Why if not did they all of a sudden avoid any kind of complication in their music
The main beef I have with your post is this bit. Not playing complicated music does not mean selling out. That's what pop-punk is. They play simple music because they want to, not to make money. Their genre is simple. That's just the way it is.

Blink's first few albums with more complicated guitar parts and percussion were their best though. Easily.

I think the first post got half answered with the second.
Don't tell me pop-punk is simple, that doesn't have anything to do with my post. I said they avoided any complication later. They have always been pop-punk (except S-T) and they sold out. Again, get over it.
Yes, I agree with you Sean.

"We've done the same things that we were doing in the begining, and we never wanted our band to stay small. I mean, we want our band to be as big as it can, and I'm not going to die wondering about some kid that calls us a sell-out at a show. I don't have a problem being on MTV, and I don't have a problem being on the radio. I actually like it. So there. And anyone that calls me a sell out is just jealous."
-Mark Hoppus
That should clear up what they think about it. Anyways, this whole time I've basically been arguing that they didn't sell out because they 1) didn't really change their style, 2) acted the same from beginning to stardom, 3) like all musicians, dreamed of the opportunity to go big, and took it when they got it. To me and many others, that's not really selling out. However, at this point, I think it's best that we simply agree to disagree and move on with the thread rather than debate to the end of time.

One of the main reasons people say they sold out on Enema is because of the 'Cleaner production' of the major labels. If they recorded Enema with the same production as dude ranch, I doubt the same amount of people would be saying they sold out.
thats exacatly true.......... the recording makes the album sound more popish than its really is.....
trust me i have a very very very very very very very very rare enema of the state demo .... it even has a instrumental track called life is so boring... but anwyays its a demo of the songs they were about tol do about buddha quailty and i can tell you songs like what my age again and aliens exist dont sound popish watsoever.... ill try and find it but i had to get **** off my comp and again its on a disk :(.... i have millions around cant find it

True. You can easily access every single song Blink has ever released. It's quite creepy actually.
I got a torrent ages ago, and it includes B-sides to every single, so I have live versions that have been released, as well as every studio recorded song.
Like the other version of The Country Song, found at the end of Wasting Time (live) on the Josie single. I find it is a bit funnier than the original, with lyrics as : "Take off your pants sister, I want to use my schlong to pop your ten foot blister, oh I know it feels so good. Take off your pants cousin, I saw your nipples, you have a dozen, 'cause I know it feels so good".
It's probably just because I like the word schlong.

It isn't that creepy, it's just because they are such a huge band. I still need to find Marks' demo he made in high school.
Right now on the podcast, Mark is interviewing TBS at the studio where they are recording the new album. It's not very interesting at the moment to be honest. He's played 2 songs, and it's 13 minutes in.

I used to have Mark's demo, but I lost it when I lost my old hard disk, and the torrent didn't have it again. It was terrible quality though, so I don't really miss it. It was on a fansite, I think it may have been BlinkATS before it shut down.
Mark's podcasts are alright, it was cool just finding out that TBS are actually in the studio now.
And 1057 guy, I have got that demo.

I have that demo, its good, a lot of songs are untited though. There is one Blink piece that is still VERY VERY rare, and that is the ORIGINAL Flyswatter Cassete tape. There was only a handful made for friends and family. I know you can download the songs and buy fake CD'S and cassetes off ebay, but hardly anyone has the original Flyswatter Demo Cassette. I dont anyywaz

Nope, that's known as the Buddha Promo Tape. The one he is talking about is a different demo, with two untitled songs and one called Better Days, and then the rest are available in other forms.

It's not only less complicated it adds a pop feeling to it. They sacrificed guitar riffs to add catchy melodies and choirs.
Whatever, I'm not going to discuss anymore, it seems I won't convince you. Besides he says he wanted to be popular, and if you follow their career it's clear they changed they sound to be popular. For the fifth time this is not a bad thing but my definition of selling out is to change your sound in order to be popular. You're not going to make me change that.

