Its a genre of punk fool. :)
Hardcore is a genre in which all of the bands sound EXACTLY the same. meldoic hardcore on the other hand has potential not to suck. I'm going to give it a listen.

Yeh, i don' think we suck. It has clear metal influences (riffing, the fact the solo has a degree of skill), but is still accesible.
I'm 2 minutes into it. Where does the hardcore start? :p

it is indeed a cool song, the chorus is catchy as hell. Still miles away from the stuff I normally listen to.
Hardcore with a little melody, maybe? When I think of hardcore, I think of hard music. yep yep.
It was an alright song. If you were to actually sing, it would be better.
Arucard
07-13-2005, 01:02 PM
No, its basically a harder version of Pop-Punk. The melodic part is used to describe the poppier riffing (see riff at about 43 seconds), and a more accesible sound, without whining vocals and extremly simple riffs and chord progressions.
And :lol: at the vocals remark. Punk music is about agression foo'.
Classic rockers... :lol:

Plain Hardcore I imagine should be something more aggressive with start stop riffage and screamo vocals...Oh wait, isnt it metalcore :confused:

Yes, thats Metalcore.
And RNR : I do sing properly in other songs (will post when they are recorded), but i thought that song required more agression due too :
Speed.
Lyrical Content.
Riffage.
It not being a 'ohh im upset song.'

It depends on who you ask, and what youre looking for as an answer. I will break it down like this.
1) From a technical standpoint, reach the sky are terrible, their drums start to run off time in every song, and the guitars arent that tight
2) Their first couple EPs and first one or two cds (been a while so i dont remember), from a writing standpoint however are brilliant, and the fact that they are totally incompetant musicians can be easily ignored because the writing is so great.
3) after the first couple releases they went total pop punk, with no hints of being hardcore anymore, which i do not enjoy.
Also, since there was the discussion on this page and the previous page about what hardcore is, I will treat you guys and upload an MP3 of my old hardcore band from like 1999.l

07-13-2005, 01:27 PM
No i am not implying you are terrible musicians, but if you listen to some old reach the sky you will notice the style of writing and riffing is very very similar. That is what i meant.
And Stoic, I will be landing back in new jersey at 3:00PM on july the 25th. As long as i get my microphones back from my friend that day, the song should be completed by july the 27th, perhaps the 28th depending on how the jetlag works out for me.

I was in front for every band. I rule you. :thumb:
We were the first people there, front and center for every single band, except Chimaira, I let my good friend go up front cause he likes them more than I do. And during Black Label I went into the pit, but I was upfront for almost all of Lamb of God. Unfortunatly that means I was in front for Norma Jean, Every Time I Die, and Fear Before the March of Flames (who I was booing).
And it was gross cause the singer from All That Remains and Norma Jean came into the crowd right where I was and I got covered in sweat it was disgusting.

Lamb of God

Chimaira

I honestly never saw what was so special about Cliff Burton, and I still think it's funny/fishy that someone with the screenname "Zeppelin_rocks" would vote for him over John Paul Jones. He never wanted to free slaves because if he ordered the emancipation of all slaves he'd lose the support of the border states (Kentucky, Delaware, Missouri, Maryland) and losing them to the Confederacy would be a big blow, and if he lost Maryland then Washington DC would have been captured and the Confederacy probably could have won the war.

That's a disgusting oversimplification. It's true that Abe was reluctant to free the slaves at first, but take it from a diehard Civil War buff: what you say is not accurate at all. The Constitution is not what was being protected: it was the Union itself. He did not make the Emancipation Proclamation as a way to "gain support," as the border Union states of Maryland, Kentucky, Missouri, and eventually West Virginia all had slavery and Lincoln risked having them join the Confederacy in response to the freeing of the slaves. Lincoln did what he did as a result of his newfound conscience and sympathy, in addition to seeing a way to win the war morally over the Confederacy. Not what you said.
Not every president is a George Bush, manipulating values in order to gain a crass personal acquisition. We have some genuinely great men. Lincoln was one them for sure.

