Yes! Rap FG. I'm excited for it. In other news my roommate's still a douche but I have 2 weeks of school left, unlike some people here. I don't understand my homework and I feel like a moron. The Handmaiden's Tale by Margaret Atwood is a good book, especially for assigned reading. A Farewell to Kings is a great CD.

Question for those knowledgeable about... current music and such:

I'm scanning the network for new music to listen to, and the following albums caught my eye:

Chevelle's "Point #1"
Brand New's "Deja Entendu"
David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust..."

I'll edit the list as I move along.

Are the albums I've seen worth getting off the network?

Get Bowie and Brand New, I don't know anything about that Chevelle album, tho.

I thought we could start with "Old School" (KRS-One, Eric B. and Rakim, Grandmaster Flash) into "East Coast" (Beastie Boys, Biz Markie, Will Smith) and "West Coast" (NWA, Ice-T)

And then there was The Chronic, which seperated G-Funk (Dre, Pac, Snoop Dogg) from East Coast Gangsta (Biggie Smalls, Nas, Jay-Z, Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan, DMX)

The Mars Volta
Smashing Pumpkins
The Dog And Everything (who?)
Motion City Soundtrack
"American Idiot" (I keep hearing good and bad... honestly, which is it)
"Once"
Any QOTSA besides "Lullabies..."
"Getting Away With Murder"
"The End of Heartache"
"Point #1"
"Deja Entendu"
"The College Dropout" (I listened to this already, it was good, but the n-bomb still makes me uneasy)
Glassjaw (Eh...)

I had this entire list, but I forgot to copy/paste it, so it's extremely abridged.

I'll be looking at Sputnik for reviews as well. Thanks for the help.

Oh, and if anyone has any other suggestions for me, suggest away, and I'll look to see if they are on the network.

The Mars Volta - I've commented on these guys already. If you can get past the voice, they're good
Smashing Pumpkins - Good up until Mellon Collie...
"American Idiot" - horrible
Queens of the Stone Age - Good
College Dropout - You know how I feel about it

What happened? I know it had something to do with the other President from the past seasons.

President Logan found out that Jack disobeyed his order and sent the Secret Service to arrest him. Jack had found Marwan and was about to lead a CTU attack team in to get him, but one of Marwan's men saw the Secret Service and Marwan slipped out. President Logan then breaks down and admits he needs some help, so his chief advisor calls in former President Palmer in to guide Logan through the presidency.

Also, one of Marwan's men's girlfriends turns him in (her boyfriend, not Marwan) and we're treated to a thrilling* subplot with Chloe, which in the end makes me die a little inside.

KSE - End of Heartache

I'm quite a fan of this album. A lot of people's main complaint is the lyrics, and that they're too "emo". I tend to disagree. While he sings of a lost love and heartache and whatnot, it's not done in a whiney fashion and therefor doesn't bother me a bit. The guitar playing is ace. Many heavy and thought out riffs that work great with the music. Highlights are the first four tracks and the title track, but the whole album is solid. Overall, I give it a highly recommended.

Oh, alright.

*****SPOILERS*****

In a nutshell, here is what happened:

So you know how Jack used force to find out where Marwan was going? Well, the new President found out, got pissed, and demanded that the Secret Service arrest Jack. Meanwhile, they're at the nightclub where Marwan is beginning to broadcast to the world what happened. Well, a guard sees one of the cops moving in to position to replace Jack since the SS showed up, and so their cover was blown. The police stormed into the nightclub, but they set a bomb off to close themselves off from the nightclub to the sewers (secret passage thing). So Marwan escaped. They did recover a videotape from one of the terrorists that they shot, but we don't know what it is yet.

Well, one of the terrorist's girlfriends gets suspicious of where her boyfriend is, and she goes on his computer and finds all this encrypted and locked data, so she calls and gets put through to CTU.

The President basically is told he screwed up by his advisor, and he threatens to step down, but his advisor says that three Presidents in two days would be devestating. The President asks what he's supposed to do. In comes Palmer (the black President from previous seasons).

CTU sends Chloe to the house of the girlfriend/computer with two guards. Well, a terrorist comes in and kills the two guards, and Chloe and the girlfriend take the laptop and run like hell. They barricade themselves into a laundry room, and then escape through a window. They get to the CTU car, and the guy keeps firing at them, but the glass is bulletproof. So the guy gets in his truck and starts ramming them. CTU tells her the keycode to get to the weapons, and right when the guy is driving to ram them a third time, she assault rifles the hell out of him, and the show ends.

