Thanks. Too bad only five people bothered to post in it :upset:

Heh, poor Madey. One time I got one of those things, but it was a form I had to fill out. It was total giveaway questions, like "Who is your current crush?" and "What's your favorite day?" and so on and so forth. Whoever truthfully answers those things and doesn't expect a prank is dumb as a rock.

Later: surprise! You just got e-punk'd. [so-and-so] knows that your secret crush is [this person], and that you're going to go [to this place] for a date after you ask him/her out, and it's all going to happen on [this day]. Don't you feel stupid?!

So, what I do is fill out complete BS answers. It's fun hearing from those people later on.

I'm just disappointed. Yeah, I wrote a bit, but not as much as I do for my reviews. I think people so desperately wanted to say "tl;dr" but were afraid that Travis' influence spans outside of The Pit or something.

I'll probably wait for munky's and Bartender's customary polite posts, and then let it fall into oblivion. If it doesn't get to a second page, I'm just going to give up on threadstarting in R&M forever or something.

They then see that I am wearing an Opeth shirt, and inform me thatthey saw them at the Sounds Of The Underground Tour and that they were terrible, and the one kid is like "What the **** they're from Sweden. So I was just like "Yes, they are Swedish, woopity doo, that doesn't change the fact that they own all," and the kid is like, "They ****ing blow," and at that point, my friend who works at the store puts in Deliverence and the kids start talking more ****, this time their serious! I've been to Harlem," so Vince tells him "Dude, your a spoiled 12 year old rich kid, and you claim to be a thugg, your so cute," and then they're like "You're gay! Dying your hair black!" I might at Vince has had black hair his entire life. And then out of knowhere some kid tells me, "You look like some kid I know," and I was like "OK then..." and he was like "He's a bitch!" and so I responded, "He must be a handsome bitch if he looks like me," and the little brat is like, "You're gay, why are you judging the way he looks! He's another dude!" and Vince says, "So what he can still say whether he's good looking or not," and the kid asks us, "Are you gay?" and I respond, "Only for you fruitloop," and then they left. We then went to Subway, where they followed us and continued to harrass us, until Ryan told them he knows kickboxing (which was just a ridiculous claim to **** with them), then the one kid was like, "We weren't trying to start anything," so I told the little twat that his stupidity was killing my brain cells, and that he should shut the **** up, they then proceded to run away, the little pussies.

Interesting...

Sounds like fags looking for some fun. Which is what you gave them.

They were seriously some of the dumbest kids ever. Trey said something moderately witty and made the one kid look like a douche in public, and the kid was like my sister tells funnier jokes.... I don't understand dumb people....

Correction, it's going to take a little longer to get the spotlight up. I was almost finished typing it up, when I told the task manager to close my media player because it wasn't responding. In a rather spectacular kamikaze move, it also obliterated my two internet windows and nearly forced my computer into a restart.

So I'm starting from scratch.

How are you guys liking the new season?

wholly disappointed with the new family guys. I would say out of the ones i have seen, maybe 1 is up to regular family guy standards, maybe.

My dad rented Team America the other night and made my grandfather watch it. I walked in during the sex scene, and my grandfather was laughing pretty hard.

yet another reason why trey parker and matt stone are comedic geniuses.

Anyway, I think that Comedy Central Presents is my favorite show atm. It's a good variety of good clean standup, and then a couple guys that get pwn'd by the cuss filter. :p

One of my favorites is actually an odd choice, and one most people havent seen. It is the CCP of Ardal O'Hanlan. Played Father Dougal McGuire in the irish sitcom Father Ted, who also happens to be one of the funniest characters ever made.

Hicks
Bruce
Dangerfield
Kinison
Carlin

I would have to say for me it is, in no particular order: Dangerfield, the dice man, eddie murphy (his standup from the 80s was genius), Carlin, and Steve Martin

Those are my top 5

I agree with all of those except Rock. He's good, but he's not Top 5-good.

I think you're still the person I agree most with on stand-ups, though.

Am I the only person here who isn't a very big fan of Mitch Hedberg? He can be funny, but he isn't a "OMFGZ HE IS THE FUNNIEST GUY EVER!" comic

I'm not that much of a fan of his either. He is good though. On a related note, I do sometimes feel like I'm the only person who can't stand Dane Cook, though.

Has anyone seen that Irish funny man Dylan Moran and his show monster. Thats are bloddy giggles.

