I refuse to pay over $10 for a CD, new or used.
I would be rather thrilled to find a CD I wanted for (the equivalent of) $10. I don't have a specific rule, though I rarely buy something for more than £10 unless it's a new release that I really want. But then I don't often buy used CDs either.

My CD shop sells nearly all new cd's for 12.99, which is really annoying. Ever Emperor album they have costs 12.99, so it takes me longer to build up collections of new cd's.
Then again, the second hand section rules.
Morpheus: I've seen an agent punched through a concrete wall. Men have emptied entire clips at them and hit nothing but air, yet their strength and their speed are still based in a world that is built on rules. Because of that, they will never be as strong or as fast as you can be.

If Dredg doesn't get big by the time they put out a new album, then something is wrong with mtv listeners. (not that there isn't already something wrong. But it's not their fault. They just don't have the passion to explore further in music.)
I really don't want them to get big, I love them too much. :(

I know, they're right on the edge of a jump to mainsteam, and I want to help them be well known on this forum...despite my other one or two threads I've made about them previously :D
I'm only worried about them getting too big so that it's hard to get into shows. Luckily i already have my ticket for the show, and after visiting their site, I found out before the concet they'll have an acoustic set at a record store. I'm sooo psyched.
Mekkalayakay
07-26-2005, 12:40 AM
The only reason I don't want them getting big is because they'll get overplayed. :-/ Because a band like that is a hit or miss. If they go big, they are going to go REALLY BIG. (catchiest song writing, it beats anything in the mainstream current day)

But I don't listen to the radio or watch mtv either, but I get the kids at my school who constantly talk about them being gods, always playing it in their cd players, and we have music on in the halls when we walk to class, so I will bet we'll get that constantly too. :upset:
Maybe that's a reason I started getting into the underground scene. :-*

I just find it sad how the word "mainstream" is such a turn off to a ton of people at this site. I listen to stuff that nobody even on this forum knows about, and I also listen to stuff that just about every 14 year-old has heard about.

Well the genre is alternative progresive. It's a very melodic band and very catchy. I'd start with El Cielo or Catch Without Arms album wise, as they are easier to get into. However, it's a band best listened to in albums, not singles. If you must do singles though, best choices are Of the Room, Sang Real, Ode to the Sun, or Symbol Song.

Yeah, I am like that too, though not too much with the bands no one else here knows, and most of those are local. I'm pretty mainstream though, as far as it goes. I don't really care though, good music is good music.

Now that I'm sure you've listened to the song on my profile, I'm going to edit the link out of my post. :p
Guys, I just realized something. I just posted this in Politics.
The United States is a nation that contains a populace whom elects leaders based on criteria such as this:
"I don't like the way Kerry talks; he's too intellectual."
"For whatever lapses Bush has made in terms of policy, he's strong on morals."
"Bush does what he thinks is right, and I admire that even if I don't agree with him."
The United States is a nation that commands an unprecedented degree of control over world events. The United States is a nation with easily the capacity to assist the world's needy and to do more than anyone else to assist in the furthering of peace and prosperity in the whole of the rest of the world.
Surely it is a sign of a truly ignorant, selfish and spoiled populace that we elect leaders not just of the country but of the world based on the fact that one of the candidates uses too many big words that they're too half-witted to understand, whereas the blunt, bumbling, stubborn and self-righteous man who makes mistakes but insists on his good intentions in making them is the man to be respected and awarded office.
I'm truly frightened for the future. I don't even care that the public is stupid enough to elect Bush so much am I terrified that the public can have full knowledge of his criminal use of his office and not lift a finger to stop him. Somehow it's as if having deception exposed reduces our desire to stop being decieved. One must be a good deciever like Nixon to incur the public's wrath. And you know why? Apathy.
"Bush should fire Rove! He's clearly behaved criminally?"
All it takes is for someone to say "Bush will never fire Rove. He didn't fire Rumsfeld, after all," to make this person say "Yeah, you're right, what's the use?"
Sooner or later, the more we let life just go on in the face of such ridiculous corruption means that our life as we know it will be ruined beyond repair. And I'm terrified that we will see some vast repercussions in the three long years that we have Bush for still.

See I disagree with Bush strongly about gay marriage and stem cell research (I don't know his full stance on this, but I'm thinking he's way against it because every child deserves to live? yes? I'm quite sure);
But as far as gay marriage, I am kind of apathetic about it at the moment. Of course they deserve their rights, they are normal people, but even if nothing gets passed in Bush's term, you've got to think it through. It will get passed eventually anyway. All of it. I know this is a very negative/strange attitude towards the subject, but the nation isn't exactly in the perfect stance to convert yet. (in my opinion)
I'm thinking of not before, everything gay marriage/adoption will be passed within the 08'ers term.

If a female friend of mine got pregnany, and asked me for advice, and it was way too late for the Morning After Pill, (not that they would ask me for advice; none of them know I have a serious side and they all think I'd be like 'HAHA JU GOT FUKKED LOL CAN I FUKK') I would not suggest abortion.
But, outlawing it seems illogical. If you're outlawing abortion, why not outlaw other birth control? And if you're outlawing the Pill, why not outlaw masturbation, since those sperms released when you climax are killed?

Most people have heard them/heard of them, they are quite a mainstream band (i say most because MXican thought someone was talking about the datsuns when they were mentioned.)
Maybe we should look outside R&M if we want to do these threads, try and get something going where we look at really obscure bands that fuse rock/metal with other genres, take alec empire for instance, he fuses dance/industrial stuff with metal. Have people heard of him? Probably not, so it would be good to educate people. I just have the feeling that sometime soon someone will do a thread on metallica or slipknot :(

Tough call. More in pop-punk right now, but probably here more overall. I'm more knowledgeable about this style of music, though I'm always expanding and learning. Just got into Alkaline Trio the other day :)
I just noticed I missed my 14k post :-\
I do on my laptop, but I won't have access to the internet with my laptop until I'm at school.
I have lots of indie music on the laptop actually, depending on what kind you wanted, and when I'm at school I'll have super high speed internet too, if you wanted to wait like a month to put it up, though we could begin work earlier on it to make it really comprehensive.
That would be cool.
We should probably try and find songs that have rock/metal elements in them, so that people don't just shrug them off.

I can't believe you only just got into them, they have been one of my favourite bands for the last 6 months.
Do you have Good Mourning ?
Well my gf is trying to get me into them since we're going to the concert together THursday. Basically I want to go for Rise Against, and she wants to go for Alk3, so we're introducing each other to the other band. SO she made me a CD mix, but it's comprised mostly of Goddamnit and Good Mourning. :)That would be cool.

Yeah, a lot of indie I listen to is pretty rock oriented, so I know some good ones. Kashmir's a great one off the top of my head.

OK guys so I said I had decided to do a thread on Insomnium. I found tons of info on the bands website and on an additional source. I'm editing what I put together now. In a few minutes I'll start uploads and after those are done, i'll make my thread. I have to narrow down some bands to put on my poll for next week's thread but that shouldn't take long either. Watch for my thread in about an hour or so.

And making cynical comments of course.

So today I received my Zoom 506 Bass Multi Effects Processor in the post. I got it off e-bay for 20 pounds and it came in 2 days. I unfortunately can't find any form of 9v batteries and it did not come with the power lead. I am not spending 3.99 for a battery down at the co-op. So even though I can not use my pedal I am quite happy and am listening to Queens of the Stone Age excessively loud. How goes it for everyone?