Well, I like how you elaborated on what I said (I think he has now been thoroughly pwned), but I don't think West Virginia was a slave state; I believe it broke off from Virginia (a slave state) because of the issue of slavery. I could be wrong though.
In fact, the fourth border state was actually Delaware :eng101:

Do you read college textbooks for fun? Your vocabulary is very.../searches for good word..expansive. :eng101:
All my pretentions to intelligence, wit, and eloquence come from a childhood spent reading "Calvin and Hobbes" and asking what all the words meant. That comic strip is easily responsible for a huge degree of my vocabulary, my ability to think for myself and act independently, and certainly nurtured my creative spirit, because I was basically exactly like Calvin when I was his age (six). I drew pictures constantly and loved dinosaurs, buying book after book and learning all there was to know. I did poor to mediocre in school, because to rephrase what Calvin said, "I went to school, but I never learned what I wanted to know." Homework of all kinds was subordinated to the creative stuff I did on my own, throughout my school career. And along the way, I dealt with periods with not so many friends and periods where I gained them by way of the virtues I had gained by not being spoiled by my parents, shunted into endless sports competition, conforming with a crowd just to make fake friends, etc. Just like Calvin. He only had one true friend, and that was Hobbes. While rambunctious and often irreverent and disobedient, Bill Watterson's depiction of Calvin is as an incredibly profound character who sees into all the good places that really count throughout living life, as opposed to social conformity. And it shaped a lot of my childhood, not in the least because my natural temperament was so like Calvin's in the first place.
I mean, my kindergarten teacher thought I had a social learning disability because I would never do the group-sponsored activities she assigned. I always wanted to be off in the corner reading the picture books about sea life and dinosaurs, or drawing pictures. I did so whether she liked it or not. And so she actually said that I was "special" socially. I wasn't, as it turns out, but hey. That explains that. :)
I kind of went into a lot of detail there. Sorry. :) And no, I don't read college textbooks for fun. I do, however, read books for fun. I should have over 300 books in my room alone by now, I should think.
EDIT: Illmatic, you're right. West Virginia broke off in 1863. My mistake...so what was the other border state? I know there were four. I may be a Civil War buff, but it's been admittedly long since the last time I looked at a book on the subject.

Si, I had an old account which I had around 100 posts with, I used to just read around the forums mostly. RustInPuppets, I merged the two.
I resent that.
Well, what I meant by that was an unhealthy emphasis on winning, competition, from a very early age and not developing other, more creative and useful talents as a result of a childhood where winning was everything not just to my team but also to my parents. I honestly think the childhood sports culture is incredibly unhealthy for kids, the way it's pursued and the way it dominates family life. I would likely never have played guitar, drew, or wrote as much as I did with the time devoted to it that I did if I was one of these soccer stars or basketball stars. I probably would have gotten laid by ninth grade, been more spoiled, had a completely different set of values and would not have the aspirations I'm proud to have today, based on the town cultures I grew up in which celebrated that kind of skill.
I'm not an athlete, simple as that. And I'm eternally grateful to my parents for not insisting that I develop in that direction, instead allowing me to pursue the things that I knew I liked and that I wanted. I love who I am right now and its a direct result of not being involved with what every other kid was involved in. That's just me, not you. :)
EDIT: That's really cool, Bartender. I think you should check it out, unless you're not into that sort of thing. It's also pretty uniquely American in temperament, but the strip only becomes deeper and more intricate the older and wiser you get. The strip has more levels of thought to it than I ever dreamed as a kid.

You've got the opposite of my deal. My parents both teach Tae Kwon Do and they really want me to love it as much as they do. I used to like it; then I found guitar. They don't take no for an answer. It sucks. When I play the athletics I enjoy, they yell at me and say that my knee is going to start acting up again or whatever. Martial arts? Forget it.

I honestly think the childhood sports culture is incredibly unhealthy for kids, the way it's pursued and the way it dominates family life.
I can tell you that from experience. My little league soccer days were a god damn nightmare.

