Yes
ELP
Doors
Keyboard was just as common as any other instrument in rock until about the 80's. Give the kid a chance. What makes you think guitar is any more important than the ivories?

Classic Rock
Deep Purple
Rainbow
UFO
Kansas
Boston
Led Zep
Who
just to name a few
All used keys, I think you could find a few songs from those bands to play in your band. Make sure your keyboardist has some decent Organ / B3 and Rhodes tones.

Actually, The Who didn't (And doesn't, I believe)have a keyboard player. They used one in there Rock Operas a lot, though- and I remember they all used to say if they could find a good enough keyboard player they'd grab him up. That was before Moon passed away, though.

I cant confess to being a Who fan or knowing everthing about them but.
Pete Townshed played the boards from the discographies that I've seen. But your right they didnt have a full time player however, my intial point was that all those bands used keys.
Some classic rock songs by the who with keys.

Thats true-but only for the albums. Live, they wouldn't use Keyboards, and most of the songs didn't have them.

Keyboards have been used in many great bands. The way i see it..if its good enough for Zeppelin to have it...its good enough. It adds a certain sound to a band that can change a song..how would no quarter by led zep sound w/o it..or half of springsteen's songs.

Well, that's kind of obvious being Pink Floyd had a keyboardist.
