Nintendo may leave Sony and Microsoft to squabble amongst themselves over who's got the best next-gen console at this year's E3, according to reports.

Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 will go on show at the event, but reports from Japan say the Nintendo Revolution will remain under wraps. There'll be a few rolling demos of games currently in development, but no console and no revolutionary controller on display.

So why the decision to stay out of the limelight? Well, it seems that Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata is worried about rivals nicking all his best ideas at this early stage. That's how revolutionary the new console is, apparently... and also the exact same line Nintendo used to avoid showing Mario 128 at a previous E3.

So what exactly can we expect to see on the Nintendo stand? Well, most of the space will be devoted to promoting the new Nintendo Online service. It'll be demonstrated using the DS, and it's thought that the Revolution could have a wireless router capability for hooking up the handheld to the internet. All this will be explained at the publisher's May 17 conference.

Other stuff on show will include the new Zelda game - we're promised that a playable demo will be available. Plus Pokémon XD for GameCube, Emerald for GBA and Diamond and Pearl for DS - the latter two featuring online functionality

I'm not really relying on Nintendo to impress me this year around with their consoles. The DS still needs an online game for them to earn some of my respect.

FFS! I'm so sick on Nintendo doing that every time. No one is going to nick their ideas because lately all their ideas have sucked.

Are they gonna release it in some funky colour no-one has ever tried before?! WOW. I don't care. If you want it to sell, people have to see it. And if it really is a new and completely original idea, it will get pinched sooner or later anyway.

I read this 'revolutionary' thing as meaning 'a brand new gimmick with no real insight'.
But hey, maybe it will come with a tampon-shaped microphone as standard!!

I still do- and don't call me Jesus :p

I just think they need to stop being so anal about keeping everything a secret. And stop with the pointless accessories. I just want to play games with an ordinary controller.

Yeah, the DS touch screen is a great idea, and they won't do anything too revolutionary for the new console otherwise it will put people off.

But you're forgetting- this is Nintendo we're talking about. They still think they're leading the industry in terms of innovation, when really the other companies have just given up trying to beat them since most of their recent ideas appeal to only a small number of people.

All of the stuff on the controllers etc.. were invented by Nintnedo.

They won't to anything too drastic, they aren't that stupid.

I hear Nintendo invented a new color and that is what they don't want being stolen.

I support Nintendo.

Doubt it, nintendo has been saying multiple times to "wait until E3" when asking about revolution details. not to mention there gonna reveal a playable version of the new zelda, which will own. :thumb:

If they end up coming out with a good idea, and releasing information pre-maturely, thats fair game for the other companies to jump on their ideas.

Yes. But whenever they do something like this, it turns out a bitter disappointment.

I believe they said a similar thing about Mario Sunshine. Now what did that turn out to be? A portable water fountain! Wow! It's a good thing Microsoft didn't find out about that or imagine what Halo would be like!

Mario Sunshine was great.
It was a great game. Just not up to the usual Mario standards. Mario 64 I could go back and play over and over, but Sunshine just doesn't have the same feel.

I'm afraid of all this "revolution".

Mario Sunshine was great.

Yea it was cool to play. Once.

I don't buy games to play once and say "oh, that's innovative" and never touch them again.
