Med repped me for my Tarot thread back in May. After that, Bartender negged me for the double post I also got banned for. And Trilemma negged me during his period of unprofessionalism.
Other than that, I seem to go underneath the radar more often than not. I don't know.

Meh, maybe I'm hallucinating.
Not that I know of.
Frankly, I don't see why we have the whole system. It doesn't accomplish much at all.
Take a look at me. I'm one of the most prominent regulars around here, have my weekly spotlight threads going, have helped out a fair share of newbies, and put all the fools and trolls in their place at every opportunity. But so far I've only accumulated 3 rep. Ken just gave a little spiel about how he reps people that tell newbies to read the rules when they make an illegal thread, but this is news to me. On more than one occassion, I've produced a thread, an own, or a bit of useful guidance that I was particularly proud of, and didn't get a bit of rep for it.
So I just stopped caring. The system ultimately accomplishes next to nothing, and there's no way the mods can be everywhere to properly distribute rep fairly.
Didn't you used to have like 3 stars Steerpike?
Four actually. That was the highest you could go without becoming a mod.
Yeah, the system is kinda stupid.

Here's my opinion on rep:
Who gives a crap? It's an INTERNET FORUM, for crap's sake. Nobody's gonna care that you "have 4 stars" or "3 bazillion rep points" in the real world.
Rep doesn't really serve any purpose except for having people bitch about how little they have.
And no, none of you in this thread do it...I've seen others do it though.
My 2 cents...

Back when rep could be given by anybody, I kind of liked it. I could actually see where I was making a difference.
Sure it's an internet forum, but it's still a group of people, a community. And one that I'm happy to be a part of. It felt pretty good to know my efforts were appreciated.
Now, it doesn't really seem like there's too much of a point.

Ive met many brits since ive been over here in Europe, and it is more or less just a different mentality. The british people just take situations in a different way than Americans (or even Germans) do because of the way their lives are from day to day.
Still, you have to give credit to the Brits for putting up with that.

I do not want to start a political argument at all (being as i am one of the "assholes" that voted for bush), but ill make a very good analogy to state my opinion on this:
You are a huge baseball fan, your favorite team makes it to the world series, and gets beaten, just barely, like it made it to game 7 and the 15th inning, are you going to hate baseball now because you didnt win, even though there is always next time?

I get that a lot. Problem is, American culture has become so powerfully stereotyped, that when someone like me comes along, people have a hard time believing I was born and raised in America.
As I said, the problem is that the stereotypes have become international. More so than any other country, America is the most stereotyped. I remember a while ago in a political debate about foreign policy, one guy commented, "We don't need the French to paint us as a bunch of cowboys."
To which I replied, "You're right. We've already done a fine enough job of that ourselves."

2/3rds of the country is over-weight, our media negatively reinforces an ideal of "get rich or die trying," and partisan politics is becoming our most distinguishing characteristic more and more with each year.
I'd rather live in Europe than America...simply because America's ugly. It's completely built up, and there's almost NO nature here...
Around NYC, anyway...
It's actually quite beautiful and serene where I live. It is slowly becoming more industrialized though.

True. Our problem is pandering politicians and a greedy media negatively reinforcing counterproductive attitudes and ideals.
America has its good groups and people. We're the hub of most counterculture in the last century, and we've made great cultural and technological contributions such as television, jazz music, air travel, and so on.
But we also have a side which I feel that I as an American should be apologizing to the rest of the world for. The Bible Belt, redneck regressive ideology, modern-day robber barons... the list goes on.
But yes, the nationalism is sickening. It saved Bush's *** and gave him the support to start an unjustified war.
"Let's fool the whole country into believing that Al Qaeda hails from Iraq".
No argument here. I didn't want this war any more than the rest of the world. It was made under false-pretenses and was purely to promote the agenda of the administration and the wealthy elite who stood to profit from it.
well, didn't they try to get Osama, but they couldn't find him?
Pretty much.
My personal belief is that the administration wants to turn Osama into a bogeyman the likes of which hasn't been since Spartacus. So in reality, they're using just enough effort to catch him that he can still easily get away, but the rest of the world thinks we're trying.
I dunno, I'd say leave Korea be. I don't think it's a good idea to attack someone with nuclear missles because it just gives them a reason to use them.
That's exactly why we won't attack North Korea. Because unlike Afghanistan and Iraq, North Korea can actually hit us back.
The president is not the war hero he wants us to think he is. He's just an overblown schoolyard bully.

