So, I went to see Sin City twice today.

Incidentally, to that Kindgdom of Heaven mention (could hardly be called a discussion) a couple of pages back, I've actually seen it. I went to see it last Monday, just for something to do. It wasn't great, but it was surprisingly enjoyable all the same.

I loved Sin City, but didn't really like Kingdom of Heaven.

Maybe I have a short attention span.

I just thought Orlando Bloom made a surprisingly believable Commander Of The World. Plus I liked that the whole thing really badly condemns religion.

Sin City was roughly thirty thousand times better, though.

That reminded me of ice skating for some reason...

Anyway, my town festival was awesome today. Spent pretty much all day (well, went to school then drove a few of my friends downtown) with the girlfriend. She is awesome. SHe bonded with my friend (different schools) and it was great. We spent a lot of time making fun of her veganism. Found a special features disc of the movie Troy. Didn't watch more than 5 minutes because it was boring. Had sex. Watched food channel with friends. Went home. Good day.

Joe, I just invited you to me on myspace. I think it's you at least.

Ohhh... so today all the classes were supposdt o vote for class officers next year. Every other class was announced but not the seniors (me) because one homeroom had a sub and din't vote. I really want to but am currently broke. They made their way to the top of my list of albums to by just because I love them and will be easier to listen to with friends than metal. Like Dredg. There was other stuff I wanted more, but knew that Dredg would get the most spins.

According to the book, you embarked on your anti-slavery crusade as a result of feelings of intellectual superiority over your fellow
"******s" and thus felt the most intense self-hate for being black you can possibly imagine. Therefore, your crusade was to prove to all the idiot blacks that they didn't have to be. You also are a depraved sexual creature who lusts after a white woman who is the daughter of your master, and when combined with your intense, fundamentalist religious convictions obtained from your master's Bible, your lust and your disgust at the sheer tempting power of the girl's virginity lead you to (after killing the rest of her family including a baby boy) brutally rape her in a field and then shoot her in the back of the head. Oh, and you jack off with other slaves and in one passion-filled moment you masturbate against a tree to rid yourself from the visions of the object of your lust.

Not the best person to be named after IMO. On the other hand, the author of this book was a Southern white male and it was published in the mid-60s. (The same guy wrote Sophie's Choice, which pissed off a lot of women the same way this book pissed off a lot of black people. Poor guy just can't cut a break I suppose. )

EDIT: In case you can't tell yet, it's a woefully dated and laughably pigheaded view of what slavery was like.

Also, when I was drunk enough, I forsook my own English and started speaking BBC English to my girlfriend. :\ Either that or really accented Flemish, I didn't feel like talking normally at the time.

You are the kind of people I hate. Ones who dont STFU when they're giving a speech. I hate listening to stupid high school kids talk about how thankful they are for awards and crap, they don't care, they just love the title of being something extremely superficial. It's times like those when you need to have tomatoes in your hand to throw at faggots.

I'm not that worried about tomato-throwing. You wouldn't have been in the organization anyway because you're stupid :)

Besides, there's nothing superficial about succeeding, just the awards themselves.

Hi thread!

I saw Lords of Dogtown last night. I myself thought it was a good movie, and from the books I've read about the early skate scene it portrayed that point in time really good. Most notable thing about that movie was its soundtrack; it was excellent.

Wait, this was "True"?

It was a fictional interpretation based on actual supposed "confessions" written by Nat Turner, who was the only man to lead a successful slave revolt in the history of the United States before the Civil War. It's a severely flawed one, too, as you can see: what the author felt was creative liscense ended up pissing off a lot of black people. It's an important book because it does represent a game attempt to describe the conditions under slavery and does it very well in some instances, and also I think the uproar surrounding it is a little messed up because, after all, it's not as if slaves couldn't be mentally disturbed just because retrospective history awards them far too much pain already. But it's still a rather gratuitious book, in my opinion.

So it's probably not true in the historical sense, but it represents an attempt to recreate what might have been true about Turner's character and motivations.

