So right now I am downloading Half Life 2, has anyone played it?

Half life 2 is the most disappointing game i have ever played. So lame. While the phsyics engine is incredible, the game itself is inferior in almost every way to either Farcry or Doom 3. Plus it comes with this thing called Steam, which is the worst **** ever.

Inspired by a conversation in another thread, I'm working on the rules for an R&M video contest. Here's what I've got so far:

1. Only one submission per MXer. Songs may be either original compositions or covers, depending on the individual's preference.
2. Judging will be based on overall musicianship, accuracy of playing, and showmanship.
3. There will be separate rankings for solo acts and for full bands. In other words, there will be a first place for a solo performance, and a first place for a band, along with respective second and third places as well as runners-up.
4. All videos must be shot for this exact purpose only. No concert videos.
5. Recording must be done live. No digital mixing.
6. All videos must be a straight-up performance. I don't care if you can create a music video artistic enough the outstrip Peter Gabriel, that's not what this contest is about.
7. If you are simply voting for your friends, you will be disqualified.

As you can see, there are still a few gaps to fill in, but I should have it ready soon.

That's why I opted to just film a performance.

Directing and editing is time-consuming and the software for the latter is expensive.

Hell, either way, I plan to make a couple of my own music videos and post them here. I won't be performing on them. I'll just be lip-synching to some of the lyrics and might make an appearance or two playing guitar. Otherwise, it's the original recording with my own video work accompanying it.

So far, I've got the work planned for Don't Fear the Reaper by BOC, The Price You Pay by Savatage, and Sweet Miracle by Rush.

I'm lucky that I'm able to write music and lyrics by myself, though I do prefer improv on drums to actually writing it down. I just end up putting in the best stuff I can think up at the time.

Hello, everyone. Excuse me while I catch up with interesting things (or lack thereof, I'll find out over the course of the next ten or fifteen minutes) that have occurred recently in my absence.

So, I just came back from War of the Worlds.

Really didn't like it. I mean, the special effects were top notch, but I can't think of anything else that was worth mentioning that was positive; terrible dialogue, sub-par acting, no build up, and if there was a climax, it was way too late.

Also, how does nearly all of the tri-state area surrounding New York get destroyed [hell, the whole Eastern seaboard], yet an old residential neighborhood in Boston stay well standing? The ending is the worst I've seen in a while.

And the movie is very, very loosely based on the book.

This isn't even comparable to Sin City and Batman Begins.

It's a pity you didn't like it.

I mean, I didn't/haven't see it, but I've read the book and saw the original movie. I had to watch it for my Film and Lit class my sophomore year of high school.

Not only is it generic, but I also have a suspicious feeling that they actually have no clue what they're talking about and just making an image for themselves to sell to a new generation who'll believe anything they say.

This is what I would have said in this situation, heh. I can't imagine Green Day or Simple Plan or whoever else has any idea of what's going on in the world compared to U2's Bono does or Rage Against the Machine did.

I only like a couple songs, to be completely honest. But this is because I haven't heard much from them... just their "biggest" songs, I guess you'd say.

The new July competition is metal covers.

This is another reason why I wish I knew how to record myself.

I'm rather optimistic that this month will be more active and successful than the prog competition. Not to say that last month was horrific, because all [six] entrants were great, but when there's a lot of traffic through this forum and only six people enter (and a slightly larger number vote), that's not fun times, especially for the person running the show.

This is a good idea. Originally, I was hoping for a music video-like contest, where you make a music video behind an original recording... but, duh, whoring your skills would probably be a million times better. Good job.

Well, I could write a really long post about it. It was good, ups and downs though.

I'd have to say that the highlight was standing in line because Therapy? were signing. So when they finally opened the gate for me, my girlfriend and her friend, Andy spotted me, grinned and put up the devilhorns. (\m/) That was an amazing moment, then I went in, got a few pictures taken with us and the guys. I shook their hands and thanked them for the autograph. Andy likes to draw weird faces next to his autograph. Michael said he liked my shirt (Therapy? shirt :p) so I replied "me too :)".

I'll scan it in a minute or so. I don't have the pictures yet.

I nearly broke my comp though, it was balanced precariously and I knocked it off it's perch, it reset itself and the internet connection disapeared, I turned it off and on again and it returned. my plugins to WMP seem to have been disabled, my msn thing aint showing my NP even though it says it is switched on, how do you replace the plugins?

When you switch your computer off without closing WMP it disables all plugins as a precuation in case they caused the computer to shut down.
Go to Tools > Plug ins and just re-select the ones you want.

That's true, but I rarely, if at all, converse with others on MX on a daily basis. How do you guys defeat this? Do I have to re-install?

Hello all. Last night was pretty fun for me. I went to my family's barbecue at 3ish, had some hotdogs and burgers, then went to a friends house at 7. We didn't do much there, but at 10 we went and watched fireworks at our school. Nothing special, just a bunch of sparks and such. After that, we went to another friend's house and I was quite the jackass there. :p First, I touched her electric fence, which hurt. Then I rode her horse bare back. It hurt as well. I went to a party down in southern Maryland last night, about 2 hours away. it was pretty fun, it's weird to see people from high school.

Just got home about an hour ago, and called my girlfriend. She is home from Europe! She told me all about her trip.

Now I'm just chillin, trying to decide if I should go on this trip my mom wants me to go on. It's called Outward Bound, and I would be crew on a ship for 3 weeks.

I went to my aunt's house, she lives about an hour away, and we hung out and ate stuff and blew some **** up. A lot of the fireworks my uncle bought sucked dick, but he did get some good ****. There was one thing he bought called a megatron, practically a goddamned bomb, and it cost like 50 bucks for one, and that was cool. I also snuck a whole bag of his smoke bombs home in my pocket, and those should come in handy when the time is right.

I am incredibaly sore this morning after roofing all day yesterday, which wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I had to do all the grunt work though:/. I got home at about 5 30PM and my mom told me that something was in the car for me. It turned out to be the guitar that I bought 3 weeks ago off of E-bay. And damn is it ever awesome, way better then my crappy little Squire. So overall, yesterday was frucking great :thumb:

I think I figured out the stats required when Jeremy did the rep change- For 3 stars, you needed 5,000 rep points, and more than 1,000 posts. For 4 stars, you needed 5,000 rep points and 3,000 posts. I'm certain on the 3,000 posts, because when I hit that mark, I got 4 stars, and 5,000 rep points seems like a plausible number. :p

AH- Pfft, I'm sure Eleventeen is about to get his any day now. :lol:

That's true, but I rarely, if at all, converse with others on MX on a daily basis. That sounds bad because it sounds like I only talk to people when I want/need something or have a quick question to ask. Of the contacts I have on MSN, I only regularly speak to maybe two or three. For me, it just seems like people are less receptive online than they are through the forums. But that's just me, I guess.

I like IMing people though, but the problem is that my parents are usually around and they are the nosy kind; "who are you talking to?" and if they don't know who I'm talking to: "block them!". At the bottom of your user CP there will be a section showing which post you got repped for, and a message why.

You'll have 10 rep because all new accounts, made from May onwards I think, were automatically credited with 10 rep.

It's only if they sign off the rep. Go to user CP and it will tell you where you were last repped. Once in that thread, find the post where you were repped and see who did it and why. I've never gotten a message.