I dunno, I can't explain why I like playing sports, either...it's just the feeling I would get when I set foot on a court or a field along with a team, the thrill of competing...I'm not sure, it's hard to explain. Either you get that spark or you don't. It was just really exciting for me. I loved the atmosphere and I loved the sport(s). It was all so electric and unpredictable, like anything was possible when I was playing. Meh. It's hard for me to put into words.
But I don't think it crippled my development or anything.
Maybe it was just the environment I grew up in. I think I put more pressure on myself than my mom and stepdad did.
I can tell you that from experience. My little league soccer days were a god damn nightmare.
Yeah. I was one of those kids where every single gym class was a ****ing trial-by-fire. I tried my best, but everyone else was just better. I had no real sense of what my body was capable of and wasn't coordinated in using it to perform athletic feats of physical brilliance like other kids.
I consoled myself with the knowledge that everybody I knew that excelled at sports were also elitist, rich assholes.
EDIT: Ray, I was suggesting that given who I am, it would have been bad for me to pursue sports on the obsessive levels my peers did. I'm positive it's good for you, and I'm in no way speaking out against sports in general. I'm sorry if I was lumping you into a category, I didn't mean to. It's just that the environment I grew up in and the way I was raised just didn't fit the athlete mold. I was never a sports hero and I'm glad for it, because I have all other sorts of positive things going for me because I sacrificed a few years of social acceptance, and "coolness." Suddenly, it seemed like people never knew that I was good at drawing, good at writing, good at history, good at guitar, good at a lot of stuff that I mostly cultivated in hermit-like conditions in my room. When I was finally ready to be all social and stuff, I had a lot of self-applied education to fall back on and to stop me from being an arrogant prick. And in my town, sports proficiency = rich, spoiled, elitist prick. So, meh. I just grew up the way I feel I was meant to.
Anyways, I just saw the special edition of "Aliens." It rules so much.

Nowadays it's mainly basketball and baseball, but since it's harder to play pickup baseball, mostly just basketball. I actually do enjoy golf, but I have no idea where to play it--my family can't afford to join a country club.
Next summer I'll probably join a Saturday morning softball league or something.

My problem with gym class was that to these kids, it wasn't just getting together and having a friendly competition. Their idea of fun was based on how violent they could make the game. And being the small, skinny bookworm meant I was everybody's punching bag. I actually got used as a decoy in football sometimes.
When I started taking martial arts, that just made things worse. I didn't want ot fight anybody, but they all wanted ot prove that their "street fighting" was superior in every way to martial arts and wouldn't stop trying to challenge me to fights.
As for the soccer thing... it was the other parents. They were even more viciously competitive than the kids. They would actually have to be pulled off the field by the coach to stop them from screaming at their kids for screwing up a play.

My uncle was in one of those softball leagues. It was pretty sad when I went to his games when I was on vacation...He lives in this white trash/rich white neighborhood, and he's Korean(adopted) and you could really sense the tension between him and his teammates. I wouldn't call it outright racism, but the guys were dicks to him. I guess it was like that for him all his life though...I like him, he's a cool guy. :D

Yeah. The reason I never got into sports was because I never found them fun to play. I took martial arts as well and just got laughed at. I got 'em back though. I kicked this *******'s *** in ninth grade, because I knew how to punch and the only thing fight-starters know how to do is shove. This kid was being an idiot and I got pissed, so I shoved him back (he had started it), and then he pushed me backwards, continuosly. I just reached over his arms and punched him in the side of the head until he quit. I was branded "the ***-kicker" for a day. It was a small victory. :evil:
That poor kid got so unpopular and overweight after I beat him up, though. Apparently the shame of getting whooped by a former social stigmatic like me was too much to bear. :p
I don't know what that had to do with anything, but hey.

I hate going to competitions here. It's not an art anymore; just a business. The judges all know eachother, and give higher scores to the kids from the school of the dude sitting next to them. Our school does really well considering all this, but sometimes it's really hard on them when they know they've done anything right.
I was watching a continuous fight and there was no control whatsoever. The judges were letting the bigger guy beat the living **** out of the smaller guy. They weren't doing anything. :evil: My friends wanted to compete in that; everyone was glad they didn't show up.
:lol: I was standing right on the line of the ring, watching the guys. My mom was freaking out, she thought I was going to get crushed.

