NFL Draft + NBA Playoffs = Good sports day.

I can't believe how badly the Vikes screwed up by taking Troy Williamson over Mike Williams.

The worst part* of having your team be the Super Bowl champs is that you have the last pick in the first round.

Also, the Pistons are really starting to run away with this game. Maybe they shouldn't have picked Darko, but they definitely shouldn't have picked Carmelo Anthony IMO. Tayshaun Prince is a very underrated player and is a much better fit for them.

I loved when Ben Wallace ripped the ball out of Webber's hands at the end of the second quarter.

Webber seriously has to be the worst big-game player in NBA history. Or second-worst after Patrick Ewing.

Jom

Big Ben could wreck anyone's ****. Seriously, he can't make a shot outside the paint, but if you need to get 10+ boards a game on both the offensive and defensive end, he's the man to go to.

I remember Webber when he was at U of M... vaguely. When he called time out when they were all out in that big game against UNC, I think he was stigmatized for the rest of his basketball career :p

Illmatic
04-23-2005, 04:10 PM
Webber is best known for this patented move he does in the crunch time of every big game:
1) He takes a pass at about the free throw line
2) He whirls around and puts his back to the basket
3) He looks frantically for someone to pass to

He seriously killed the Kings every year in the playoffs for the past few seasons...although that's not fair to say. Everybody on the Kings except for Mike Bibby freezes up in crunch time.

Don't study.

SO I went to karate today...I think I broke my body. When I finally got home I wanted to just lay down and not move all day...but instead I took a shower and bought a milkshake...so that wasn't a bad compromise. So anyways the moral of the story is to stretch before you bike 6 miles. Oh, never get in car accidents either...your back will hurt even after insurance stops paying for you to go to a chiropractor.

Oh yeah, but I fought at karate, I did surprisingly well off my 4 month or so hiatus...but there was one black belt who I would have been teaching a lesson were I in shape, but instead he was taking all sorts of cheap shots and getting away with it :-/ First he clawed my eye, then later he got me in the nose (face is not a target for us), but I got him back by uprooting a kick and hurting his groin  Anyways my fight stories probably bore you all so I'll stop :-/

Health Services at my school is terrible. I had mono and never even realized it right the end of the first semester: I fell deathly ill for four days and got hives three days after, and when trying to go to Health Services to check it out, they ask "Do you have an appointment?"
"No, can I get one?'
"We're not making appointments today. You'll have to wait."
I said, "ok" but inside I was like "stupid retarded system."

And so I couldn't wait long enough and said "**** it." I go on with my life thinking I had the flu, until I look in the back of my throat three whole weeks into winter break, discover cankerous growths on my tonsils, go to the doctor, and test positive for mono. I had had it, with its accompanying inflamed liver (which could injure/kill me if a blow to the stomach ruptures my spleen) for a WHOLE MONTH, and due to Health Services' incompetence I never realized it.

That's true, but I would put Peja behind Bibby as well. He wouldn't choke as bad as everyone else, but Bibby was always mind on ice, heart on fire.

Are you kiddin' me? Peja had the worst choke of all time. During Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals against the Lakers, it was a tie ball game with about a minute and a half and Peja airballed a wide open three from the corner.

Greg Giraldo = Best comedian ever

Not a chance.

I'm not too fond of Mitch Hedberg either, to be honest. He has some funny one-liners, but everybody who tells that many jokes is bound to tell some funny ones.

Favorite comedians: Bill Hicks, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Chris Rock, David Cross

Mitch Hedberg (RIP), Lewis Black, Brian Regan, Carlos Mencia, Dane Cook (when he isn't doing the maniacal screaming all over the place), George Carlin, Jerry Seinfeld, Tony Woods, and Chris Rock are some of my favorite stand-up comedians. I'll listen to any routine (because it doesn't really take much for me to laugh), but I would rather listen to content than volume when it comes to stand-up. The obvious exception is Lewis Black: his material is hysterical, but his delivery sort of intensifies the laughter.

Your first four are, I think, my first four, as far as stand-up comedy goes at least.

Jasper Carrott is, I think, very underrated as a stand-up. He doesn't do much political stuff, but then neither did Pryor, and he was fantastic. He's not very well known outside of England (and he's very peculiarly British in attraction, I think, helped by his Brummie accent), but even within the UK he's underrated. Possibly because he goes for a kind of anecdotal, matey comedy, rather than anything especially high-brow. It's a shame, really.

Heh. They have a male singer called Drew (who also plays guitar) and a female singer called Kathy (who also plays bass). There's only three people in the whole band.

Random fact - on record, Drew records two guitar tracks and merges them with each other, but the band only recently recruited a second live guitarist to play these extra parts. Before then, he says it was a challenge and a bit of fun to see how much of it he could play on his own :-/

"Nicolas ! You are the strongest boy in the world !"
"Well, grandma, you must be tired, so have a seat ON THIS STOOL !"

My favorite though, is his conclusion, where he talks about video games and music.

"My grandkids are going to run to me talking about the latest video game, and I'll be like, 'What? Back in my day, we played a game with a yellow circle, and it ate dots and was chased by ghosts !'

I can't wait until I'm old. I always say stuff like "This sucks !" and my mom will be all like, 'No, we don't use that language around Grandma. No.'