Basically people who listen to pop have simple minds (:p) and they like simple things. Plus: Simple Riffs/Melodies are catchy.

yes i would. This gives me a chance to vent my anger towards you. Now, i just want to say, i konw you are the reason why blink broke up, because of your selfishness and lack of compromise. If you from 10 years ago met the you of today he would call you the biggest douche bag on this planet. 10 years ago you were proud to write songs that meant something to your fans, but now all you care about is writing emo, depressing **** that only the new generation of fanboys will ever buy. Blink 182 was the first band i actually got into, they gave me the confidence to pick up an istrument without being afraid of sucking, and give me the confidence to this day to say fart jokes that freak people out. !0 years ago you guys were a real band, in fact ever since travis came along blink went down hill, why you ask, because they lost there values, they lost there ability to laugh at themselves, and then they started taking themselves to seriously, with the exception of mark. I beg you tom, and mark to please get back toghether with scott and write Music that means the world to people, write the music that you guys wrote when you were poor ****s touring the country.
Im sorry to say this but blink lost a lot of true fans after the s/t release, and i know they dont care, because as long as they are making money they are happy. Emo should die, mcr and the used can eat eachothers kids for all i care, but for crying out loud, will some band please bring back good old fun pop-punk, the stuff that was associated with the skate scene in the 90's, please.

If that was a very serious post about the way you feel about Tom, then I have nothing to say but that I have sheer amounts of hate for people like you. Seriously, accept the fact that Blink are broken up and stop looking to reasons and people to blame it on. Even if this was Tom, that's no way to talk about a band you have probably loved a lot of your life. The fact that Tom and Blink GREW UP is apparently too hard a concept for some fans to get past, and I personally am ashamed to belong to such a fanbase filled with cunts like you.
The fact that you are begging, I repeat that word, begging him and Mark to reform Blink might be the saddest thing about that post. Blink had to split sometime, and I am happy that they did. Blink-182 was a superb way to cap off their musical careers, and I've seen them 3 times. I'm happy. You call Tom selfish, yet I have no doubt you would gladly suck the **** of every Blink fan in the world to get them back together, and that is pathetic.

You realize there are good pop-punk bands around which you'd probably like, but are too arrogant to give them a listen because of the way they dress or the fact that they have 2389 friends on their pimped out Myspace accounts. Allister, Fall Out Boy, Alkaline Trio, NOFX, Emanuel, Less Than Jake, The Explosion, The Fight, Go Betty Go, Day At The Fair, Houston Calls, Cartel.
Just make the effort to search out for bands who make the music you like to listen to, and don't sit around waiting for it to fall on your lap, because I can guarentee you, it will be LONG time before a band with the status of Blink-182 appears in the media again

Seriously, there's plenty of good bands out there that carry on the 90's punk sound. Blink used to play with most of them, like LTJ, Bouncing Souls, and so on. Hopefully I'll be in a similar band one day that actually tours unlike my half-hearted excuse for half of a band. :thumb:
And that AAA song sounded...odd, especially the ending about gay ****, I only look at that on fridays. :thumb:
In all seriousness, I think it would probably be great with lyrics and everything. The violin(?) that was in there was an interesting touch, and kinda seemed like a little Flogging Molly or other folk imfluence.

Yea, but like just under a year there was that guy named Mark Hoppus and he said he was Mark and told people he would say "Hi to the Musician Forums" at a concert and he never did. So many people believed him.
/didn't believe it was Mark.
I was hoping some one would remember that. Me and Untitled and a couple of others were supposed to meet up at that concert. I never saw them. I don't think? I don't really like this thread any more. It's no where as good as it used to be and I think some of the you who remember what it was like would agree. Now all it is is a place to talk about all of the side projects that are going on and how great blink "USED" to be. Honestly I think blink in over. As much as I hate to say it. I recall an interview with mark and tom where they asked them about a GH album and they just laughed and said that they would put out a GH when they where all dryed up and out ****ty *** booby jokes. Really was a good interview got it of ta net.

Blink 182 frontman Tom DeLonge has broken his silence since the band announced their 'indefinite hiatus' last February. In his FIRST interview since then, Tom has revealed all to K! about his new project, Angels And Airwaves. "It sounds like stadium rock by a band that’s meant to be the absolute biggest band in the world," he tells us. "People are going to flip out when they hear this. I’m not even joking right now, it’s so good. It’s so much better than anything I’ve ever done." Read the rest of the interview in next week's Kerrang! and find out what Tom thinks his former Blink bandmates Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker will make of his new band...

