Me, Adam and kif dont post for the night, and the thread dies.

Anyway. Pennywise, they were an awesome live act, played realy well, realy quick. If i wasnt so knackerd i would of gone into the pit, but insted i decided to stay near the back. There was 3 support bands, 2, i didnt particulary like, i forget there names, thaught they was pretty crappy, and they made me tierd. Streech armstrong where good, i enjoyed them. I think i saw kif too, i think he walked striahgt past me, and if it was him, he may of even stood on my foot. But i dunno.

My dad is an idiot too. He hates city driving. He came to pick us up, and he got lost in Manchester city centre. When i went out, it was a buitifull day, the sun was realy bright, would of been realy warm, but there was a nice cool breeze. so i thaught "what the hey, ill go there in what i wore to college" (3/4ers and a tee-shirt, thats it.) I got out of the gig, and it was pissing it down. Me my sister, and her mate had to all stand there in the rain for 30minutes at least, before he evern got near to the acadamey. So we all got drenched, and surprisingly a little bit pissed off. But i got to choose the music we had on in the car home, so i put on some blondie

I don't think you can die from Insomnia but their are related diseases to not "being able to sleep" that you can definitely die from. Some are family inherited and others are aquired through usually the years of stress (teenage) and the golden years (oldies!).

I wouldn't even know how insomnia feels because I take cat naps every so often and love watching porno before I go to bed :D

I'd say everything Butler said, but that pretty much summerizes it. The first support band were pretty much a political version if Funeral For A Friend. Their singer looked like a psycho too.

The second would be better without the cocky screamer. The big guy could really sing though. They had a few OK songs, I got their split EP which I haven't listened to.

Stretch Armstrong were so underated there, I think they deserved a much bigger pit. They played some new songs too, I thought they were really good.

Pennywise were fricking awesome though. They played a mixture of stuff really, mostly from Unknown Road, From The Ashes, The Fuse and Pennywise. Still, I was disappointed they didn't play Alien, my favourite Pennywise song.

The night was pretty decent actually. I bought a tee which didn't fit, so I sold it to my friend for £5 (Hey, a little more money for Finch tomorrow). We couldn't find his parent's car and it was pissing it down, and he threw up 5 times on the way back, once on my street. I got in about 1:45, stayed up for about an hour and went to bed. All in all, a decent night out.

xcbmetalcorex
06-29-2005, 11:14 AM
I know you're smarter than that, I was just pointing out. :p

The screaming may make it sound heavy but the genre they are closest to is pop-punk. I use popcore, short for pop-punk with a small hardcore influence, to account for the screaming and heaviness but whatever.

Angry Balled Fists!
06-29-2005, 11:16 AM

Ohhhhhh, you're listening to The Changing Of Times. That explains it. TCOT is a metalcore album, which is a combination of metal and hardcore. Converge is metalcore. Their newest album is what I was talking about with the pop-punk.

And to your other post, hardcore is faster, heavier punk. Heavy metal is metal. They're very different

Sure they could have pop-punk influences but to reconcile bands like Greenday, Blink 182, The Offspring, etc. to Underoath in the same catergory is that a bit over the top?

Christian may not be a label but it's definitely an influence over music whether it's lyrically or musically.

Black metal... I don't see how that's even possible seeing how it seems like Venom and Underoath have barely any identicals at all. I don't think that UO is playing 32nd's over 16th's which is what Black metal usually seperates itself from Thrash with.

Bands that I've always known for being Black metal and sometimes the ancestors are bands like Cradle Of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, the Black Legions, Bathory, and Immortal Celius.

They're very different

haha, yeah.

Do you have The Act Of Depression? It's pretty damn close to black metal.

You want another genre? Popcore, pop-punk with a small hardcore influence. That accounts for the screaming and occasional heavy part.

I do, but you're comparing a small introduction release to an evolving band that's either changed it sound because they sold out, or changed it sound because they got bored..

It's hard to even compensate between Underoath and black metal. Typically high-pitched screaming vocals, tremolo picked guitars lacking bass and emphasising treble, and blastbeats. I just don't even put it in the same catergory when I hear it.

Black Metal is pretty oldschool in my mind and normally isn't used to determinate a band. The first wave of black metal had alot of similarities with Thrash in terms of musicianship. In terms Raw (Also considered Real) Black Metal is very monotonous, unmelodic, with very bad production, and cheaply printed releases. If you loved Death metal it seemed only second nature Black Metal would be. There are various less-widespread forms of Black Metal, such as a mixing BM with other styles (Doom, Power, Speed, etc), but it would take too much time to go into such details.

Basically the way I used to see it
First Wave of Black Metal: (early) Bathory
Second Wave of BM: Darkthrone, Burzum
Black Metal: Darkthrone, Nargaroth
Raw Black Metal: ...Aaaarrghh...,Hate Forest
Symphonic BM: Dimmu Borgir
Death/Black Metal: Belphegor, (early) Naglfar (Swe)

Chris is probably more developed and smarter in the screamo and emo catergory but for me it's basically something inspried through post-hardcore and punk. Soft and sometimes screamed out vox with melodic guitars and sometimes crushing power chords inbetween. Octave Chords that we see in pop-punk are well reknowned in emo and screamo. Lyrics are basically poetry or very abstract sayings with lots of imagery.
