Suit yourself :)
I see the anonymous-girl=male disease that is so rampant on MX has struck again. Belated welcome to the forums, TMS. :)
What's happening folks? I'm in the middle of a super-annoying job search, and my parents threatened last night to cut my hair. I didn't think I was that attached to long hair, but I've spent so much effort growing it that it's just centimeters away from rock n' roll hawtness. I almost cried when they said "You MUST get your hair CUT!"
Otherwise, things are pretty well with me. How are you guys?
BTW, Jom, what did you say in that letter?

Howdy folks.
My drivers test was one point off for poor judgment at stop signs (I didn't wait a full 3 seconds or whatever at the line and then pulled up so I could see around some cars). I like to drive. I wish I could afford a fast car and the gas to drive it fast.
Cain - I used to hate getting my haircut but then I began to prefer short hair because it looks neater. I hope you get to at least get yours to rawking length.
Hi TMS.
I also am interested as to what Jom would've changed about highschool.

What question?
In regards to the following post:
Anyways, hello. I went and visited some of my high school teachers this morning, and that made for a good trip. They were all willing to talk for a bit, which was nice. I told some of my stories from uni and they told me about the school year there. Sixteen teachers are retiring at the end of the year, which is a lot, even for a large high school like mine was.
One of my teachers asked me, "If you could change one thing about high school, what would it be?"
I didn't have an answer.
As soon as I sat in the car on the way home, it came to me. So I drove home, wrote this teacher a letter, delivered it, and went home again. It seems a bit open-ended, and now that I think about it, I'm a bit concerned as to what this teacher will do with it. But no matter. I was satisfied with my answer, and if it comes back and bites me in the [butt], then so be it.
Some people have asked about what it is I wrote. I don't plan on answering that at the moment.

Nothing that I'd be particularly proud of to show today. Guitar and creative writing have been my true loves for the past four years: these Dante drawings and a few drawings I made for a Veteran's Day Breakfast (a pick-your-service brochure cover, with different covers depicting Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines) are the only real substantial work I've done recently...although there are a few World War II drawings that are pretty good.
I used to draw battle scenes of the Civil War. I was a real buff, but recently I've realized that I have lost my ability to recall the various trivias and specifics of the the war. That's a shame. :(

My breadth was weak, too (I'm no good at painting, in general), and my concentration started out cool but never went anywhere. Next year I'm taking AP Studio 2D (basically the same thing) and I really want to develop some great concepts in my work.
Dancin' Man
05-24-2005, 10:34 PM
Well for me it's more like an independent study (because video isn't an AP conc yet) but for AP my Conc will be digital imaging and basically photoshop. I love photoshop, especially because it is the number one way to slip inappropriate things into your art without anyone but the most careful observer noticing. Example - at my school everyone signs the bricks at some point. Therefore, there are hundreds of bricks with writing etched into them at my school. I like to write rude things on the walls with photoshop in a picture that has nothing to do with the walls.

I'm a pretty easy director but my 'actors' (I've never done a movie with spoken scripts) have to be able to move and take direction really fast. Since I don mostly silent movies, I just call out what I want and work as one of the cinematographers. I'd love to be a director of cinematography so I can make a movie artsy and not have to worry about the actors.

Dante Alighieri, probably best known for being a poet/writer. He wrote the Inferno, which is basically his vision of Hell. My main problem with it is that he never really seemed to give any reason for thinking it was this way, rather than any other.

My poem: feedback plz?
Shallow
When I can bear to lift my head up from my desk
I stare out the window, and wonder about the world.
It’s not healthy in a boy my age to think about the pitfalls in human nature.
But I can’t help it.
Talking with my peers is constantly becoming a chore.
It’s not easy to try and be a nice guy when surrounded by gossip.
I find it hard to stifle my screams when I listen to my acquaintances talk.
But I manage.
A man needn’t be holy to know when he’s surrounded by sinners.
If life is an ocean of hatred and mistrust, dark and black
Then it’s one shallow enough for everyone to paddle in from time to time
Even those too young to swim.
It’s a guilty little pleasure we allow ourselves sometimes,
To swim and bathe and swallow the filthy waters of gossip,
To let the waters rush over our heads and drown us in jealousy and hatred
And drink deep.
Each day is a struggle to get through. It’s tiring work,
To stand and sit and listen to snide remarks all around you.
I feel so weary when I return from the battlefront, and collapse into a chair
And delicately put my head back down on the desk.

