I actually quite liked the transplants first album. Never heard the second.

Expensive Taste(s)... (another new band for Travis, for those who didn't read the above article) Hmm... Probably won't be that interesting, but I might grab a couple of tracks if/when they release anything. With a rapper frontman I don't expect it to be my cup of tea.

That is why he is a respectable drummer that can play many different styles of music.

HitHardDrums55
01-21-2006, 07:19 PM
i can play more styles than i've heard travis play and i've only been playing 4 years while he's been playing since he was 4

lets see...he can definately play rock we learned that with blink182 and boxcar racer, with the aquabats he basically played rock beats...but hell we'll throw ska in there cause i have to admit he did have some ska beats...so 2...and with the transplants we learned he can play funk...which is the same stuff he plays with any rapper he plays with, and knowing he took lessons from a jazz drummer i'm just assuming he can play jazz

me: i can play rock, jazz, funk, and ska...i can also play latin and middle-eastern grooves and fusion pretty much anything you can name that doesn't involve double bass

and im not saying im better than travis, that would be kind of rediculous since hes what 30 now? so thats 26 years of playing drums, of course he's better than me...but i cant honestly say i've ever heard him play any fusion grooves or anything

Ross
01-21-2006, 07:40 PM
Given chance, I'm sure he can.

But hell, I'm no drummer so I can't really comment.

I don't really see how that's a valid point. Just because you haven't heard him play more styles, doesn't mean he can't.
Like I play bass in my band. I tend to do basic pop punk stuff with some relatively hard and complex fills/solos. Just because I don't play any funk or blues in my music doesn't mean that I can't play them.

DJ Ducksauce
01-21-2006, 08:29 PM
I downloaded the Transplant's S/T not too long ago. Haven't heard it yet, think I'm about to maybe.

I think I might pick up a drum kit some time and start learning. After I get a bass. Then I could play whatever in a band. I'd have to pick up quite a bit of cash though before that. :p

just the fact that he's played with so many different musicians, and i've heard majority of the stuff he's played in...and that one guy said he can play a lot of different styles...im just saying what people have heard him play isnt that many theres tons of different stuff out there...but i will admit he does more than most drummers who get big and stick to one band and they break up and you never hear from him again

FauxApathy
01-21-2006, 09:14 PM
I think it'd be hilarious if Expensive Tastes became really popular. Just blew up kind of like Eminem did when He first released a couple singles. Or Green Day during American Idiot.

And then of course everyone who liked the Transplants would be pissed and start whining about how they were better.

About Travis' drumming, you can't play an instrument for over twenty years and be just a mediocre drummer.
For example...Mark has probably been playing bass for about twenty years, but have you ever heard him pop/slap in a song? None that I'm aware of. Yet, he probably still can. In fact, he's probably pretty good at it.

HitHardDrums55
01-21-2006, 09:27 PM
i've already stated the fact that i've heard mark slap i think...but i have heard him slap for sure and it was good...i've seen a LOT of solo footage of travis and it's ALWAYS funk and i've read a ton of interviews and he talks about his influences a lot and not once have i heard him mention anything other than rock and funk and occasionally jazz with his drum teacher when he was a kid...you'd think out of the about 10-15 drum magazines i have featuring barker, and the tons of videos i've seen of him and having heard most of his songs that he'd do something of all the styles he knows...but he hasnt if he does know all those styles

he used to be my favorite drummer until i discovered bands i like more than blink182

and yes it is possible to play something for over 20 years and still just be mediocre...it's called a skill plateau. you don't get any better, don't get any worse..just stay the same...sure you can write new stuff, but still it doesnt always expand your skill level...i think thats what he did when he left the aquabats for blink

yourstruly
01-21-2006, 09:29 PM
I've seen and heard Mark slap. But why would anyone slap in a pop-punk song. That would be retarded.

plaidbassbilly

HitHardDrums55
01-21-2006, 11:47 PM
you can slap in pop-punk, but i'll agree slapping doesn't suit blink182

but travis on the other hand, has played with more than just pop punk and therefore has a right to play fusion and latin and all kinds of crazy grooves, but he doesnt.

I've just recently heard, from a friend of a friend of mine, that Carol Heler has left Plus 44 due to 'trouble with the band members'.

I have no idea weather or not this is true, but I thought I'd bring it to your attention anyways.

This is all I've found on it...

hxxp://www.chartattack.com/damn/2006/01/2506.cfm

(change the x's to t's...)

It's in the 4th paragraph, just incase you're illiterate and can't find it by yourself. Even though if you were illiterate you wouldn't be able to read it even if you did find it....

If this is so.. Dammit.

YES, GO ME! 25 POSTS!!

That's one quarter of one hundred, which is one tenth of 1000, which is one third of 3000, which is one third of 9000, which is really close to 10,000. So now you see how close I am to 10,000 posts.... I'm sorry.