Ok, so last night I had a great time, people. My girlfriend and I went to the local show (you people would call it a fairground), and we were determined to have a good time despite the freezing weather and torrential rain.
So, we started out looking at all the exhibits (pottery, craft, horticulture, art) and ended up being shocked at the photography results. My girlfriend competed in the 15-19 years catergory, and the rules stipulate it must be an unaltered photo of any subject. Well, she got third for the photo of me shirtless, but the winner (and 2nd place winner) was one Johnathon Beecham, who had two of the shittiest, digitally altered (it looks like the guy was using photoshop for the first time, with his eyes closed, and then took a dump on the final product) photos I have ever seen. They were printed out on normal paper, so looked even shittier in comparison to the other photos.
However, a little research shows me that Johnathon (and his sister Mary, who incidentally took all the honours in her section of 14 and under, with some equally crap photos) are the new Show President's (Mark Beecham) children. Looks like the judges wanted to curry favour with him, and thus keep their cushy payed work.
However, the rest of our night was excellent. We watched the wood-chopping, the equestrian events, the pole-climbing, and a rather annoying clown. We also had a "bomb threat", where a lady sitting to my right stood up and left, leaving a rather large bag behind. A concerned citizen must have glanced at it also, and rushed off to the police, who returned, called in the "bomb", failed to clear the area, and then opened it up to reveal..... clothes! :)
We also went to the Animal Farm, petted the Alpacas, Camels, Longhorns and even the cutest litter of puppies you have ever seen.
After that, we decided to head home, since it was raining like the heavens were flooded. We're planning on going on the rides tonight.
Oh, and the food was great. I ate chips, hot dogs, hot cinammon donuts, peanut and honeycomb brittle, fresh lemonade... wonderful. :D

After checking my Audioscrobbler, I see that Pink Floyd is at 512, and The Beatles at about 370. Later, when I checked it again, the Beatles jumped to 523, taking the lead by 5!
That means I listened to 150 Beatles songs last night while I was sleeping.
/good story
That happens to me alot. :\
I always fall asleep with a few songs set on repeat, then it messes up my scrobbler, oh well.

It's in Castle Rock, which is about 30 minutes south of where we currently live (in Denver's suburbs), so it's a little bit out there...but it's twice the size of our current house, so it's a trade off.

Hello all. I've missed you, Vince. You don't know me, though.
I'm about to make a banging cool thread.
So i just finished playing AIM truth or dare with two female friends, both 14, (I'm 15), and I must say it was interesting. All of our parents were home, so we didn't take it very far, but I ultimately had to do several things, such as hit on my brother, make out with a picture of the bassist in My Chemical Romance, and jerk off while saying "I'm one dirty slut!"
I like calling you 'Christian', slug.
I've only fallen to sleep listening to radiohead. Not because it's boring, but because it's mellow and relaxing.

Late reply, but thats my second faverouite album. I really like Temple Of Shadows because of the free DVD of the Rebirth tour i got with it, and the drums are so tight on Temple Of Shadows. I also like the idea of the Conquest Knight thing they have going on on that album.
Heroes of Sand used to be my faverouite song, but now i probably prefer Temple of Hate, Acid Rain or Spread Your Fire.
Great band.