/sports and fighting discussion
I've played sports my whole life, and when I can still find them fun while remaining competitive, that just shows sports' longetivity for me personally. Not everyone is into sport, and that's cool. It's just that when you start with soccer and T-ball (:cool:) at age four, and then continuing to play hardball years later, it's just good. And shut the hell up, baseball is indeed a sport. You try hitting a 90mph fastball the other way if you're so doubtful.
And, usually there's a sport for everyone in one way or another, be it contact or non-contact. A majority of the sports I've played growing up are contact sports: baseball, football, wrestling, and basketball. Was colliding with another person in pads at full speed fun? Sure, unless you were on the receiving end :)
Football for me was simple, because I had a simple job: make initial contact and drive the person across from you off the line of scrimmage and on his ***, and on defense, free your hands and find the ball. I didn't have to worry about finding a hole as a back or covering some speedy receiver, I was there to make contact, not pussyfoot around, heh.
Wrestling was absolutely the most exhausting sport I've ever done, because it drains you both mentally and physically. In the span of three short rounds, you have to learn your opponent's strengths and weaknesses while trying to stick with your gameplan. It rivals boxing, except you're making a whole bunch more contact and aerial manuvering than just blasting the person across from you with your fists. Your plan changes in the matter of seconds, depending on how fast/slow, strong/weak the opponent is.
In basketball, all I did was box the other big men out, shoot in the paint, take charges, and get rebounds. I didn't shoot threes. Anything behind the arc? Yeah, it's a miracle if I make one. But it was good.
Sometimes, it feels good to pop someone on the playing field. When I fouled in basketball, I made darn sure it was a hard foul, and not a ticky-tack BS call.
I think the reason why I've essentially enjoyed sports my whole life (aside from the losses, injuries, and horrific memories) is also because I know I'm doing something worthwhile. Yeah, you learn some social skills, and yeah, you have the possibility of making friendships along the way. But when all that and having a competitive drive coalesce together, you usually get something fun.
Again, it doesn't pan out with everyone, but that's just my take on it.
As for fighting, well... I really don't go out looking for fistfights. That's not me. But if I have to defend myself, well, I'll make sure the other person doesn't draw blood. Or something. Heh.

I've never gotten in a fight before. I've never even punched anyone. I'm sure if I tried I could kick someone's *** though. On the last day of school last year I should have kicked everyone's ***, because I hated everyone there. The only reason I didn't was because I was exhuasted and just wanted to go home. Assholes kept hitting me with necklaces and ****, and I should have just busted those mother****ers, but they would have had a 20 against 1 on me. I probably could have handled it if I tried, though, maybe. :amaze: I also knew that the backstabbing bastards would probably tell on me for beating them up, even though they do it all the time. :upset:

And shut the hell up, baseball is indeed a sport.
My theory on weather a sport is a sport has a few parts.
1. Some natural talent is involved, its not something you can just be taught and me amazing at it.
2. You have to be athletic to play it.
3. It has to be you against something, not you against yourself. What I mean by that is that, the opposition can stop you from reaching your goal, its not just you against yourself.
If it passes all those tests it is a sport.
Sooo...
Baseball = Sport
Football = Sport
Hockey = Sport
Basketball = Sport
Tennis = Sport
Soccer = Sport
Golf = Not a Sport
NECKCAR = Not a sport
Bowling = Not a Sport
Pool = Not a Sport
Etc...

Before rep points and the star system became popular and instantly recognizable, there were funny little green and grey dots below everybody's username. Green made "'Ripper22 is on his way to greatness" come up, grey came up with what you've got. Those dots were disabled soon after, but apparently a relic of them still exists. The dots were gone by the time stars showed up.

Why don't they wear underwear? Not even thongs? That's incredible/awesome.
Quick change of topic to the blatantly sexual: if a hint of a thong or some other skimpy underwear is present, is that a turn-on or a turn-off for you guys? Because I don't like it if it's clear the girl is being a slut, but if one of these girls is using it for their subtle sexual attractiveness in addition to practical use, and they genuinely don't seem to see that it's showing a little...man, thongs come right after boobs on the superficial attractiveness scale. IMO of course.