I was in Los Angeles for a few days last week, and being old friends with Tom I called him up and asked if we could have a coffee or something, he was actually in the studio at the time so I went in for a visit. We chatted for a while about things and he asked me what my thoughts were on the whole Angels and Airwaves thing. I told him that I was just very anxious to hear the album. So he went into one of offices and grabbed me a copy. I was stoked. I didn't listen to it 'till I got back to New Zealand because I was so nervous to finally hear it. Let me just say, it is amazing. I much prefer the old Blink, I consider Blink's S/T as a different band altogether. It is good, but if I want completely serious music I know other bands that are probably better at it, whereas before Blink were the best in the world at what they did. No-one in the Pop/Punk genre came close IMO.

what went wrong, time to break up, and don't tell me that it's over are all bonus songs from take off your pants and jacket, depending on which version you got. if you got the yellow one with tom's picture on the sticker on the case you got what went wrong. if you got green with mark's picture on the sticker you got don't tell me that it's over and if you got red with travis's picture on the sticker you got time to break up. if you waited and didnt get a sticker on the case then you probably didnt get a bonus song. each of the original 3 limited editon versions had a serious song (the 3 i named) and a joke song, which in my opinion suck. i hate blink's joke songs...they're so retarded.

She brings me mexican food from sombrero’s just because

And my girlfriend likes u.l. and d.h.c.
And she’s so smart and independent, I don’t think she needs me
Quite half as much as I know I need her
I wonder why there’s not another guy that she’d prefer

And when I feel like giving up
Like my world is falling down

I show up at 3am

See her pretty face
It takes me away to a better place and

what went wrong, time to break up, and don't tell me that it's over are all bonus songs from take off your pants and jacket, depending on which version you got. if you got the yellow one with tom's picture on the sticker on the case you got what went wrong. if you got green with mark's picture on the sticker you got don't tell me that it's over and if you got red with travis's picture on the sticker you got time to break up. if you waited and didnt get a sticker on the case then you probably didnt get a bonus song. each of the original 3 limited editon versions had a serious song (the 3 i named) and a joke song, which in my opinion suck. i hate blink's joke songs...they're so retarded.

Family Reunion is good. The Big Day Out show is also awesome because there's no lights or smoke machines or anything. It's just music.

I just watched it again. Cracks me up so much, i loved it when Blink were doin the funny videos. Scott seems pretty cool, he's alot more like Tom and Mark than Travis is.

I never really liked Travis, even if he is a better drummer, I'd prefer Scott to still be in the band. Actually, at the moment, I couldn't care less who was drumming, I just want Mark and Tom back together...

I saw/read it somewhere that they were all sweet again. I can't remember exactly. They say that after the Angels and Airwaves tour Blink 182 are gonna reform and do some stuff. But like I've said before, you never know what could happen.

Either way Blink had a good run, they were together for like 13 years. That's a huge achievement in itself.

Yeah, but someone said this before December 14th.
December 14th = Tom's birthday, and the day No It Isn't by Plus 44 got released. The song is obviously about Tom, and was released on his birthday for the reason that it strengthens Mark's point.

Mark said somewhere that the song wasn't about Tom. But thats really hard to believe. I don't get why Mark would release a song directed at Tom when they're all good again.

i never thought it was about tom. i figured it was some weird-*** emo song about some girl even though mark's married...but i like it...

my theory on the split of blink: they obviously didn't do it for "family time" since they're all doing seperate projects, and travis has been touring until the transplants split and tom either is, or is about to start touring isnt he? i think tom needed time away from mark and travis. i don't blame them for needing time away from each other...travis is extremely cocky and being stupid 24/7 can be kind of annoying at times...i have a friend whos exactly like them

Yes that is true.
When did Mark say the song wasn't about ToM?

Also, to the people who say blink will only go downhill if they get together again, how do you know that? Combined with the music of AVA and Plus 44, blink can be a revolutionary band. (as Tom claims)

Tom tried to be the center of attention in the band too much I think. It shows a lot in performances. He was always cutting off Mark and ignoring him. He could be a bit of an asshole at times.

In the Blink bio there's this section about the Josie video, and the food fight part. Mark says he got hit in the eye with mashed potato, and for the next 3 days mashed potato would randomly squirt out. Grosssss.

Forwhoever wanted the Blink covers, the full albums on this site, the dl is very fast compared to how it used to be, maybe 10 minutes.

http://app.dagi3d.net/foropunk/

Its on the bottom, goto VA, under "v" and you will find it.

OR

If you don't want the whole album or just wanna hear some songs go here

http://www.purevolume.com/blink182tributealbum

I suggest getting the album, I like it a lot.

Copy and paste the link for PV into your toolbar cause for some reason its not working right.
