I actually hate the song Paranoid.
I can't stand it anymore due to over playing in my first band...Dio does a good job singing it on Live Evil though.
RMOTM/NRMOTM: July beginnings (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=369708)
I expect it to be substantially difficult to nominate this time around, even though Bobo, Cain, Lunch, Moses, and plenty of others have threadstarted well or have otherwise been positive contributors this month.

Hello everyone. I have tried to be on self-imposed exile from the internet (except e-mail and ESPN.com) but obviously I've failed.
Right now it's 104 degrees in Chicago.
I'm gonna repeat that: it's 104 degrees in Chicago. Absolutely mind-blowing...I don't think I've ever been anywhere this hot. Thank god for central air.
The Red Sox are in town playing the White Sox, and we (me, my aunt and uncle, four cousins, and their friends) all went to the game on Thursday, a very satisfying 6-5 Red Sox win on a 9th inning Manny Ramirez homer (one pitch after he hit a foul popup that Joe Crede dropped). Right now the White Sox are beating the Sox 5-2 and I have to deal with the worst broadcasting team in baseball (Ken "Hawk" Harrelson and Darren "DJ" Jackson for the White Sox) rip on the freaking defending champs, saying "I definitely wouldn't mind matching up against the Red Sox in the playoffs, we're just a better team", then listed a bunch of facets where the ChiSox are supposedly better than the BoSox, including "situational hitting".
Um...hello?
The four guys who delivered the biggest hits for the BoSox last postseason (Papi, Manny, Damon, and Trot) are all still on the team! Who would you rather have up in the 9th in a must-win situation: Paul Konerko or David Ortiz? Unbelievable. What a bunch of tards.
But I'm having a good time. There's actually something kind of innocent about the city, even if just a week ago one of my cousins was talking about how one of her friends got mugged while walking a girl home. And everyone here (my family and most of the people here in general) seem perpetually happy. Kind of odd.

So the people who posted in there moved to another car forum, and invaded their GD forum. My boyfriend joined that forum, and I signed up with him as a joke. Well, one thread was about being "pussy-whipped" and Drew happened to post in it saying, "it's so easy to become pussy-whipped, because without it, theres no heterosexual sex!"
Well I saw this, and got pretty pissed off and told him he shouldnt joke about things like that. He apologized by POSTING A POST IN THAT THREAD giving an apology. I was like, "WTF drew? Seriously don't post crap like that for people to see? Why couldnt you of just told me all of that?" and he felt really bad, and apologized, but Im still kind of upset over it. I know it's a joke and its harmless, but god. It just totally rubbed me the wrong way.

How do EP and LP and all those differ from eachother?
Dr. Jake Destructo
07-24-2005, 10:14 PM
EP- Extended Play- More like a demo, typically fewer songs, in the 30 minute range
LP- Long Play- Full album, obviously usually longer than an EP.
There are no definite borderlines, but that's the basic gist of them.
@Bart below-What was that aimed at?
Bartender
07-24-2005, 10:15 PM
An LP is a long-player, or a full length album, while an EP is a release of (usually) four or five songs (or at least less than a full album in minutes, though that's not always the case), often released to fill the gap in between LP releases, though also released for no particular reason like that. EP stands for extended play.
EDIT: Yeah.
Why?

@Bart below-What was that aimed at?
It was aimed at his original question. I was just too slow.
This actually reminds me of something I read recently, where someone said that he felt the art of the EP was lost, or in the process of being lost, at least. I disagreed; I really like EPs whne they're done right, and on reading thing I checked my collection and found I own a fair few, and a lot of them are from within the last five years, for example. No real point in saying this, but I thought I would anyway.

Kind of a weird choice, but okay. Not like I can afford to go to Ozzfest anyway.
The response of fans though is bullshit. These people need to get the hell over themselves. If I ever do make it to Ozzfest and see one of these little pukes booing or throwing things at a band they don't think is metal enough (or whatever their logic is), their *** is going to become very intimate with the treads in my boots.
Watch her get on stage in full corpse paint and let out this blood curdling scream.

