It must suck for you to d/l music. It does, which is why I usually just buy the CD...it may cost more (duh) but it also means I supported that band and that if they can't make CD's anymore because of funds, I know I'm not the reason why.

I'll post the article:
Tom Delonge has spoken exclusively to Kerrang! about his new project Angels and Airwaves.

In his first interview since Blink 182 announced in February of this year that they were taking an 'indefinite hiatus', Delonge has revealed how he was inspired to get a new band together while the punk-pop trio were touring Europe at the end of last year, in support of their last self-titled album.

"Just before all the blink 182 **** happened when we were in Europe, i has a really wierd epiphany," Delonge confesses to K!, "My heart was beating about 100 miles a mintue for three weeks straight and it had never happened to me before in my life. I really felt like i'd been touched by something and i felt i was meant to do something massive."
Delonge started working on the fourthcoming Angels And Airwaves album which is expected to be released in April, shortly after blink went on hiatus. Recording took place in the Foo Fighters' Los Angeles studio. "As the new record started coming together, it was so beyond my expectations," he says. "I honestly think that people are going to flip out when they hear this. I'm not even joking right now, it's so good. It's so much better than anything i've ever done and i think people will suspect God came down and wrote half of it!"

"It sounds like it has the conceptual depth of Pink Floys, the anthemic architecture of U2 but with Tom from blink writing all the melodies," Delonge adds. "All the songs are very cinematic, anthemic and epic-sounding. The music sounds angelic. Every song gives you the chills and you feel like you want to cry but you're conquering the world at the same time. It sounds like stadium rock done by a band that's meant to be the absolute biggest band in the world."

Angels and Airwaves also includes guitarist David Kennedy (Boxcar Racer/Hazen Street) and drummer Atom Willard (Rocket From the Crypt/ The Offspring). At the time of the interview, Delonge couldn't announce the name of the bassist, but internet reports last week stated that Ryan Sinn formerly of The Distillers, has joined AAA.

A DVD is also currently being made, which will accompany the band's forthcoming debut album.
"The movie is a third documentary, a third love story and a third CGI," he explains."It's the story of the album, which is the story of the break-up of one of the biggest bands in the world and the creation of the world's greatest band.

"We're currently making the CGI sequences and we're working with one of the leading art supervisors of 'Star Wars'. It's incredible stuff," Delonge adds. "The documentary part is about me, my life and creating the new band and the love story is about a girl that's on drugs and a guy that's running from his life and they come in contact with the music and it changes them. The whole idea is that even though there is struggle in your life you can find happiness and love within the worst of times."

The frontman is feeling extremely confident about his new band's potential, even going as far to suggest that his former bandmates, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker, who have formed a new band called Plus 44 together, will be disgruntled when they hear the album.

"When i sat around planning this, i thought, 'Not only am i going to be back but i'm going to be about 10 times bigger that i ever was. I feel like there's nothing that can stop me," he says. "All the bands say that they're going to be the biggest band in the world but no-one has any idea what i'm doing. Once they find out, they're all going to say, '****, ****! We've got a lot of work to do. When this band lands on the world next year, it's going to be like the second coming of Christ!"

"I always though Blink 182 was my life but i've realised that it wasn't, it was just the first stepping stone," Delonge admits "I've heard Plus 44 and it's totally different to what I'm doing. They (Hoppus and Barker) are amazing musicians but i wouldn't want to be in their situation when this record comes out next year. That's how confident i am about this."

I've just spent the last hour or so reading all the articles and stuff u guys posted and now im really exited about this band. Personally, i believe all the stuff Tom is saying about it - I cant wait for the album to come out (when is it coming out again? - April?)

Tom - "when I say I'm the "second coming of Christ", just remember, I also said the last Blink record was going to create world peace"
- that's what I thought about the last Blink record - I bet every song by AvA will be like "Not Now", "Violence", or "Letters to God"

I've always liked Mark's Singing more than Tom's. I didn't like Tom's at all in fact. But I'm not partial to female singers, and I love the offspring, so I'm more excited for AVA.

I know this is a noobish question, but did Tom ever actually announce a date/time period for when the album might be out? I just know he said he was almost done.

Yeah, I generally prefer Mark's singing too although Tom's is better in certain cases. I have to say I'm more excited for Plus-44 just because I like Mark, and secondly, Tom is the one who ended blink. I'm looking forward to AAA a lot, but I have to say I'm kind of disappointed in him.

I haven't seen this much activity in this thread in a long time.

I'm in 6th. I don't post as much in this thread unlike the old one where I had the most posts in it. The only reason 1057z has the most posts is because he tends to triple post often. Take away al his triple posts he would be at like 200, with the rest of us.

And I'm surprised at the amount of people talking in here. It seems to be going well and most of it is on topic. :amaze:

I actually prefer the album version of GAtC, but pretty all the rest of it sounds so much better then on the album.

It's a shame they played Mutt and Wendy Clear instead of Anthem and Party Song though.

EDIT: And why isn't Dysentry Gary on there? That kicked when I saw them play that at Reading a couple of years ago.

Just so long as its not them at Brixton Academy last year, that's fine.

blink wasn't punk to begin with...punk isn't really their style anyways.

I don't know about that.

If you look at what punk bands did musically (bass-snare, or bassbass-snare drum lines, power chords, palm mutes, the way they used the bass guitar, etc...) Blink 182 fit that perfectly up until Travis came in.

Compare Carousel or Dick Lips to punk from 1977 (Still Little Fingers, Cockey Rejects, etc...) and you'll see what I mean.

Travis took what are quite boring drum lines and made them his own and made them much more interesting.

I think Blink 182 were punk to start with, they just veered away from it when Travis joined because he gave them the scope to be able to and not just sound like a punk band trying to play pop. He allowed them to sound like a unique band, which is why they are so loved by many.

you can discuss if blink 182 is punk or not punk all day ....

what i find is wierd is
according to some people pop punk mean popular punk so in there term ur only pop punk once u release a album....or somthing

and other people say pop punk is just more happy and more about girls

i agree with the latter

pop-punk is not 'popular-punk', it is defined by the other chararterictics you mentioned- girl themes etc. Other musical features include stuff like more hooky guitar lines and melodic singing.

It is not just defined musically though, other things such as an independant ethos define a pop-punk band.

Well.........that statement is kind of bias. blink and GD didn't start pop-punk they kind of had an influence on the all ready evolved pop punk.

they had a massive influence on all the modern pop-rock bands, there's a big difference between that and pop-punk bands

I agree with you on that, pop-punk ISN'T popular punk. Popular Punk seems to be a term that contradicts itself, therefor it wouldn't make sense for it to be called that.

For next time can you do me a favour? Don't just come into the thread and tell me what I said was total bull****. Just tell me your opinion, you don't need to be an *** about it.

Indeed. They are pop-PUNK. Considering that bands like the Vandals, Pennywise, and NOFX helped them get going, along with many other bands, it's kind of hard not to say that they were/are punk.