I wish I could... but two things stop me. A) I don't want to seem pretentious or as if I occupy the moral highground, and B) far too many people do it for my to try and explain people the importance of valuing others, and of not taking people at face value.

It's nothing special, only took me about an hour.
EDIT: There's downloads in it, so screw it, here it is, lest they expire.
Faith No More (outside Angel Dust) - Well worth checking out. They're one of the more grounded projects he's worked in, and the music is generally amongst the more "normal" out of what he's produced, e.g. it generally confines itself to vocals/guitar/bass/drums/keyboard set-up, there are real songs, with verses and choruses and everything, and they don't just swing too wildly through different genres album-to-album. Pre-Patton they had a different singer, who by many accounts wasn't all that good, and who I haven't heard anyway.
Patton joined them on The Real Thing, which was, I think, their biggest commercial success, or at least their breakthrough album, containing as it did the hit Epic (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3LW3WVNJJY07M3LUJSK6EW3S56). Despite the rather undoubtedly commercial nature and success of Epic, the album itself isn't just filler, or eleven tracks following the same thread closely. Despite other somewhat similarly accessible songs, such as the (amazing) opener From Out of Nowhere (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3KO7L0K0Y893C037329RDB8YEL), the album also contained it's fair share of curveballs, such as their cover of Black Sabbath's War Pigs (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2XNN3ZYQ9DDCG1L85M671JS32S) and Patton in lounge-jazz crooner mode on the closing Edge of the World (http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1BOSGUB8FA6A5203FQ0FNF53QR).
Angel Dust you already know, so I won't go into it too much. It's basically considered to be the band's creative peak, and it is a brilliant album. "Schizophrenic" is used a lot to describe it in reviews, with good reason.
King For a Day, Fool For a Lifetime is a slow-burner. I think it's a little more esoteric than most of the rest of their output, though I'm not sure why, it's not because it's aurally shocking, or loud, or violent. It just seemed to catch me off-guard initially, but when I finally managed to digest it properly, it settled into a place mostly just below, occasionally equal to, Angel Dust in my affections. Stand-out tracks are hard to pick, since there is a fair amount of variation, and an incredibly high standard of song-writing throughout. Ricochet (http://s49.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3ETGC3R5LKRJP0C4DCSPMSOLOY) contains the celebrated line "It's only funny until someone gets hurt, and then it's just hilarious, while Evidence (http://s49.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1T3AZLW7QAPOK10KB7486JZD32) seems written specifically to exemplify KFAD's slow-burning nature.
Album of the Year is the FNM album I'm probably least familiar with (apart from the ones I've not heard, naturally). It was their last before internal stress broke the band apart, and it's a fine album to go out on. It doesn't have the schizophrenic nature of Angel Dust or the excellence of songwriting of KFAD; it's just very good. More or less randomly chosen exemplary tracks - Helpless (http://s49.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0F0DTDGNNVSI339PHYEKB4823A) and Ashes to Ashes (http://s49.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3PU66NWBAGV6Y2CKF7D3OQ1IXI).
After Faith No More, he became incredibly prolific, which is no bad thing since (in my humble opinion of course) he's one of the greatest vocalists around. The following are in no particular order (not even necessarily post-FNM);
Mr Bungle were a band Patton was in before FNM (I think, anyway - not sure), but their first official (self-titled) album wasn't released until 1991, thanks to Patton's success with Faith No More. Far though FNM may be from the norm, Mr Bungle are further. They switch (or switched - they broke up late in 2004) between rock, metal, ska, jazz, pop, surf rock, doo-wop, funk, and just general unclassifiable-ness throughout their three releases, and often throughout each individual song.