So this is what I'm going to do. For example:

'Grandpa, grandpa, you wanna go to the zoo with us?!'
'The zoo? **** the zoo, the zoo's gay.'
'Mom ! Grandpa called the zoo gay !'
'Shut up, faggot, don't tell on me.'

And I'll put on my Dr. Dre Chronic CD.

There's no point in just leaving it at that, though. Lots of people might think (wrongly) that they're emo, but they're wrong. Lots of people think Cradle of Filth are black metal, or that Lamb of God are death metal, or whatever, but what the majority thinks isn't necessarily the truth.

Emo means "emotional hardcore"..until someone can point out the hardcore in Bright Eyes' (or Taking Back Sunday's, or Dashboard Confessional's, or whoever's) sound, there really is no argument :)

Pornogrind takes what goregrind does and adds some extremely disturbing sexual acts into it, stripping it of all signs of decent musicianship as well. Gut and Intense Hammer Rage are prime examples of pornogrind.

sounds fun!

I've taken to calling those sorts of bands pop-emo, because it gives them a definitive genre, it fits decently well and it separates real and fake emo, though I care for neither :)

Well, the content goes beyond the lyrics themselves, too. Here's a snippet from an article:

Intense Hammer Rage had their albums seized after being produced in America. The album cover of their latest CD features a man having sex with a naked, apparently rotten, headless female.

And basically the same article:

When Tasmanian band Intense Hammer Rage sent their latest album to be manufactured by a US record label they had no idea they'd be prosecuted for importing the finished product back into Australia.

About 200 copies of the CD, Avagoyamugs were seized by Customs officers because of the extreme cover artwork and printed lyrics about child pornography and other illegal acts. The three members of the band were each fined $500 under the Customs Act in the Burnie Magistrates Court. Further charges of possessing a child abuse product and selling an objectionable unclassified publication are yet to be heard.

In sentencing, Magistrate Tim Hill said he was not punishing the men for the content of the CDs, but merely for their importation. He could find no Australian precedent for importing products like this and did not to impose the maximum $5000 penalty because the men had not profited from the imported CDs.

Singer Alan Byard says his band does "goregrind" where, "the music is going back to jazz roots, music for musicians with weird time signatures."

But yeah, it's pornogrind, basically a gross spinoff of goregrind.

So...since it's approaching summer, this means concert season is coming up. I was thinking of making an Official concert thread, where the first post would have a list of bands and links to the dates, and the other posts could be reviews. THis would require a bit of mod work as posts listing new tours would be deleted once they were added, but before I ask it in suggestions, do you guys think it'd be a good idea/work?

You'd have to divide it into different regions, IE: North America, England, Australia, but it would work in theory. Maybe instead of deleting the dates you could just edit this with a bolded "Over" or something. Also, maybe concert reviews?

To answer your questions that I've been so slow getting around to:

-I got it from too much work at the keyboard. In addition to my essays, I've been working on a bunch of short stories as well.
-It's not permanent. I bought a wrist brace at Target, so in a few days it will get better.
-Yes, I play guitar. But I can't for the next week with the brace on. Trying to strum causes me unbearable agony. Basically, my wrist can only comfortably turn about 20 degrees in any direction.
-My friends have their own problems to worry about. I'm on my own.

This is going to be a rough week.

Well, Jake, the more you put into a zip file, the greater the range between the zipped file and all the songs put together.

For example:

Motograter's s/t has 22 songs on it.

mp3 sizes:

418769
6521284
839294
7524433
370535
6232546
605965
8136224
494904
6531004
472519
6698679
926814
8810007
947717
8228829
737036
6474784
475149
7678553
602471
14335502
=
94062027

///

Packed mp3 sizes:

401500
6521284
832994
7515689
367603
6223441
601132
8112990
487993
6520244
470149
6690224
920475
8793653
940315
8117978
733010
6468559
473811
7670940
594917
14193690
=
93652591

So,

94062027 - 93652591 = 409436

It doesn't seem significant, but it helps... especially if you have a single program in a zipped file.

By the way, I also noticed YSI being quirky with me... it took me five minutes to upload a 2.2MB Therapy? song, and it usually takes me about twenty seconds or so for something of that size at uni, so yeah, I dunno what's up with that.

I've listened to Title of Record and The Almagamut and just never got into them, simply. I can't really explain why, other than that it's just not appealing to me.

Heh, I don't get that, since you love Nu-Metal and Alternative Metal so much, and then Filter is one of the bands that inspired so many of the bands that fall under those genres.

But I guess to each his own.

Not really. That one song was on the soundtrack for Underworld, but nothing really came from the project other wise.

Pity :( That had a great line up. And it gave Wes Borland a chance to shine through with an actual singer

This has been a disappointing first weekend of NBA Playoff action, despite my C's winning by 20 points.

And the Pats had a horrible NFL Draft.

I don't get the hype about him, he's original, and he's pretty good, but he's not the greatest of either of those fields.

Ok, that's more like it, you can only see the back of my head, I guess I could be confused with a woman. Not from the front though, with the facial hair and all.

Yeah.

If the picture was from the opposite angle there wouldn't be a problem.

BTW, who took that picture? Was it just some stranger? o_O

No, her parents. I've spent an awkward amount of time with her parents the last few days, it's weird. :-/

Haha, yeah ! I didn't mean that kind of spending time though. I went to play tennis with the (her) family. I suck at tennis.

Have you guys heard Europa by Satana? I started learning it on Friday and I'm about half way done. It's a very cool song.
