But I have bought some "new"(A couple of these I already got on my computer) cds.
Mr. Bungle - S/T
Steve Vai - Real Illusions:Reflections
Faith No More - The Real Thing(The cashier at the counter pulled out a used copy for me after he saw that I liked Mr. Bungle  )
Pink Floyd - Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live: 1980 - 1981
How is the Pink Floyd CD? I've been considering picking it up.

R&M is moving slow tonight
Hey Jom , how many pieces of flare do you wear?
Actually, I received my first piece of flare today. I don't think there is a minimum of fifteen for us, because I'm working in the kitchen with all the Spanish-speakers
I'm pretty sure the servers and hosts have to be hardcore-flare... but I dunno. There are a couple hardcore people who think they ARE Mr. Red Robin, so they have a ridiculous amount of flare all over their shirts, pants, hats, etc.
Today was an easier day, luckily. I also updated the YSI thread, and am now going to eat dinner.
I'm glad that this thread didn't blow by since last night... it's nice only having to read back a page.

I just found out my ex-girlfriend is engaged. This is a such a stange feeling.
Well, one of my ex-girlfriends (the last girlfriend I had in high school, to be exact) is, from what I've heard, the easiest girl at her university, which I guess is kind of weird.
What is flare?
They're buttons/pins/badges that workers in family-themed restaraunts wear.
What ATM was going for, I think, was that in the movie Office Space, Jennifer Aniston's character works at a TGIFriday's-type place and her boss calls them "pieces of flare".

I just found out my ex-girlfriend is engaged. This is a such a stange feeling.
I get that. Last year, I found out my ex-girlfriend was not only engaged, but she was also pregnant. The reason this was a real shock is because she has a weak heart, and excessive stress to her body causes complications. Birthing a child could mark the end of her own life.
I don't even know if she's still alive. Her fiancee wouldn't let her call me anymore after the last time when I found out about the pregnancy and what not.

that's kinda random...
/very late again, perhaps
Flare is an Office Space reference.
The gay guy at Chochkie's wore something like 57 pieces of flare, while Jennifer Aniston's character only wore 15. Mike Judge, her boss, was like, "Joanna [Aniston's character], Brian [gay guy, HUGE asskisser in the film] is wearing 57 pieces of flare, and you're wearing 15. 15 is our minimum... and if you think that the minimum the best you can do, well, that's fine, but I want you to be more like Brian."
Lunch: Yep, we have a mascot. Usually the women are the mascot since you have to wear yellow tights... but, you know, if that's the kind of thing that floats a guy's boat, then let him set sail.
/will edit if I missed anything

She's on a Fulbright right now and since she'll already be in Europe, she'll live with her boyfriend in Spain and find some job. She's fluent in Spanish and has her masters in cello performance so she might try to find a job in an orchestra or something. So. I have a bizarre story. So my friend Brandt dropped by my house about a 1/2 hour ago to pick up some CDs he left at my house.. I answered the door and noticed hickies on his neck. I was like, "what are those? are those hickies?" and he said, "oh god. Please don't tell me I have hickies on my neck." so then he asked me if I had any makeup or anything that'll cover it up so he could go home without his parents giving him the 3rd degree. My parents thought it was hilarious. So I spent 15 mins trying to cover up 3 hickies on a dudes neck.
Quite interesting.
Hickies are so goofy.

Yeah, their new CD's called (N)Utopia, and it's just not Graveworm, man. It's sad. The keyboards aren't very prominent and one of the songs, "Hateful Design" just sounds more like slow metalcore.

Good morning, sexy thang. I'm awake, I guess. I have tormented every math teacher I have ever had, so I'd say no, I'm not to good at math. Freshman year I waved salami in front of my Algebra teacher's face and asked her if she wanted to suck my meat, and this year I convinced my Geometry teacher that he was gay. So I'd say no, I can't hepl ya. Sorry.
Haha, oh that's funny, we found a bit of fish down the back of the radiator in our maths classroom last year, we almost had all the lesson off because half the class were trying to get rid of it, and another part of the fish was put in the teacher's desk drawer.
That's ok, i got my dad to help me with it instead.
I wish i was still in bed, i'm still wearing my pijamas, i watched The Ring last night and it was quite scary, but it's a brilliant film, i got to bed at 12:00 but i wasn't really that tired, so i read a whole book before i went to sleep. 3:00 i got to sleep.