I agree 100% with you man. At one point this was the only thread I ever went to. Now I only check up on it every once in a while. Blink is over, their done. I can't even picture them playing music together anymore, it just feels like the Blink era is done. I dunno maybe I'm growing outa them, or maybe they grew outa me. It just feels as if really for them to put out another album wouldn't be what they'd want.
I may give AVA a listen if I hear it's any good from other people, and maybe the same with Plus 44...but really to me it seems as if Mark, Tom and Travis have all totally given up on Blink, each in a different band now. That's ok though, I understand, hell I just gave up on my band a little bit ago.

I remember this thread when blink was actually together. I'm definately going to listen to their side-projects. It's like the closest thing to blink.
Back in the day, the only place I ever posted was the Blink thread. Now I only ever post if there's actually something to talk about, but right now there isn't really.
I will listen to Plus 44 and AAA because I want to see how they do on their own. I could care less if Blink get back together because I think I have out grown them too.

well its all over now and we the fans can only dream of such a tour where plus 44 and AVA tour in harmony but I believe that they broke because they spent to much time away from home as a member of the U.S. armed forces I know how it feels to spend months form ones family and having so little contact with them so I respect thier desision to split. But I still dont want to think that Blink-182 will stop making music. there is a saying which talks about how hind sight is 20/20 and looking back on the untitled album each song was so unique and diffrent form the next that it seemed like a cry for a direction and leadership. unlike the previous albums which all had some sort of underlying element that sturng the songs into an album the last album had to many directions I miss you, Obvious, go, Asthenia, and Lost with out you all seemed to be missed placed the album was great dont get me wrong but it was an album of black sheeps. it was as if they were each trying to make their own album not blink182's album. if i seem bitter over critical its only because I love their music so much so and because of them I bought a bass at 15 an play it every day (mostly Blink182) I have all thier cds (regretably I dont have their vinyl or tape) the book and 4 dvd (urethra chronicals I II box car racer and Kut u up) I never had the chance to see them live but i would go to a transplant plus 44 and angels and airwaves consert just to see the fromer members of blink 182 preform. I know i did not include scott but i have no clue as to what he is up to so dont give me any crap about the former members statement because some one always will. To who ever started the second thread thanks because i will never be able to stop talking about the former glory (which will live on forever in my music collection).

Same with me. Except it would be Rap and Linkin Park. Actually, my first pop-punk/power pop band I liked was GC and SP in 8th grade. That was only 2 years ago.:amaze: From there I got into Sum 41 and blink. Now I am where I am now.

I got into blink-182 around 2001, and then moved on to bands like GC and Simple Plan a couple years later. I still like those bands on rare occasions, but my music tastes have brodened to include everything from pop-punk, punk, and power-pop to ska, emo, screamo, and hardcore.
Blink started me, then I moved into Sum 41, Good Charlotte and Simple Plan. Now out of those 3, I can only listen to Sum 41, which I rarely do. After that I started listening to Taking Back Sunday and Brand New and then to pretty much all the bands I listen to now. I still listen to Brand New And Taking Back Sunday though:thumb:.

i think after reading what tom said i lost hope in them ever being a band again
but angels and airwaves and plus 44 should be great.....i hope
atleast we can hear toms side through the album
I felt like I lost my two best friends, I lost the band I created, and I did it all for my family. And so I decided to write the album and make the movie about my life.
A third of the movie is CGI, a third of the movie is a documentary and a third of it is a love story. And it basically tells the story of the breakup of one of the biggest bands in the world and the creation of the world's greatest rock band

Didnt Tom say somthing along the lines of: "I didnt want blink to go on hiatus... but it had to. Soon you'll find out why..." some time ago?
Tom DeLonge wants you to know that his new band, Angels & Airwaves, will probably change the way you listen to rock and roll, will more than likely alter your life and will most definitely be the most famous band in the world. You've just got to give him some time.
Does anyone belive this? I am going to feel so sad for Tom, him having said all this, when theyre not the "most famous band in the world." Come on...

