I just realized that in "Ocean's Twelve," when Matt Damon screws up the con offer with George Clooney and Brad Pitt by saying something that he pulled out of his *** to fit with the weird "language" they use to speak to one another, that Damon is actually quoting the lyrics from "Kashmir." An overdose is a crappy way to die. If you really want to go out like a man, botch a bank robbery and get into a gunfight with the police. That way you can cause mucho collateral damage.
Clothes shopping is kinda gay, I have to agree. I just let my mom buy my jeans and I get all my shirts at sports stores and Newbury Comics.

So I was talking to madey online and I brought up my ire about those who would rather be a little kid. Of course, I realize I am biased about this issue; my childhood was rather turbulent, and I am happiest and most secure right now, which is more or less the opposite of everyone else. By the time I hit my teenage years I had already seen the worst and paid my dues. After all, "Am I cool?" and "Does [girl X] like me?" certainly pale in comparison to "Are we going to have the apartment next week?" and "Will we be able to keep the electricity?"
Right now I am experiencing the happiness and stability that most people experience in their childhood.
And of course, losing your father--especially during the period in your life where you think he's the most invincible person on the planet--tends to shatter the innocence of childhood and sour any nostalgia of that period. In terms of my life, I have the greatest luck when it comes to friendship. I recently discovered I have a fantastic girlfriend, two best friends whom have been like brothers since year 1 (14 years ago), and numerous friends who I have known for around 2-3 years who are amongst some of the nicest people on earth. So yeah, no matter how shitty my luck with money or University goes, as long as I have my girl, my friends, and my music, I'm set for life.

Jesus Haploid Christ. I've hit a new low.
I was in a relatively good mood today, so I thought "Well, I'm still single and can't get out as often as I'd like... Just for the hell of it, I'll try an internet dating site. It worked for a couple people I know. It couldn't hurt to try."
Turns out after filling out the personality profile test thing for the past hour, it ultimately told me I'm not inherently compatible with anyone currently registered in the site's database.
This has officially crossed the line into "****ing sad." Or is it "****ing ridiculous?" I can't tell.
You wouldn't want to be matched up with a lot of those people anyway, dude.

I'd think I'd like it being a kid again. I mean, think about how much imagination you had and how much fun you could have with a toy or a film. Sometimes when I find old toys or when I see a film that used to amaze me, I'm often disappointed or a bit sad. You got so much more out of things when you were little.

I disagree. Internet dating, to me, seems a bit awkward/fishy. It's almost like going on a blind date to me. What if you got ten results, let's say, and all ten of them had the opposite temprament, personality, likes/dislikes, etc. as you?
I don't trust computers to make decisions for me, really. At least you're making an effort though. Have confidence that sooner or later something's going to work out for you.
And yes, I realize that this is the Internet telling you what to do, which kind of goes against what I say :-\

They are from Norway, and they have had over time, three of the top metal vocalists of our time as well. Also I would just call them progressive black metal, they really aren't about the atmosphere in their music...
Garm, Vortex and Vintersorg are all who have sang for Borknagar, which is indeed very cool. The only thing that is bad though, the Vortex era Borknagar is kinda boring insturmentally, but Vortex puts on one hell of a vocal performace, but I think the era with Garm (A Tale of Pagan Tongue, is a great song from this era) is the best.

After all, both genres seem to devolve into contests to see who's tougher, who's "truer". Now, I don't know if metal bands hold the same grudges towards each other that rappers do, but from what I've seen it gets this way among metalheads.
Not to mention that acts in both genres tend to get clausterphobically self-serious and self-indulgent.

From what I have seen, either they get along for the most part. Or the bands don't want to get into a big drama fest and keep it out of the music and their news and such, because frankly, I think that would be quite stupid if they were all whiny bitches about each other.
Also, the petty squabbles between metal fans are usually between the open minded people, the just plain stupid people, and the big ol' bad elitests .