Last night they showed every episode of the Hitch Hicker's Guide original TV series back to back.

haven't seen the movie yet, though. Is the movie, for those who know, just the first book like the whole TV series, or all four books? Or the fifth aswell?
Adam Jones is GOD

Just the first. And it follows Adam's script rather than the book.
Considering he wrote a lot of different versions, I guess i shouldnt have expected it to follow the book in any case. And the TV series I though followed the first 3? I know they reach the Restaraunt at least in the series.

You're right to be apprehensive about the Guide film. I didn't like it much, but I'd still recommend seeing it..I won't say more for now, until you've seen it
[Mos Def was]Very American/Canadian, and yet still claiming to be from Guildford. I got the impression he hadn't actually read the books beforehand :-/ Some of the lines/scenes he had just didn't seem to work.
Basically, don't go seeing it expecting a dramatisation of the book. The basic concept and characters are there, but the plot has been somewhat torn apart, added to, taken away from, changed, etc. I want to avoid using negative words like "mangled" because the changes aren't necesssarily negative (i.e. it might still be likeable as a film separate from the books), but from the perspective of a fan of the books, it isn't the Guide.
I'm not really looking forward to seeing it :-/

Pretty cool. My sister and nan are going to CA sometime in the future to see my great: uncle, aunt and cousin. I'm very jealous because we both love to surf, and my sister gets to go and i don't.
It's 4:20pm over here.
I was pretty surprised by the Hitch-hiker's film. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it was nothing like what I was expecting. It seemed more like an unusually long episode of a TV series than a movie. It didn't end, it just sort of....stopped.
Zaphod was nothing like how I imagined him. The actor playing him was very good though, as were Martin Freeman and Zooey Deschanel.
Entertaining though, and very funny in places. Like Bartender said, I'd recommend it, but it's definitely very seperated from the book. And, obviously, the book is better.

I would have preferred a more relaxed version of Zaphod. Sometimes Rockwell seemed to go over the top with the goofiness angle. Someone elsewhere on the forums mentioned Jeff Bridges, and I agree he would have made a pretty good Zaphod. Glad you liked Deschanel, though.

I have this article that I think would be very interesting to the musicians and the heavy metal fans on the forum that I got off a college database called JSTOR. It's an amazing article and should not be missed, but it's quite lengthly: about 35 pages of text. I was wondering if it would be considered against the rules to copy and paste something so lengthly into the thread.
I linked them to the article at first, forgetting that my school has access to the database while others don't. I tried uploading a document in Word but not everybody has it. This seems to be the best way to do it. Would that be all right?

Yeah, I saw that thread, and was interested in reading it. I was going to post until I saw Riva's post (the last at the time). I don't know if copy-pasting the whole thing would really be feasible with that much text, though..how many posts do you reckon it would take (10,000 words per post)?

I have nearly 72 hours of music on my PC - well actually its the family one, we all use it as it's the only one in the house, but all that music bar about 3 hours is mine :) I haven't bothered getting Audioscrobbler though, as I just let Media Player cycle up whatever it wants, which is fine except when it puts my sister's music (Girls Aloud, Christina Aguilera, etc)

Heh, Korn's singles are good, but they have better songs, though I can understand you not liking songs like Wake Up Hate, Beat It Upright, Cunt, All In The Family, Children Of The Korn, Cameltosis, Play Me, or Wish You Could Be Me, after all, those songs are garbage, you really need to know what your looking for when you listen to them.

I, too, do not own an Audioscrobbler. There isn't a plug-in for Musicmatch, I don't think, and plus, I don't have any music on my home computer save for the songs I download from here.
I don't really like Korn all that much... the only album I own from them is a burned copy of "Follow the Leader." For someone who makes a claim that his primary genres that he listens to are nu metal and alternative metal, I s'pose that's a bit odd. But I dunno.

