I think as the kids of Baby Boomers go into politics, there will be less facism (read: fundamentalist Christianity running amok in Washington), and the United States is hardly the only place where you'll find insufferable assholes.

Baby Boomers - kids born between 1946 and 1963...the kids of the oldest ones are probably 40 years old, and I don't see many politicians that young.

Secondly, there are also the second half of the Baby Boom (1955-1963), which I think is what I have in mind anyway.

That's all stuff from the Bush administration...I don't think anything that bad is going to follow once Bush and the radical conservatives in the Senate and House are out of power, which I'm hoping is coming soon.

Sorry I misread your initial post, I somehow skipped over the beggining where you said "the kids of the baby boomers", and I just read it as "the baby boomers".

In that case you would be correct that they aren't very involved in politics yet, but I still have my doubts about whether much is going to change.

You can chalk that nomination up to a lackluster party that is losing strength. The liberals won't vote for democrats because they suck...so soon there will be one dominant party if liberals don't get a reason to support democrats.

Every so often I hear people say things like, "Dude, I'm moving to Europe after I graduate, this country's in such bad shape" and every time I here someone say it I want to punch them.

It's representive of one of this country's major problems: People would rather run away from their problems and/or seek an easy solution than confront them head-on. People bitch and moan about how lousy things are but they never work to improve them, they just find a way to ignore them.

America is far from perfect--hell, right now it's very flawed--but it's never going to get better if people don't work to make it better.

Yes, but can you blaim them? I have personal dislike of America just because of the amount of waste that goes on. The whole society seems to be built around waste.

Im not green party supporter, but it just bugs me. And Europe isnt that much better, our election is an absolute shambles.

Well said, I agree. My thoughts are this. If someone wants to sit around and bitch about the problem, not try to help fix it, and run to Europe, BYE. Them moving to Europe and denouncing thier citizenship is one positive step. You should encourage those people to leave.

This country is in bad shape I agree, we are still recovering from 9-11 and are still in shock from everything that happened. We are having religion shoved down our throats harder and harder every day so the select few can try to control the masses.

The answer to the problem? There are many, the question is what angle to focus and attack. The government is pretty much a lame duck. The WHOLE governemt. You can't have something set in stone (the government) that doesnt evolve like the people it is trying to rule. We, as humans, have evolved in ways that were not even fathomable by the founding fathers of our country who began this government. In terms of a time-line, todays government is in the middle ages.

Its hard to say, we all have to blindly keep the faith in our country, and our countrymen. We can keep voicing our opinions, voting, and making our voice heard to those we elect.

I think it's ridiculous to say Religion is being shoved down our throats when public officials can't even wear symbols of their religions, or put symbols of their religions in their workplace. Atheism is getting shoved down our throats, and it's **** obvious. The whole seperation of Church/State thing is being grossly misinterpreted, it was supposed to mean that NO Religion should run the Government, like NO National Religion, now if you publicly display your Religion it's "shoving your views down peoples throats."

That's not the issue at hand. The issue at hand is allowing to get married and get the legal rights married couples do. Gay marriage is not wrong in any way, shape or form and it doesn't even concern most people's lives. There is no reason to ban it. Not a single one. At least one that doesn't hinge on a notion of "right" or "wrong" as defined by religion. If it's wrong, how is denying them their rights as American citizens not?

1. Zepfan beat me to my first point

2. Either way, outlawing abortion will have the same effect Prohibition did on alcohol abuse, or the "War on Drugs" has had on drug use.

Read: It won't stop a damn thing.

As long as women are getting pregnant when they don't want to--which will be til the end of time--they will get abortions. And it's better that licensed doctors do it with the correct tools and anesthetic instead of some back-alley whackjob with a hanger.