Yeah, Dylan Moran's a funny guy. Good stand-up, and Black Books is a great show.

EDIT: Ardal O'Hanlan is good, too.

RE: Harry Potter. I'm a big fan of the books, but not the films. Got the new book this morning, but rather than reading it in one day (or at least one session) like I did with the last one, I forced myself to put it down and spend some time online after the first two chapters.

Wireless modems generally have a problem with maintaining the connection any time the work load surpasses "light."

In other words, the connection dies if you try to do more than look at one medium-traffic sight.

Lord Abortion

Since I'm a history nerd and wasn't allowed to play Doom when I was younger, the obsessively historically accurate World War II first-person shooters have a huge fan in me. The Academy is full of **** anyways.

Sort of like how Raging Bull got robbed in 1980, how Apocalypse Now got robbed in 1979, how The Pianist got robbed in '02, how Taxi Driver got robbed in 1976, and how Scorsese never won Best Director.

And how the movie he was closest to winning it for was that **** sandwich Gangs of New York, and how Forrest Gump beat The Shawshank Redemption for Best Picture in 1994.

I think Black Hawk Down should have won some awards in 2001...probably the most realistic war movie ever...not in terms of how it portrays the events it is based on (I heard it twists them around) but in how it captures combat.

Hell, we could sit here all day and point out what the Academy screwed up.

Anyway, Hotel Rwanda was a very good movie. It's a bit heavyhanded in some parts (but it never claims to be a documentary so it avoids a bullet there), but overall it's great. I really have a hard time believing Million Dollar Baby is better.

Agreed, BHD was definitely one of the most realistic war movies i have ever seen. It was very well done

Why all the abbreviations? Lazy white people :p

Anyway, yeah, Hotel Rwanda was a really good movie...it's only problem is that it is best as a movie about one man (Don Cheadle's character) trying to do too much, trying to do what is best for himself and his family but also trying to do what is best for his country, but sometimes it drifts into a movie that tries to make a political statement (in showing the Western world's unwillingness to help Rwanda). Overall, though, the political statement takes a backseat, so don't make that deter you from seeing it.

I have their album "Epic." As the title indicates, it's quite something. Very unlike other black metal given the very high production value, however. They make me want to check out the Prometheus album by Emperor, because I've heard it's similarly thick and stuff.

Moses
07-17-2005, 12:55 AM
It's so much easier to enjoy black metal with good production, it helps the compositional quality shine through, but the tr00er stuff is good too and I like it more anyway.

Cain
07-17-2005, 01:07 AM
I'm just a fan of thick, ambient production with lots of stuff going on. I never identified with stripped-down, raw sounds. They just aren't musical to me. This is why the indie-rock and grunge stance on reverb has always puzzled me. Like Eddie Vedder has said that he wants to remix "Ten" to take the reverb off it. Why? The reverb makes those songs what they are. The echoes and sustains produced by that effect can elicit a wide range of emotional responses. And so when a band plays out-of-tune and with poor production values, just to make a statement about their musical politics, it's rather transparent and stupid to me.

EDIT: This is not meant as a slight against poorly-produced black metal, or any other music in general. That's just me as a listener.

Moses
07-17-2005, 01:12 AM
I can see what you're saying because with some stuff it's really hard to listen to because of the production. It's almost painful, I'll upload an Ulver song contrasting poor and good production. The song has both sides.

When I started working when i was 17 minimum wage in NJ was $5.15 an hour. Now that it is nearly 5 years later i think it is a whopping 5.75, which really brings down the wages a lot for all other jobs comparitively.

I'm confused.

The only thing I can immediately think I'd like to change (without just trying my whole life again, which would be awesome) is one of my AS choices.

Never heard of him.

Not really surprising, he's English and not really very well-known outside of the UK. I think he's underrated by a lot of people, because his humour isn't ever the political/social commentary-minded stuff that a lot of the best seems to be. His style is a lot more anecdotal; lots of stories and things, kind of like the uncle that won't shut up at a family gathering.

Incidentally, is your user title based on the Stiff Little Fingers song?

one thing i have noticed about vortex after having seen him with dimmu twice, and including the live video clips from him playing with arcturus, he isnt too incredibly accurate live. He doesnt sing out of key, but he doesnt exactly sing the right notes either.

As for vintersorg, from the live borknagar tracks i have heard, and the live otyg album, he is incredibly accurate live, never misses a single note.