I'm sorry about your dog, 11teen. My last labrador lived to be 13, but she was failing all over... especially her kidneys. 15 years is a long time for any dog, though, so at least know that.

It's about time we had our own song
Don't know what took so long
Cuz now-a-days it like a badge of honor
To be a baby mama
I see ya payin' ya bills
I see ya workin' ya job
I see ya goin' to school
And girl I know it's hard
And even though ya fed up
With makin' beds up
Girl, keep ya head up

The other night I was at Picadiily. There was some 65 year old guy listening to a cd player. When he took out the cd, I looked at it and couldn't tell what it was. That'd be funny if he pulled out Pantera or something, I thought. He puts the Cd's he holding back in the case and pulls out Cowboys From Hell. That freaked me the hell out.
Also, I turned 13 yesterday. Comments?

When you uploaded Ultravisitor in Other Music, I was able to get a hold of it at uni before I came home to the slow connection. So, I figured, "Hey, let's put it to CD so I can take it wherever."
It doesn't fit on a whole CD !

Uh...No, it was one disc. That said disc is 79:49 long, though, and me ripping it at about 128kbps wouldn'tve helped file sizes.
I also uploaded some more stuff for the YSI thread so you can hopefully shorten the thread.

You know, I have reached the conclusion that Ernest Hemingway is the best writer ever.
He didn't waste time writing about touchy-feely things. He wrote about war. And fishing.
He didn't waste time with big words and fancy sentence structure. His writing is simple and bold.

The ending did seem rushed. But overall, I was happy with how the movies turned out.
One funny detail in the commentaries are the cast and crew's reactions to the widespread complaints about the "too many endings" phenomenon in Return of the King...they laugh about it like it's some sort of thing they would have tweaked given the chance, or some sort of oversight and a silly mistake that they freely acknowledge, which is kind of refreshing, being a person like me who has personally seen Michael Moore defend the choices he's made in his work like some ego-bruised kid.
I can only add to this that my favourite author, of any genre, is David Eddings.
*points to username*
Also, Raymond E. Fiest, J.R.R Tolkien, Matthew Reilly, Katherine Kerr, Robert Ludlum, Michael Chricton, and Anne MacCaffrey.
Also, if you enjoyed LOTR, you have to read the Silmilarion, listen to Blind Guardian's "Nightfall In Middle-Earth" which I found out relates to the book, then re-read the Silmilarion. Honestly, that book is amazing.

The Silmarillion is ok, but Chris Tolkein is nowhere near as skilled at cogently and artistically writing about very complex worlds and characters as his father, even with his father's notes to work from.
And I've tried Blind Guardian, but ehhh...I'm unsure. They're a side of Power Metal that's less operatic than it is just one great big bellow, and there IS a difference I think.
Not sure, though. Riva, If you like, you can upload me that album here or a representative song in the YSI thread. I'd appreciate the exposure. :)

It has to do with the idea of "clear and distinct ideas", and their relationship to you, and God. Descartes, having proved God elsewhere, says that because God guarantees our understanding, then it is possible for us to have true and lasting knowledge of the world around us, etc. However, because God also gave us free will, it's still possible for us to make mistakes - it's not that his guaranteeing our understanding guarantees that we will always understand things correctly, because our free will can mislead us, but that if we think on something properly, and know enough about it to know it properly, then his guaranteeing our understanding guarantees that what we understand in such a way (clearly and distinctly, hence clear and distinct ideas) is true.
I think I'm going to do the first one, if only because I've just started reading an essay that I can cite as reference if I do the first one.

Well I was just talking to a friend of mine this morning (who doesn't do philosophy), and he had the idea that the cogito meant something along the lines that Descartes thought that he existed only so long as he was thinking. Once I explained it to him more, I think he got it..he stopped arguing, anyway. That's the bit I like, I suppose.
People like Nietzsche and Hume have tried to dispute it whilst actually understanding it though, and they're harder to argue against, I think.
And thanks.