False reality, inspiring our deepest lamentations
A plague to thought, a lack of inspiration
A union of mind, body, heart, and soul
In self redemption on may become whole
In westbound darkness, death will rise
A doom in blood is one's prize
Never more than a whisper in the dark
No coward will dare to step from the dark

A knave that trails, tredding dark into the deep
A beast that revels in pain that sucks away sleep
Like wet ash it stalks one's mind in the late
A hidden demon, a symbol of hate
The threads of existance intertwine
Yet foolish assumptions, doom that of thine
The reaper, the death, a peril to quest
The all powerful touch, a peril to quest

Upon the end, the chapter of last
The shadow emerges from dreams of past
In the bloodfire, red scorched earth
The one with the union shall prove worth
Always doubt clouds one's mind
And always the failure is forced to bind
The demon can be vanquished, but only through belief
The dark can be purged, if only you hold to a belief

******

Heh, I feel so nerdy and cheesey, but this song is basically what I interpretted out of The Elfstones Of Shannarra by Terry Brooks, so bah.
Ok, couple of questions.

In line two, "A plague to thought, a lack of inspiration". Is that meaning that you feel you are a plague to your own thoughts or that Brooks is a plague to your thoughts?

In self redemption on may become whole
Is it supposed to be, In self-redemtion one may become whole?

Hmmm well man, no offense, I don't really like it. It seems over written and doesnt flow well. But, I guess since its death metal, structure doesnt really matter haha.

Best drummer I saw live was probably the guy playing for Santana. In the middle of his solo, he goes just double bass...like...a good paced rumble. Puts his sticks down, wipes his forhead with a towel, drinks a gatorade, picks his sticks back up and finishes the solo. Basically the fact he could do all this whilst keeping a perfect double bass beat astounded me. His solo was excellent too though.

yes, it is supposed to be one, not on.

And the plague/inspiration thing is about the character Wil not believing in himself, and the flow is a pause in the middle of the line. It's power metal with harsh vocals, so yeah, lol.

Hey, guys. I just wanted to pop in and say hello.

I started work today... I'm working as an expo at a restaurant (basically, the cooks give me the food, and I have to add any extras to it [sauces/dips, make sure the food looks presentable, etc.], then call for the runners to run [derrhrrhrr] the food out to the customers, janitorial things, etc.). It was a loooong day, and all the cooks speak Spanish, but luckily I'm pretty decent in my Spanish (iBuen trabajo, Juan!), and they're basically pretty friendly, but they like it more if you speak Spanish, even if you butcher it, because they know you're trying.

Then there are some other tasks and such, such as checking temperatures of foods and whatnot, but no one cares about that :)

It was just a long day, and everyone's under a lot of pressure since we don't open until May 9th, and we want to get all the food right, and so on and so forth.

It was just a long day, and everyone's under a lot of pressure since we don't open until May 9th, and we want to get all the food right, and so on and so forth.

I don't mean to interrupt your discussion of politics and music, so I'm going to head back. I just wanted to say hello and catch up the YSI thread with an update.

Adios.

May 9th? I get out of uni then. Maybe I could head up there for the grand opening

So what kind of food is it? Mexican?

Thanks for the kind words, all. I hope life is treating you well.

The restaurant: Red Robin... it's a national chain... gourmet burgers and spirits. I know they have them on the West Coast, but I'm not sure if they are any in IL/MA or overseas... I doubt the latter, but possibly the former? I dunno.

It's basically American food, but all the cooks are Hispanic. They talk so fast, man.

How often do you/people around you say 'I love you', because when I watch films or series (fiction) or documentaries (these people must be real), I really notice the excessive use of it.

Ah, so it's partially true. Saying 'I love you, mom' would sound extremely weird to me. Or saying it to a friend or something, I don't think anyone does that here.
Maybe we're hateful. I think our 'I love you' line sounds artificial and that's why no one says it.

I also noticed girls tend to use it a bit/way too much. It doesn't really have much meaning sometimes when girls say it to all their friends all the time. On the other hand, I think guys try to avoid saying it as much as possible.

That song...was by far the most annoying song I have ever heard...

The weird shrieking high pitched noises for the majority of the first 5-6 minutes almost got me to the point of turning it off. After that point it got good, but then it proceeded back to the whole entire shrieking bit and got annoying again...

Not creepy at all to me, just annoying as hell save a few parts to this song.