EDIT: Maybe it's because that's where people go to talk genuine trash about other users' conduct. I'm sure the bit about how you "only post here" got you looking even more, in much the same way the Trilemma fiasco had me double checking the pertinent thread once every ten minutes.
Yea, I am sure that has something to do with it. It is also entertaining to see morons that get banned beg for their accounts back.

Really? There's lots of chicks in R&M I thought.
I haven't noticed any. You, and two girls that posted on the Songs You'd Play for a Girl thread. That's about it.
I only know of you and Leah.
:lol: My avatar is so strange.

True, true. :lol:
I personally love watching Subtledagger respond to morons. He's got some of the most classic responses to posts in recent history. My personal favorite is when Rob said that Volumnius Flush asked Burt for sex, and Burt just responds with:
"what"
Imagining the range of vocal inflections that could be used to say that cracks me up.
Oh. Really? I thought there was more. Like Phucked, she's a chick. But she kinda hangs around all the Pit nerds.
There's lots of chicks in the MX Photoalbum, so I assumed a lot of them posted here frequently.
Chris - Your avatar is weird. It reminds me of something that would've come from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Phucked is more of a Pit person, true, but she's very cool from what I've seen. And this girl Heidi, in the guitar forum, she's awesome too: very knowledgeable about guitar and extremely cute too. Unfortunately that quality got her mercilessly sexually harrassed and so she quit posting regularly and I only intermittently see her now.
I only know of you and Leah.
:lol: My avatar is so strange.
...What is it?

There's an MX photoalbum? Sweet.

Yes it is. What is it, by the way? Did you make it?
To Cain: Yea, SD deals with a lot of idiots on a daily basis, I don't know how he stays sane.

I'd assume it's his own perogative. No doubt he enjoys coming up with perfect ownage responses. And they usually are exactly that: perfect ownage.

SubtleDagger.
I'm very bored right now.
Here's something that's been bugging me: what's the difference between a supermod and a local mod, and how do you tell?
And were supermods the only ones provided with rep points? Because Damrod repped me but I got no points, and he's not a supermod. Just curious.
SD = San Diego = SubtleDagger = Burt.
magicbus: answer my question about a page back, please :)

Supers have more power than locals. Damrod repped you for no points because he doesn't mod MX, he mods Sputnik, and that likely means he has no rep points to begin with.
Locals (Maveryck in The Pit, for example) can lock and close threads, but can't ban. Same thing with Strum; that's why he's getting Burt and Joe to ban people for him while he locks threads.
Supers can go to any forum and close anything. That's how Bartender closed Trilemma's thread in Politics.
Agreed. It's good to see he doesn't hold back.

Jake - Forgive me if I'm being totally dense, but were those four stars always there?

I went to Amsterdam and my kid was in the candy store. Seriously, EVERY girl was hot as HELL, and every one of them were showing off very shapely figures. They LOVE thongs there.
EDIT: Leah, don't be silly. You're the person we look to for approval around every thought based around girls here. We need your laughter, your discomfort, and your concessions to keep the conversation going!
Wait.. wait.... you have a kid?
Jake - Forgive me if I'm being totally dense, but were those four stars always there?
Yes. He is a user that retained his four stars through a glitch in the old rep system rather than any sort of extraordinary effort and posting quality to regain them on his part like all of us are having to go through. ;)
Liberi is one of the only people I know of that's succeeded in earning his stars back, from what I've seen.

Could someone explain it to Leah? I've done it like 40 times. :p
Cain- I earned em the first time around. :lol:
Well I just checked out the TE forums to see what all the fuss is about. That place is garbage.
Wait.. wait.... you have a kid?
Kid = penis. Lame metaphor. Not reality. Sorry for any confusion.

By earning you mean...whoring, right?
I mean, I know that those stars were inordinately important to me and I participated in my fair share of Commie Thread rep parties back in the day. And I got a very humorous, bright size 7 yellow rep message from Jom saying the Nacho cheese joke. :lol:

My rep messages owned.
I honestly have no idea. I was just messing around with google's image search and it came up.
My rep messages owned.
They did. :p
Too bad I only ever got one from you!!!!! :mad:
