Keira Knightley is disgustingly skinny. Bitch needs to eat something.
I used her for my avatar for a little while, actually.

There's just not a whole lot to her. She looks kind of underage/sickly (depends on how you look at it).
Well, she IS only 19
I <3 Leonard Cohen - I just made a five-track upload in the YSI thread. Go check it out :thumb: Ya'll won't be dissapointed.
What kind of music is he?
What kind of music is he?
Folk-rockish. A darker version of Dylan, but with even better lyrics (that's right, a better lyricist than Dylan. Admittedly, Cohen WAS a poet and novelist before he became a folk singer-songwriter).
Ever heard 'Hallelujah' by Jeff Buckley, or the many versions around of the Buckley version of the song? The original (which is very different, but the first two verses are the same, lyrically) was by Cohen.

How is everyone's Tuesday going?
I went to go pick up an album today... and it's in dual disc format, so that's pretty awesome... too bad I don't have a DVD player that plays surround sound, but the DVD part should be interesting, hopefully. Hopefully the CD won't be too bad, even though I had it pre-released before (a)
Uh, yeah, I'll get on uploading that. Remember that you need QuickTime, sorry :(

There are a couple of DVDs available, but they overlap each other. Totally Bill Hicks has his last live performance, in London, and the Just a Ride documentary, which is interesting; talks to his relatives, friends, people he met and worked with (Letterman, Leno, etc), and just various comedians.
There's another called something like Bill Hicks: Satirist, Social Critic, Stand-Up Comedian, which has One Night Stand, Relentless, Revelations and Just A Ride.
And I've seen another around, but I forget the name and what's on it.

All I'm saying is, it's probably justifiable. When you're getting an F in two different classes, that's a crisis zone.
And all he needs to do is get his grades back up anyway, and if it's that early in the grading period, it shouldn't be hard. I'm tired of hearing kids whine about their parents.

Quit acting maudlin about it.
All you have to do is improve your grades. They overreacted and so did you. Life is tough. Deal with it.
My mom did that to me. I was on a field trip sophmore year, and we went to a glacier. This all took place in Norway. On the way back, we had to walk home and we were tired as hell. My friend Ib and I had the bright idea to hitch hike back, so we got ahead of everyone, and when a car came by flagged it down. We hitchiked the 10 miles back to the hotel. We were laughing our assses off thinking we had just done the greatest thing ever, but the school thought other wise :/
My mom pulled me out of school, made me get a job, and wouldn't let me listen to music, talk to anyone, watch TV, or get on the computer. Let's just say my pickle got tickled a few times.

So I need some help guys...I need to find one song that has changed my life for whatever reason, compelling lyrics, fantastic musicianship, anything. The catch for me is it's for show and tell and I want it to be obscure enough no one will have heard it before because, lets face it, hearing a song for the first time is more fantastic than later listens. SO basically I want a song that everyone will enjoy and be blown away by that is still obscure. :)
You want us to pick a song that has changed your life?

Actually, I find hearing a song the second time is the best. Because the first time I get a CD, I listen to it and it kinda blows, then the second time its powerful, then after that its just good.
The song that I would choose is Where I End and You Begin by Radiohead. That song just puts me in a reflective mood, and I can listen to it over and over. The lyrics are beautiful.

Astronmy Domine by Pink Floyd
That song really inspired me to get more intouch with my more creative side. I had been playing the guitar for a couple months before I heard it, and it totally changed the way I play. I now look as my guitar as the keys into a world of expirmentation with endless things that have never been done before.

Then, we're driving to the lake for some awesomeness... so long it doesn't rain. I hope not... I hate driving across the state in bad weather.
On a sidenote, I wish that lots of things besides leaves grew on trees.

No way. Me and my parents have tons of fun at 'the lake.' We bring our boat down to Fishhook resort and I ski, wakeboard, kneeboard, and innertube. It's really quite fun. :p I also pull my dad on skis occaisionally. He's fat, so it's funny.
I heart wakeboarding.
I didn't explain myself properly, then.
Lake Michigan is on the westside of the state, my permanent residence is on the eastside. They have never been to said lake... and the sand is extremely soft and very white, so they just want to drive out there and see it, since it's less than a half-hour away from my uni.
That, and to get away from the shitstorm my roomie is going to thunder up :)

pigonthewing82: IF you like Hicks that much, you have to check out Lenny Bruce (similar to Hicks in terms of dark style, and in terms of overall impact on culture; probably the most culturally important comic in American history, if not world history), George Carlin (could have been more than "just a comic" a la Hicks and Bruce, but got "angry" and turned into a poor man's Sam Kinison), and David Cross (also similar to Hicks in some ways)
Kinison turned to crap too though; I'd say moreso than Carlin. Carlin at least still makes me laugh. Lenny Bruce's later shows lost their sparkle as the years went on (reading his court transcripts on stage, etc), which was something Hicks never had.
The only other person I'd put on a level with Hicks and Lenny Bruce, is Richard Pryor. This moves completely away from political comedy and necessarily intelligent observations, but purely in terms of stand-up comedy brilliance, he's probably the best ever. Hicks had his off-shows (when he went off his head at the audience, usually), and Bruce had his longer, slower decline at the end of his career, but Pryor basically went unchallenged as the greatest until he had to give it up.

That's why Hicks is the best. And I explained my point about Carlin earlier in the thread. Carlin basically moved into being a Kinison-type abrasive comic later in his career, when he was funnier earlier on IMO.

Personally I think that thread is brilliant, you've done a good job with it. Something I was wondering about is what happens if someone keeps appearing in an update, yet doesn't get their request.
ICB, can you link me?

Well, I feel really bad about this, but eventually SOMEONE is going to be able to match their requests. Another option is that once I return to my permanent residence for the summer, I can download the songs and upload them, even though that's going to take awhile since I have a much slower connection there :(

Sad but true, playing guitar will NOT attract girls. Maybe you should take up lead singing instead. Just a thought.
That was one of my favourite bits.

I liked how you said "downpicking" was important, I also like to use downstrokes where possible. For example, playing Master of Puppets at a friends and he was like "Why don't you alternate pick?". I just learnt MOP with downstrokes and played it like that since.

I've always played it that way, I'm assuming that's the correct way because most thrash and old Metallica uses downstrokes and plam muted riffage.

True, if Hetfield plays downstrokes, so will I. It also sounds more "consistent" that way.

I am half Belgian, but I live in England and was born in England.

I learned that song during half term (week of school) and that's all I did for that whole week. It did take me a while to get the stamina to play with the cd, but I managed in the end. For me, the hardest part to learn is the:
|-----2----3
|-0-1--0-1-- etc. you know, at the intro

That was the first song I completely learned. I didn't really have any trouble with it, especially that part during the intro. I guess it mostly has to do with hand-eye coordination.

Yea, that can be tricky. I just had to keep trying it over and over.