So, Marwan is still out on the loose, the one chance they had at Marwan was foiled because of the President's idiot move, Chloe and the girlfriend are still out in the field, and chaos is still to ensue. Oh, and Palmer is going to be the acting President, basically.

To be honest, the worst of my finals is over (writing that classics paper). Tomorrow I just have to present it, and then take my educ final, which will [hopefully] be easy. History is going to revolve around a lot of reading and reviewing lecture notes... but otherwise, I can't wait to get out of here.

How long is your girlfriend going to be in Europe, and why does that make you nervous? Er, nevermind, that's a dumb question, she's going to be five hours away from you. Sorry.

After your response, I should head to bed, since tomorrow is an early morning.

Why do you think?

She's going to be with European guys, who for some reason are 100 times better with women than American guys. I wouldn't say I'm being too paranoid or anything, because if it was anywhere in American I wouldn't care, but something about Europe makes me uneasy. And she's going to be there for a few weeks.

*cough* elitest view point *cough*

Seriously, that would be a very childish remark and I am sure more of us are far more intelligent to post something that has more substance behind it explaining our likes/dislikes about the stuff.

And people need to figure this out, metalcore is now becoming the new nu-metal in terms of people discarding bands they don't like into the genre because they are too mainstream.

Nu-metal always had the argument of why put this band with this band in the same genre? Also it had the argument of that is where all the elitests shoved the bands they don't like into and label it a bad genre as a whole.

Now metalcore has both of those same arguments yet again, what a cycle!

Now with nu-metal, the fans defended it to the death, this is now happening with metalcore and such. So all people need to do is, if you like it, listen to it, if you don't, boo freakin' hoo don't be a dick about things to make your self look bigger then another person who has different tastes.

Mainstream metal will always have this vicious cycle of mainstream versus "tr00" metal heads no matter what comes up and about.

Shred Danson
04-26-2005, 10:47 AM
I agree; most of the hatred coming towards metalcore's way is because it's becoming so popular right now-and that isn't necessarily a BAD THING. I didn't care too much for nu-metal, but when I hear metalcore, it's a breath of fresh air to hear some American metalbands that actually have quite a bit of talent.

Trust me, Norway has the most beautiful girls. You should have made a trip there.

I only know one girl from Norway (and she now lives in Sweden), but that seems to hold true for her.

I've been revisiting my love of Gordian Knot recently. For some reason it's been a while since I've properly listened to them. It's annoying in a way, because I should really be getting on with essays and things.

Well stated! Except I really hate a lot of their stuff. I just bought "Classic Queen" and that's the only song I know on the cd (stupid buy) but some of the others I really like and some are awful. Yes, they're like Tenacious D except more talented and more popular. The lyrics and stuff is funny and ridiculous but great

Assuming I stay in uni long enough to graduate, I will hopefully become a sound engineer. If I don't that's still what I hope to do though the lack of a degree limits my progression. I have plans to stay single (predictable) but I'm well aware I might change my mind. I might move to England or Canada. Yep...night.

High school = over
Uni = far, far from over :(

I've always wanted to move to Seattle, to leave behind all that has happened here. I just love the city. What would be ideal for me is to live on Bainbridge Island (madey/Jake might know where that is, hopefully).

I mean, I love my permanent residence's city... it's not overly big, but it's not too small... it's a bit of a corporate whore (we have something like 11 7-11s in our 36-square mile city), but so what, I can live with that. It's a really good city to work, raise a family, etc.

It's just that I'm disgusted with a lot of people here, and I'm disgusted with a lot of the memories that I have here. There are far too many negative memories than there are positive memories, and it really seeps into my posting from time-to-time. I don't mean for that to be.

I would think that going across the state for uni would change, but oh no, things are like I am still back home. It's pathetic. I need to move across the nation in order for me to feel at peace with everything.

But then I realized that I don't want to go out there, find a house, move all my **** out there, and be at the total opposite end of the nation from my parents (who want to retire to Florida).

So, yeah, I don't know what I'm going to do about that. I don't even want to face anyone at high school reunions because of how bitter I am about it all.

After I get this [supposedly] fresh start somewhere, I am going to teach. It depends on what they are hiring for, since I'll be certified to teach six courses in high school. I also want to coach, preferably baseball.

I also do not plan on getting married, although maybe that will change if I move. If I don't move, then forget it. I would rather have a dog for companionship (STFU with the dog jokes, I'm serious) instead of living alone, but I do not think that any one woman would be able to love me and put up with all my ****. No one deserves that.

I also hate little kids. Can't stand them. I have no patience. I also don't want to adopt or host foreign exchange students or anything. I'm going to be busy with my job, my commitments, and then [likely] working a second job, since I will only be making something in the lines of $28,000/year.