I went to the bus stop to go to work. There were two ghetto-dressed black guys a couple years older than me sitting there. So I sit down and the guys talking to me and he's like "you got a score on you?" and I'm like I don't smoke. He askes you got any weed on you? and I'm like no man. The other guy asks if I'm payin' for the bus and I say "yeah". He asks if I wanna buy a ticket and I'm like sure. So I get the ticket and that's how they figure out if I got money on me even though I only had like fifty cents left. He was like "have you ever been jumped before?" and I'm like "yeah" he's like "have you ever been robbed before?" and I'm like no and "he's like this is your first time how do you feel?". I stand up and I'm like "come on man you don't wanna do that". He throws his fist up to punch me in the stomach thinking I won't do **** back. I then punch him square in the face twice, really good. The other guy tries to put me in a full nelson and I elbowed him in the face. There was a little more scuffleing and I got hit on top of the head twice and then I was like "get the **** back bitch" And I hit one guy and push the other guy off of me. Then they looked at eachother and split. That's the second time I got jumped.
On top of that I had a headache and a stomach ache and was argueing with my girlfriend a few minutes before that online.

Hey all. I just got back from 11 hours of talking to Japanese people. This job is harder than I thought! It is so mentally draining, having to puzzle out what these people are saying, since most of them can speak only poor English (they are here to learn). Also, I have to ask them questions, to encourage them to speak English, which means I end up feeling braindead after wracking my brains for questions.
On the plus side, I made A$180, and spent most of it on a beach on an island in the Great Barrier Reef.

I also didn't manage to find the final parts for my friend's brithday present. So this'll take some careful explaining along the lines of "I haven't finished your present yet so you'll have to wait".
good work ali- sound of perseverance is a great album
Yeah, I know. It only took me so long to get around to buying it becuase I never set out to buy certain CDs, I just buy from what's there.
Out of interest, are you applying to Edinburgh Uni?
I hate expensive cds.
Good show on the cheap ones.
I might be able to get Agent Orange - Sonic Snake Session on ebay for £3.00 including P&P
I hate expensive CDs as well, but sometimes they just have to be bought.
That's pretty decent for £3.00. I think the last CD I got for £3.00 from the net was Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds which came from an Amazon sale.

If you end up there I'll point you in the direction of decent CD shops.

I don't have any tiny little friendly music stores that I know about (Newcastle or Leeds). There used to be one I liked going to in South Shields, but it closed down a few years ago. Continued online, but it wasn't the same, and even that closed down eventually, too.
The closest thing I know to a little second hand CD store is in Florida, so obviously I don't visit it often. I've gotten some good deals there though. It sells CDs and "smoking paraphernelia".
So, I'm back from Edinburgh and my trip yielded:
Madness - Our House The Original Songs (£5.99)
Kraftwerk - Trans-European Express (£8.99)
Beck - Mellow Gold (£6.99)
Juno Reactor - Labyrinth (£10.00 :()
Death - The Sound Of Perserverance (£12.00 :()
Surprisingly little, seeing as how you had something like £500 to go in with. Some good stuff there, though.

You guys don't have one around campus? THe one I usually go to is right on the actual campus of my university. Really great prices too, I usually spend 2-4 pounds per CD (Roughly I think). I even get a discount for being a frequent shopper :)
Well, he didn't spend it all either :p Buying 6 CDs for 500 pounds would be insane.

Edinburgh is great for shopping because it has Head Music- Second Hand Store, two Avalanches - Good quality with second hand sections and an amzing sale on right now, Two Fopps - Have Brilliant £5.00 Deals, Two HMVs, and a Virgin all centred around the centre :)

Oh, there used to be a guy who set up a stall right inside the Student union every other day (at least once a week, anyway). It was a novelty to me, and he almost always had some good stuff, so I bought a lot of CDs (basically spent whatever money I had available whenever I checked the stall) from him in my first few months at university. He even started giving me discounts, which was very cool.
But then he stopped setting up so often. Stopped being a few times a week, and became just once a week (every Wednesday, I think). I kept buying stuff from him whenever my schedule led me into Uni on a Wednesday, but eventually he just stopped coming. Didn't see him at all for the last few months I was there.

recording vocals is more difficult than it seems, I am taking alot of takes to try and get this right, it might however be due to the suckiness of my mic, my voice seems not to be coming through properly and seems to be inaudible sometimes

I can see doing that. I've figured out the rasp part, but it's just too difficult to keep the phlegmy tone out of my throat. I thought my tone was okay, but lately it's just been really bad. I've switched to trying more Jon Oliva and Dio-esque vocals and that's going much better.

The vocals do take some getting used to, true. Of course the same can be said of any extreme metal vocalist. I remember when I frist heard Celtic Frost. I thought Tom Warrior was ridiculous.
