that they were in that genre, they sound more like hard rock to me but oh well)
3. Skid Row (hair metal with an edge, except for I remember you which is still an awesome song)
4. The Scorpions (if Twisted Sister counts then I think the scorpions should count.)
5. Def Leppard (I like photograph)

I hate all other hair bands with a passion.

Anyone seen the movie Detroit Rock City? One of the people had Gene Simmons picture on their crotch and at the back it said Kiss this.

So.. Is Norther's cover any good?

1. Twisted Sister are one of the most typically glam bands around but, unfortunately, they're also ****
2. Detroit Rock City is a decent movie, but suffers from its relation to KISS
3. The Norther cover is surprisingly catchy, I think I have the link somewhere

I don't like the new Hanoi track.

Vince is a bit of a twat actually. I was reading through various Hanoi features on Tooting Bec Press (the Hanoi press archive) and in this one article there were several high res photos of Mike, and then one of Vince next to him.

Usually I'd say Vince in his prime was pretty damn handsome, but next to Mike in 84. My god. You could actually describe Vince as hideous in comparision.

The article btw (56k nein)

I'm totally becoming a male hooker when I'm all growed up so I can be like him \:D/

Why did Cafe Avenue and Dead By X-Mas...and the whole of SDB come to think of it...have to be on SDB (a b-side album)? Meaning they never play any of it live...