Having said that, that's pretty much what I'm shooting for.

/long answer :-\

EDIT: Oh what the hell, I didn't know that halfassing answers was the right way of answering those questions :(

I'd live there, definitely. I love the atmosphere of the city, the people are nice, and it has weather that I really like. Some of the best summer weather is up there.

Jom
04-26-2005, 10:26 PM
The last time I was at Bainbridge Island/Seattle, they were in the middle of a "drought," where it didn't rain for something like nineteen straight days. It was very mild, something like 65-75 everyday. I could see Mt. St. Helens in the horizon everyday. The temperate forests were extremely cool (temperature-wise), it dropped about 12 degrees Fahrenheit when you went inside... it was just nice.

But again, I really don't want to have to fly across the nation, try to find a house/job/etc., come back, and then haul all my crap back. It'd be too much on an airplane, and there's no way in Hell I'd want to drive all the way there.

I plan on moving to the East coast after I'm done with uni [a while from now :-\], to either New York or Boston. Most likely New York though, because I'm most familiar with it, and I've been there somewhere around nine times, so I have a good feeling on how the people are and what the town is all about. It's like a second home.

The only real problem is that I've been spoiled with great summer and winters here, and that really wouldn't be the case over there. I hear you get used to it though.

I don't have the smallest clue on what I'm going to do as a profession.

Seattle: Never been

I'm a sentimental kind of guy, so I can see myself moving back to Chicago after graduating from college. This has little to do with the fact that Chicago is probably the best city in America, however. God I love that place. But I would not be adverse to moving to the West Coast. Sacramento, Oakland, San Fran, or San Jose most likely.

I don't know what I'm going to do with a job...I'd love to do something involved with sports (sportswriter? scout? general manager?) and I would like to be in politics eventually. I'm adament about being a father and a husband someday. If I have kids, I'm going to end up coaching high school sports (most likely basketball, I'd imagine).

Hehe, I just got kicked out of Geometry for saying "****" repeatedly. At first, I didn't mean to, I was just talking with some friends of mine, and that word seems to come out of my mouth a lot as an impulse. So the first couple of times I say "****" inadvertantly, my teacher tells me to watch my language. I say "Oh, OK. I'll stop." Next thing you know, I'm back to talking and cussing up a storm. So my teacher gets pissed and gives me a warning. I said I would stop and for a while I did. Then next thing you know, "****" reappeared in my vocabulary. So the teacher sent me outside and had me sit there. I was like "what am I, a friggin' dunce?". So I just repeatedly said "****"as loud as I could because I'm such a smartass. This school is, it's in danger of being taken over by the government.

Good thing I'm moving out the day after school ends

God, I'm too friggin' tired to argue...

So what's up? Is this thread always this slow at this time of the day?

Yep, more or less.

You could always just talk about music if you're really stuck for something to do, though.

Yeah, I'm currently doing that, wasting my breath argueing with this guy who always seems to challenge every post I make about metal. But I'm not going to make to big of a deal with it, I'm done with argueing.

Here's a map of the town I'm going to live in. Brace yourselfs for a big "holy ****".

 nice. I'm glad I did every part of the testing (that doesn't affect me anyway) yesterday. My teacher wouldn't let me come back to class...because we have to be in the same class for testing, it's like a block schedule:

Day One
Period one for 73 minutes
*
Brunch for 14 minutes
*
Testing in Period 2 for two hours (120 minutes)
*
Lunch for 34 minutes
*
Period 3 for 73 minutes
*
Period 5 for 73 minutes

Then the next day you repeat the process, but with periods 2, 4, and six. Fun, fun, fun.

(June 15, June 15, June 15...)

Brunch in school?

Only in California...

Yeah, I guess they think we need an extra nutritional period or whatever it. I'm cool with it; time off from class. Let's see...we get out 11:09...Today's pretty much an easy day for me. I've been doing nothing and haven't been in class, and next period's weight training, no hard thinking. So yeah. June 15...

We have something called "Nutrition" between 2nd and 3rd period.

It's an extra 7 minute break, so I don't mind.

Gym class ain't that bad if you're into sports.

Where do you live again? This school's gotten so much budget cuts, the cost of food is outrageous.

PA.

And yeah, I like sports, but our teacher is a Nazi.

Ah, see I've known my teacher for the past three years, and since day one I've pretty much done my own thing in that class, and he doesn't stop me. If I want to use the gym instead of going in the weight room, I'll do it. I hang out in the teacher's office all the time, watching TV and stuff, he doesn't stop me. He's my bitch

God, I can't wait for lunch...