I know alot of death metal bands do not take them selves seriously, especially when their content is most gore upon more gore and violence. Also, power metal and serious in the same sentece? Haha, is the thing to be said the least.
But bands in black metal, like the LLN group of french black metal are completely 100% serious about every thing in their music, but that was only 4 bands, and I do believe 3 of them disbanded.

Rap metal has a better ring to it, so RATM is rap metal. :D So is Hed PE. The difference is that Hed sucks, whereas RATM kicks serious US government ***. I finally bought Renegades yesterday. I never really had the urge to purchase because I knew it was an album comprised of covers, but man, I'm surprised at how Rage-anized they made the songs. I'd like to hear the originals just to hear how different RATM made the songs.
I also bought Relationship of Command by At the Drive-in, but I have yet to listen to it. Anyone's thoughts on this album?
Also, what are the 2 live tracks at the end up Renegades? My Media Player didn't come up for a name of the last 2.

Plexi was a former mod, and he was demodded by Jeremy during a period of time on mx where you could log onto a users account without their password. Plex wanted to see if you could hack mods accounts, just to see how secure it was, and you know the policy where if someone tries to enter your account 5 times, you get sent an email saying that someone could possibly be hacking your account or something..well he tried to see if he could get into some girl mods account. I can't remember her name atm.. (He was just testing the system, not actually trying to get in, he says) He actually tried once on 5 different mod accounts, and hers was the 5th, so she got an email, and told Jeremy and he basically demodded Plex on the spot. Jeremy didn't even ask Plex about it or anything...
The wierd thing is that Plex is a wicked good hacker and what not, so don't you think he could have gotten in if he had wanted to with very little effort?
I got all of this from Bartender, so it may be a little inaccurate and/or vague, but that's the general gist of the story.

Oh, **** you, race has nothing to do with it. This has everything to do with how you treat me as a poster and have reduced me to a caricature.
But OK, I guess you're right.

Hey whoever mentioned it, congratulations on getting Relationship of Command! It's a pretty good album if you can get into it. And yeah, Cedric DID sound like Zach De La Rocha a lot. I mean, they're both Hispanic, but that really shouldn't make too much of a difference.
Anyway, nowadays Cedric has refined his voice into a sorta falsetto whine for The Mars Volta. It's much more melodic, but some people don't like high-pitched male voices because they're too protective of their masculinity or something  Oh well, enjoy!

I also like that album Relationship Of Command, it is pretty freakin' interesting and energetic at the same time. I also liked the album In Casino Out, haven't listened to either in awhile, so I think they are going on next, and maybe some Mars Volta tommorrow since they need a playing as well.

Hahaha, well, not everything has to be a gutteral growl. I don't mind higher-register vocals at all. Am I surprised that people can hit that high without squeaking/shrieking/whatever? Yeah, but that's because I can't hit that high. I mean, look at LaBrie. He's classically trained in opera from what I understand. Yeah, in some songs he sounds a bit off-key, but you can't really blame him with his throat damage from the Awake tour (I think). And even albums before that, he could really soar up that register. Geddy Lee, too. He sounds flawless hitting the upper register like that.
I've only heard a couple songs from ATDI, but they're good.
EDIT:
By the way: the lyrics you were citing in the YSI thread are from "Brain Damage" by Pink Floyd :)

Oh, I almost forgot.
A couple days ago I was cleaning the basement of my house and I found my parents' vinyl records. My parents are pretty big music listeners, but there were only about fifty or so records. A lot of stuff I expected: Bob Seger (obviously), Kansas, Boston, Journey, Phil Collins, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, etc. But, there were a couple eyebrow raisers as well, one of them that comes to mind was Lionel Richie. Reason why I say that is because we don't have any CDs of that artist in our house, just on the vinyl.
I dunno, I just thought it was cool. Some of them were unopened, even.

Don't diss my boy L-Rich. Holla.
It's all good, I was just a bit surprised. There were two Richie records, but I can't remember the titles. There were some other miscellaneous records like "A Barbara Streisand Christmas" or something like that, but for obvious reasons I omitted them since they're really not worth the mention.
EDIT:
Oh man, how could I forget The Eagles. They were there too. The most records in the collection was Seger, though

The Eagles are indeed good. And 56K is indeed not.
I have some kind of virus thing on my computer, I think. We have some very odd AV software on the computer now (since I've got back home) apparently; it's fantastic (and really loud) at detecting viruses and telling me about them, but doesn't seem to have any options for actually doing anything to them.