The first, self-titled album is probably their most 'normal'; it's very funky, and probably hits the least amount of genres of the three. It's also their most immature record; pretty much each song is bookended by noise, funny samples or sex/toilet-centred humour, not to mention actual songs such as My *** is On Fire (http://s43.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1WIKMU3LJ55MF0DGOOWY3LROD0) and The Girls of Pórn (http://s43.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3DWY0BWWD2W0Q2NDBIQ2PKFR6Y). But it's still an excellent release.
Disco Volante came next, and is my least favourite. It's not bad, but it's very (very) experimental, and often songs just aren't that great. Nonetheless, sample tracks; Desert Search for Techno Allah (http://s4.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3BA6P857A177V33G2DYKTT6FNP) and Carry Stress in the Jaw (http://s4.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=18P9DLQ034YV61CGVXV6WXV9BP).
California, the third and last, is probably the one most often considered their best. Real song-structures and a Trojan-horse approach to the music itself make a really memorable album. The genres still switch around all over the place, of course. Patton's voice gets plenty of use, which can only be a good thing. Stand-out tracks, in a similar manner to KFAD, are difficult to pinpoint, but here's the opener, Sweet Charity (http://s21.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0R0YTY3C9NL2D0OM33UYL1BYDP), the closing track, Goodbye Sober Day (http://s21.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1IXJA0B3ZTWGC1N0O9VK4KMKMY), and one of my personal favourites (and a shorter track), Vanity Fair (http://s21.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0HKIO9VI1INNU16DU1BCHUAGQN).
Now, Fantomas are something of a supergroup, consisting as they do of Trevor Dunn (Mr Bungle - and others - bassist, and an excellent bassist at that), Melvins' Buzz Osbourne, and Slayer's Dave Lombardo. Probably the most experimental of Patton's long-standing projects, uploading tracks would be more or less useless, so I won't upload any without request. Their first album was a thirty track, vocal-less (or rather lyric-less - Patton shrieks, growls, scats and otherwise gibbers his way through the album) semi-concept album based on the band's namesake, and is excellent, if a bit of a shock initially. Here (http://s4.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=313ZQ834V8DOY1CXZBI2ICLUW4)'s a short video of them playing the 29th track on the album live which I like.
Second came The Director's Cut, an album somewhat in the vein of their first album, but with tracks more closely resembling songs, along with resembling the famous film scores they were covering/interpreting.
Their third release is known as Delirium Cordia, and is again vaguely conceptual; it's supposed to be something of a soundtrack to a surgical operation. It's one single track, seventy-four minutes long, and ranges between 'awesome' and 'godawful', depending entirely on mood, disposition, etc.
Their last album, released earlier this year, is called Suspended Animation, and is the closest thing to repeating themselves they've done yet, since it largely resembles their first album (thirty tracks, similar musical style), but interspersed with samples of cartoon music and sometimes mimicking cartoon music. It's dedicated to the month of April - was released on April 1st, the packaging is in the form of a calendar for April (and includes "Mother's Day"-style days for each day of it), and the tracks are called simply 04/01/05, 04/02/05, etc. I'm still undecided on it, personally.
Tomahawk are one of his bands I know little about. They've released two albums, I think, self-titled and Mit Gas. I think other members of the band were formerly in Jesus Lizard, which can't be bad. I have three songs from the first, self-titled album downloaded on a different computer, and they're pretty good. I keep meaning to pick the albums up, though.
Now, side-projects and one-offs. There are a fair few, and most of them won't have uploaded songs, either because I haven't got the albums available to me, or because YSI seems to have mysteriously stopped working for me.
1. He did some work on Björk's Medulla album. It's an almost entirely all-vocal album, which I quite like (although many other don't), so he's one amongst many talented vocalists she assembled, and his contribution (on record, anyway) doesn't seem incredibly substantial.