i think after reading what tom said i lost hope in them ever being a band again
but angels and airwaves and plus 44 should be great.....i hope
atleast we can hear toms side through the album
I felt like I lost my two best friends, I lost the band I created, and I did it all for my family. And so I decided to write the album and make the movie about my life.
A third of the movie is CGI, a third of the movie is a documentary and a third of it is a love story. And it basically tells the story of the breakup of one of the biggest bands in the world and the creation of the world's greatest rock bandHmm, that sucks, ill be looking forward to this album/film but he's digging it up way to much, "greatest rock band ever" hmm

I second this motion. I was listening to Cheshire Cat recently, and I have remembered how great Blink were. I've only listened to other random songs occassionally since then though, I don't really have an urge to listen to other albums.

He's confindent because he knows it's going to be half decent. I'm looking forward to the album and I think it will be good. He has made a bit of hype saying it's gonig to be the best rock album in 20's years. I seriously think he was just over exaggerating that. I think he's trying to get people to know he still has a sense of humour.

I agree with both of you. This thread is attracting many fanboys and that says there it should be closed. But, the last time it got closed all the fanboys got pissed off and we re-opened with in a few hours because there was about 3 or 4 threads made of people mad that it got closed.
Also, I agree with Rancid and if there are spammers, they should get banned. There has been a lot of Blink talk in the last week or two, which has surprised me. It is happening for now because a bunch of news about AVA and Plus 44 seem to be getting revealed and after a couple of weeks it will be gone. But, I think if a couple of people keep control of the Blink talk then we won't get stupid spammers or keep the talk on topic.

No this thread should not be closed because there are threads about other bands that have broken up. In addition, if you do close it, there will end up being a minimum of three threads per member of blink and per side-project of blink by my estimate. There will also probably end up being one or two about their upcoming greatest hits album. Then, when these are closed, threads will be made and others hijacked about why they have been closed. Just leave this one open and ban people who can't contribute to the thread or do nothing but say negative things.
Anyways, today was the first time I've listened to S/T in a while and I've been listening to it all day. I can honestly say that I've never really realized just how good it is. I love it, although I still think Dude Ranch is their best.
I mostly just want to do it to get unintelligent members out of here. Especially ones that have the grammar and spelling abilities of an 8 year old.

Nah, I know for a fact that a lot of people who went to high school in the late 90's and early 00's have or have had Dude Ranch and loved it and listened to it almost everyday. Without Dude Ranch, there would not have been any blink-182 on MTV, no headlining world tours, no awards, and no legions of fans. Even people who don't listen to much blink, but still like punk consider it one of their best (the other mentioned is usually Cheshire) and consider it one of the better examples of 90's punk and pop-punk.
Why dont you just change the thread title to "the official blink/ava/ plus 44 thread", that would be easier and it will keep this thread on track.

It is now my official opinion that Tom Delonge has gone off the deep end. I hate to say it, cause I like the guy, but I figured he'd be done stabbing people in the back after the whole Scott Raynor affair.
I can tell you right now that this is not going to be the greatest band in the world. It will probably be good, and a lot of people will probably like it. Hell, I'm going to buy it and will probably also like it, but I can guarantee that there are going to be many who don't. Remember all the hype that "American Idiot" got? Remember how it was being sold as a "punk rock opera" and "one of the greatest albums of all time" and so on. In the end it turned out that it was good, but not that good, and is clearly overrated if you ask me. I have a feeling that that is what is going to happen with AAA and once Tom gets it out of his system, he is either going to be done with music, or go back to blink, assuming Mark and Tom are interested.

Tom has always been very "egotistical" when it comes to his music. Back in the day, he'd say how Blink were the greatest band ever, and that each album would be the best music that you'd ever hear.
I like how he has said that he misses Mark and Travis, that seems like good news, or maybe he is just trying to make the little fanboys not cry over it all.
Only time will tell how the relations are between the guys now, but I think Tom's movie will really help us.