GO is male, I think.
Also, it is rather funny that you do AIM truth or dare, but have no proof of performing the dares. :p
So, I just got back from our second visit to the show. It was quite fun. We ate tons of fairy floss and chips, and went on 5 rides. A ferris wheel (slightly hampered by the freezing wind), three really fast rides designed to make you throw up, and then a chair-o-plane.
My favourite ride was one called The Hurricane, which involves you going up and down very fast whilst speeding around in a circle. You can feel your stomach in your throat the entire time. There was also a ride called the Breakdance, which tries to approximate the strain you put on your neck when you headbang for 6 hours without stopping. Fun though.
However, not 2 hours after we left the show, torrential rains and gale-force winds set in. What a lovely winter storm. So, if you were coming to visit me in the next week or so ;) we can't go to the reef. Sorry.
so, me is back from my hiking trip, it was pretty damn good. the scenery and weather were great, and so was the food at the hostels we stopped at :) and i got to visit 3 countries, France Italy and Switzerland, which was pretty cool.
the only bad thing is that even after walking 125 miles in 10 days and climbing a total of 42000 feet i still have a beer belly :(

I'd rather live in Europe than America...simply because America's ugly. It's completely built up, and there's almost NO nature here...
Around NYC, anyway...
Ive seen a fair bit of the US, and it really isnt an ugly country, but since i live around NYC (from jersey obviously), i will agree that area is not a very nature-y or beautiful part of the county.
Personally i dont think I could live in Europe full time, after having been here a year, there are just a few things that dont work for me, such as the hours offices and businesses are open here, and nothing being open on sunday and what not.
Lots of people think America is a country full of fat, greedy bastards.
Sad thing is, lots of us are...
Once again, thats mostly just the northeast, and the chicago area haha.
Actually, here in Canada, the stereotype is that American's are complete idiots who:
a)know nothing about anything except America
b)brag about how powerful America is
c)know absoluty nothing about Canada, and make stupid stereotypes about us constantly
d)all of the above
E: canadians are idiots who say "aboot" and dont diserve to border america
Actually i really like canada, once again i dont think i could ever really live there, but i have been to Toronto quite a few times, and it is great.
I think we call it an antenna
Correct, and if you do ever want to come to europe you should become well versed in British english terms, so as not to cause confusion. For example, you dont want to go to the UK and use the term "fanny" to refer to someones rear end
I don't understand.
Well it all depends on if you actually understand baseball or not, considering that the original analogy was directed towards americans, i felt it was good enough. Basically the analogy is you like a certain sports team, said team makes it to the finals of whatever sport they play, and that team just barely loses (in this case referencing the very close last two elections, where the democrats only lost by a hair), even though they can try again in the next year (or election year in this case), you wouldnt necessarily stop liking the sports team or the sport entirely, whereas many Democrats, or people who voted against bush (there are third parties, obviously) are starting to be hellbent against the american government and society.
greek people are everywhere. Half of Justin's (NJMetalMeister) family is greek too :D
Yep, and last night we went to this local Gyros shop near the dorms here and they always give you a free shot of ouzo, gave them a nice Opa! and they loved it. Greek hospitality is amazing, just so you know.
Also, I have to agree that Alex is the most European American I have ever met.
What about me? Then again I am like european by osmosis now after having lived here for a while. And also now i talk in Irish/UK slang all the time thanks to my friends out here, gonna confuse a lot of people when i get home. For example i was on the phone with my mother the other day and i used the phrase "Taking the piss" and she didnt understand at all.

It's not really a perfect analogy though, is it? Since the reason people are despairing of the system isn't just because they lost, it's because as they saw it they lost in an unfair election. Just like baseball fans may go off baseball if their favourite team keeps losing because the opposition is allowed to pitch beachballs at them, or something. I'm sorry, I've not been to many baseball games.

 Jake is an aggressive fellow.
I find maiden repetitive, and I think Jack white is semi-talented (though most white stripe stuff is awful). I think in a different blues-based band he would shine more...But I obviously wouldn't use the terms above, and i don't really think maiden are really image conscious atall, all the artwork stuff is just playfull i think.

Well you could go for the cheap shots like saying, "All about image? That's interesting coming from a guy who listens to a group in which the drummer's claim to fame is not wearing a bra."
You could also point out that by saying Iron Maiden is repetitive, he has likely never heard an entire album by them. Another argument you could use is that while Bruce combines classical and theatrical singing styles with metal and Dave, Adrian, and Janick blend the best of speed metal, classical influences, and bluesy emotion, all Jack White does is produce radio-friendly riffs that match the vocal melody.