2. General Patton vs the X-Ecutioners is another more recently released project he's been involved in, and it's just what it sounds like - Mike Patton and the (somewhat legendary) team of scratchers collaborating on a military-themed project. I personally enjoy it, and I think most people would like it if they took it with a light heart. I've uploaded the first three tracks from the album; the first two form an amusing introduction, while the third is the first real song on the album.
1. X-Men Doctrine and Declaration - Target 40-40-11N 73-56-38W (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0GQ1YACYBX1TA3PGJWMN1V73KQ)
2. General P. Counterintelligence - Target 37-47-38N 122-33-17W (http://s19.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=05KLQN8BAY4A01NR24XYROWW9)
3. ¡Get Up, Punk! 0200 Hrs. (Joint Special Operations Task Force) (http://s13.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2EW6M54UCCGY22BOOGWRMDOK52)
4. He released a record in collaboration with John Kaada, a Norwegian experimental pop and film score musician, and I like the result, Romances. It's a nice little album. It's not very structured, but I liked it all the same; it brings to mind hedonistic, debonair, film noir scenes for me. Pitié Pour Mes Larmes (http://s14.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0DXHNU6WGMYFO2JJWE9OV99S2L) is one of the songs with lyrics, and Labsent (http://s4.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2O1QZ1TW7PKH33BASOEDWMRYGJ) is one of the better shorter tracks.
5. He also has two solo albums to his name, which go by the name of Adult Themes For Voice and Pranzo Oltranzista. I've not heard anything from them, so I can't pass comment, really. I think they're all-vocal, and non-lyrical, though.
6. He did a one off album with the Japanese noise-legend known as Merzbow, under the name of Maldoror. The album is called She, and if it was in any stores I've found it in for less than the £14.99 it seems eternally to be priced at, I would probably own it. Since it doesn't seem to be, my sole experience of Maldoror is a track called Twitch of the Death Nerve which I downloaded a couple of years ago, but which I don't have here for you. It was, as you might expect, noise, but it was a good track.
7. In the time when the Dillinger Escape Plan were without a vocalist, Patton joined them for some live shows and recorded an EP called Irony is a Dead Scene. It's a very good EP, though only four songs. A live cover the collaboration did has recently been uploaded here (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8010021&postcount=79).
8. He did some live shows with the (incredibly talented) beatboxer Rahzel. I get the impression there is some recorded material from them too, but I haven't heard it.
And, though I've probably missed out something big, that's all of his I know/have heard.
EDIT: And now I think I'm going to go for tea.

I like it this way moreso than the first time around. I mean, yeah, it was fun negging people for over 200 points, and watching you get a retaliatory worth-zero neg message in reply, but other than that, it wasn't as structured as it is now. It needed more balance.

I just thought of the greatest movie plot EVER:
It's about a Platypus that marries a block of swiss cheese. They are madly in love, but it turns out that the cheese is actually David Hasselhoff in disguise. He was trying to get the Platypus to star in MTV's remake of every episode of Baywatch, and he would accomplish this by making him fall in love with him. The platypus doesn't take kindly to this, as it breaks his heart. Knowing that he was used to hopefully star in a beach rescue show, he vows to kill every female lifeguard with a D cup that exists in this world.
(You may have noticed that I've been referring to the platypus as a "him". I've not mixed up my genders, and I have planned this out. Yes, David Hasselhoff was gay with a MALE platypus.)
Anyways, the platypus then goes on to kill every femme lifeguard. Except for one, PAMELA ANDERSON PLATYPUS SLAYER!!! *dun dun dun*
The two soon meet up and square off into the largest battle ever in the history of the world. Then, just before Pamela starts to get the upper hand, Hamtaro and Hello Kitty come out of nowhere and eat them both. Hamtaro and Hello Kitty then live happily ever after, living in a small cottage in southern Norway, eternally watching Baywatch reruns.