Well mine's 56K and internal, so it's more or less silent. Especially when you have Halfway to Gone playing loudly right beside it.
It's not illegal to actually talk about rock and metal in here, by the way. It's as good for talking about little bits of R&M that don't really need their own threads as it is for non-R&M.

I probably should have included the :p smiley after my sentence, because I was kidding.
But, like clockwork, negative **** sparked up again.
It's all good, though. It's not like this is new.
In other news, when I was working yesterday, there was a new worker there (there are two expediters at the restaurant), and she was a bit clueless.
Needless to say, she wasn't working... period.
The bosses there got pissed because her side got all backed up, so they fired her on the spot
Naturally, this ****ed me over because I had to operate both sides of the kitchen and Thursday nights are extremely busy (coupled with the Pistons game being on, so people like coming in for appetizers and stuff)... it was chaos. Working by myself with the cooks in the kitchen for over five hours was hectic and pretty stressing.
Plus, we had BER yesterday and today, so we had to clean out the entire restaurant to make damn sure that everything was up to snuff and passing.
The positive of that disaster is that I didn't have to split my tips, and I'm $60 richer for one night of work
For the record, I've never seen Napolean Dynamite, nor do I think I will in the near future.

What's an expediter?
That's a shame about that girl, though. I guess she got what she deserved.
I always liked working Friday nights by myself. I would get 40 bucks in tips from the waitresses and I was only a busboy. Quite lucrative to work by yourself, if stressful.

Dude, that unlucky.
Btw, Joe is back for people who cant be bothered to read previous pages.
In a nutshell, the cooks make the food, and the expediters garnish the food and make it look presentable.
Like, burgers are easy, because the cooks make the burger, wrap it, and add fries. All we do is uncrinkle the paper.
But for salads and appetizers, we have to get the dressings, bread, etc.
For soups, we add parsley, green onion, etc. depending on the type of soup. We add the soup spoon and the bread, and we make it presentable (app. plate, doiley, etc.).
We have to call for the soup in the back, and they give it at the last moment (so it stays hot for as long as possible, obvious I know).
So yeah, garnishing and dressings and presentation of food are our jobs. They say that we're the quarterbacks of the restaurant or some crap like that, but the cooks do all the cooking and we just add or modify it.
Like, we have to check to make sure the order is right. If someone orders a chicken fajita salad and they say no peppers, we have to make sure that, duh, there are no peppers in the salad :)
And we have to check the temps of soups, meat, and chicken so that they maintain health standards and stuff to minimize the risk of foodborne illness and all that.
So, again: we make the food look presentable and garnish it if necessary, while cleaning and sanitizing the back of the house and eliminating risks of foodborne illness.

Since I brought up the topic of Napolean Dynamite, back when I was in school (in March lol) that movie was the coolest thing around. My history told me and my buddy that if we learned the dance at the end of the movie, he'd give us 50 points of extra credit. I don't think he thought we would actually learn the entire thing, but we did, and I ended up with a 104% in that class. He later on called me and my friend extra credit whores. Oh, and we had to perform the dance in front of our class. :-/ It wasn't really worth it, because I would have gotten an A in that class anyways.

That sounds like you go through the salad with your hands, to check for peppers. Sorry, just a funny image.

I haven't been to Italy since I was in 2nd grade. I'm in college now, so it was quite awhile ago.

Arrest: I went to Pisa as well. The leaning tower was pretty cool, but I liked the cathedral and baptistry next to it too. Those were pretty cool. We stayed in Rome the entire time, but we went to Pisa, Florence, Orvieto and Frascati. I liked Frascati the best. I also happened to sit next to this dude on a bus who was wearing an Iron Maiden shirt. So. That was fun. haha.