If that's the case, their style sucks, and they need to STFU. The music sucks, the style isnt cool, they're all pussies, all the emo dudes look like chicks, and they all try to be so dark and "intuitive to their feelings." Well. That's just asking for people to make fun of them. I hate emo kids more than anything possible, whenever I see one, I want to kick it and throw it at another emo kid.

What do you mean? Emo kids are emo kids.

They suck.

I mean "emo kid" isn't an inherent property in itself (like, for example, Jew would be), so you have to expand. Is an emo kid just someone who listens to emo? Or do they have to believe in "the scene", and the required fashion and everything. Just wondering.

All of the above. There are emo kids that listen to emo.. there are emo kids that don't listen to the music, but dress gay anyways. It's a toss up, because the music sucks, and the fashion sucks. So, in a nutshell, emo kids suck.

I don't care one way or the other about emo kids, because they're sad, and I can dig that. What I can't stand are people like my old roommate, who at times used his genuine emoness as a stand-in for an actual personality. These are the emo kids that I have a problem with, because we all know what they're really saying when they say "I'm so sad and depressed and ugly and no one likes me." (which is usually said to the female friends that they find attractive, BTW) What are they saying? "Prove everything I just said wrong." That's a **** helpless attitude at best and shameless, plain-and-simple compliment fishing at worst, and I'll tell you, it doesn't fly for most people. The way to get people to like you is to act likeable, not to get friends by sympathy ballot.

And don't ever, ever try to convince me that a horrible, voice-cracking scream at the end of a Dashboard Confessional vocal line is "so emotional." It's a ****ing scream, and an explanation for why the guy can't sing. Nothing more.

Other than those pet peeves, let people be as emo as they want. :)

Usually sad people want to hide the fact that they are depressed and unhappy, because they're ashamed of it. Faggots who go out of their way to try and tell people, and FORCE people to make the other people feel sorry for them, is just ****ing pathetic.

You also said it was pathetic for people like me to brag about meaningless little accomplishments and college application filler. Well if I'm not supposed to brag, and I'm not supposed to attract pity, then what should I do? Some sort of "in between" thing? No I think not!

Joe, I strongly disagree with you. The new album is good, but WTF is far better. Everything on WTF flows together perfectly, and the screaming is just amazing, not to mention the clean singing is better. And to say WTF is only good for a few months is retarded, I've had the album for 2 years, and it's still one of my favorites.

Once again, you seem to have missed the fact that that is my opinion. Listen to it again, the riffs are boring, they use the same progression every time they do a melodic riff (tone, semi-tone, tone) and the drumming and bass are both very much drummed down (no pun intended). I find the screams are alot weaker than on STST, and i am very happy with the new direction. I can no longer listen to WTF without getting very bored, very fast.

Yep, totally morning.

Oh great, another "core" genre. Too many genres these days.

It's just something they made up (and they acknowledge they made it up) to shove bands like TBS into, since people who go there insisting that they're emo won't accept that they're pop-punk because they scream occasionally.

Also, look at the thread in Hardcore/Emo. 'Show review thread.'

Are you kidding? That's epitome of a sucky all girl band. The drummer just hits the things randomly without any sense of rhythm, the instruments are out of tune, they just hit random notes all over the place. The vocals are horrible and monotonous, the backing vocals come in too late.
And yet, allmusic praises them for doing all of the above, what a bunch of bullshit.

I wish American cars sucked less and Japanese cars were less wussy. German cars ++

We make fun of the Dutch mostly. And in fact, these are the best countries to live in, according to the human development index.

Subaru Legacy for me
Honda CRV for my pop
Volkwasgen Jetta TDI for my mom

Not that Japanese cars are bad, they just don't feel like they have any meat to them. And American cars suck because there is too much meat.

American cars can go to hell and stay there...

And Japanese cars are far from being "wussy", but also the Germans make nice cars such as Audi...

Audi TT quattro = sexy and fast

21. Spain 0.913
22. Israel 0.896

Those two are very suprising to me. What with Basques and civil war. Meh, I knew Canada would be right up there.

A Subaru Legacy?

Isn't that an SUV? Or am I making assumptions based on the fact that it's a Subaru?