I'll post the article:
Tom Delonge has spoken exclusively to Kerrang! about his new project Angels and Airwaves.
In his first interview since Blink 182 announced in February of this year that they were taking an 'indefinite hiatus', Delonge has revealed how he was inspired to get a new band together while the punk-pop trio were touring Europe at the end of last year, in support of their last self-titled album.
"Just before all the blink 182 **** happened when we were in Europe, i has a really wierd epiphany," Delonge confesses to K!, "My heart was beating about 100 miles a mintue for three weeks straight and it had never happened to me before in my life. I really felt like i'd been touched by something and i felt i was meant to do something massive."
Delonge started working on the fourthcoming Angels And Airwaves album which is expected to be released in April, shortly after blink went on hiatus. Recording took place in the Foo Fighters' Los Angeles studio. "As the new record started coming together, it was so beyond my expectations," he says. "I honestly think that people are going to flip out when they hear this. I'm not even joking right now, it's so good. It's so much better than anything i've ever done and i think people will suspect God came down and wrote half of it!"
"It sounds like it has the conceptual depth of Pink Floys, the anthemic architecture of U2 but with Tom from blink writing all the melodies," Delonge adds. "All the songs are very cinematic, anthemic and epic-sounding. The music sounds angelic. Every song gives you the chills and you feel like you want to cry but you're conquering the world at the same time. It sounds like stadium rock done by a band that's meant to be the absolute biggest band in the world."
Angels and Airwaves also includes guitarist David Kennedy (Boxcar Racer/Hazen Street) and drummer Atom Willard (Rocket From the Crypt/ The Offspring). At the time of the interview, Delonge couldn't announce the name of the bassist, but internet reports last week stated that Ryan Sinn formerly of The Distillers, has joined AAA.
A DVD is also currently being made, which will accompany the band's forthcoming debut album.
"The movie is a third documentary, a third love story and a third CGI," he explains."It's the story of the album, which is the story of the break-up of one of the biggest bands in the world and the creation of the world's greatest band.
"We're currently making the CGI sequences and we're working with one of the leading art supervisors of 'Star Wars'. It's incredible stuff," Delonge adds. "The documentary part is about me, my life and creating the new band and the love story is about a girl that's on drugs and a guy that's running from his life and they come in contact with the music and it changes them. The whole idea is that even though there is struggle in your life you can find happiness and love within the worst of times."
The frontman is feeling extremely confident about his new band's potential, even going as far to suggest that his former bandmates, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker, who have formed a new band called Plus 44 together, will be disgruntled when they hear the album.
"When i sat around planning this, i thought, 'Not only am i going to be back but i'm going to be about 10 times bigger that i ever was. I feel like there's nothing that can stop me," he says. "All the bands say that they're going to be the biggest band in the world but no-one has any idea what i'm doing. Once they find out, they're all going to say, '****, ****! We've got a lot of work to do. When this band lands on the world next year, it's going to be like the second coming of Christ!"
"I always though Blink 182 was my life but i've realised that it wasn't, it was just the first stepping stone," Delonge admits "I've heard Plus 44 and it's totally different to what I'm doing. They (Hoppus and Barker) are amazing musicians but i wouldn't want to be in their situation when this record comes out next year. That's how confident i am about this."

I'm excited, I know that it's not going to be the best album ever, but I think it will be farily decent. Also, knowing Plus 44 is having a cd and a greatest hits cd all to look forward. And I think Mark and Tom are talking and I really don't think Blink 182 is going to join back together.

Yeah, I've got 3 things to look forward to. Man, Tom is really confident about the album. I was suprised when he said, I wouldn't want to be Mark or Travis when this album comes out.

Oh yeah. I honeslty cant belive how confident he is. He wont go back to blink after it.

That article really gives the impression that his ego has grown in size since Blink. He's overconfident I think. It may be a really great album but he talks it up way too much.
amen this better be ****ing good..... how his described ive never heard music like it so im really really curios..... as far as im concered the way his talked it up may get him alot more record sales cause people are so curios

I don't know. I'm not really extremely omega excited about either, but I'd say I want to hear AVA, because the movie will tell us stuff about the Blink Hiatus, and Tom is singing, whereas Mark may not sing at all in Plus44.

Wish I didn't have dial up, it's easier to download the song than to try and listen to it with all that **** buffering.
