Good day to all of you. Well, it has happened. The big moment has arrived. I have decided to start saving, because tentatively starting on the 2 January 2006, for around 2-3 weeks, I, along with my beautiful girl friend Eleese, will be going to England! Yes, all you UK R&Mers - I can finally meet you face to face!

We have no set schedule yet, this is not part of a tour, we are simply flying to Heathrow Airport in London, making our own way around the countryside for a few weeks, and then flying back to Sydney, then back up to Cairns. As such, there is limitless possibilties to see all of you guys. And if Jelle wants to make a channel trip, he can.

So, since we are going to try to figure out a plan of travel in the next few months, anyone who wants to meet up can email @ HeavyRiva@gmail.com me there approx location, etc, and any tips for cheap accomodation in their area, best places to eat, the works.

Well, cannot wait. Gonna start saving as of today, so bye bye CD buys for a while. :)

Bumping this for the new page. Let's hope the Englishmen see it now. Also, work is really terrible. Avoid a job if you can.

IF anyone plans to visit the craphole known as Washington, hit me up. :p

(This is sarcasm, since Washington is like the most uber sucky state on the planet, minus Wyoming.)

We have a Washington here in England too, actually.

I've read through the rules, but there seem to be a lot of future bureaucrats on MX. I fear they'll find some technicality.

There's a clause in the Pit rules, which applies to all the forums really (it just isn't written in all of their rules, usefully) which says "this is not a court of law. We won't let you off on a technicality." We won't find you guilty on a technicality either; if you make a thread that's technically in the rules as not allowed, but is somehow novel and good, it probably won't be closed.

I would be down for a FG on rap/hip-hop. Only question is how well it will be recieved on a metalhead-dominated forum.

I think it'd be accepted well enough, as an FG. There are enough decent users who'd recognise the worth of such a thread, and would argue with actual reasons rather than "rap sucks, it's all just talking". Besides which, anyone who did do that could just be banned :)

/reads through thread

I really don't see why this discussion of spamming, feeling that one is or isn't a "useful... productive poster," etc., and all that other crap is still going on. It was discussed and should be dealt with. It is really not that difficult of a concept to grasp.

Don't you think that the thread is a hell of a lot better now than it has been? I can come back at any point over the course of 24 hours, and see that, at a maximum, I have to read five pages to see what's going on.

There were two instances when the thread reached a new page in less than ten minutes. That was ****ing ridiculous. People bitch about the AIM chat because "it moves too fast to my liking." Well, you have to reach a compromise somewhere down the line, because nobody owns this thread, so it can be easily shut down, closed, and forgotten about. Would spam increase in other areas? Likely, but that's the price people pay. Destiny is calling... uh, nevermind :p

Anyways, I'm glad Yogi brought it up. I like not having to go back ten pages in the morning to see posts of:

OMFG HI2U
OMG HI2U BACK
Sup thread
STFU, ur gae amirite?
omg ursorite
I no Imrite
[decent topic to discuss]
Meh, take it to Politics/Other music/the chat/etc.
STFU fag
... and so on.

Finally, the thread is starting to reach a point where someone will post a topic, and everyone reads it, it's just that people are finally exhibiting some self-control and realizing that they can't put in an empty one-liner just so they think everyone will recognize that he/she posted. Everyone is guilty of that. People like seeing that you responded to something, but if you don't have anything decent to say at all, then that opens the door for empty, pointless postcount increases. It's basically less severe than spamming the other forums, like Mind Revolution and sociallyimpaired do. They think it doesn't go undetected, but oh yeah, they'll have their postcount reset or face a ban. It's just that the mods don't care about things like that.

After talking with a few people, it's obvious that the state of the thread began deteriorating with the implementation of rep and the whoring that ensued. I remember the early stages of the first thread, when people like Rob were posting. I then took a hiatus, but then was invited back, and then the thread just started bottoming out. Now that we have rep v.2.0, things are nowhere near as painful as before.

What's sad is that people like me surpassed a lot of the regulars in the old thread (Bobo, for instance) because at least half of any posting that these people have done was in the community thread. It's disappointing when the original regular members don't have the desire to post here anymore because any visits they have, they see spamming and substanceless discussion. You can't tell me that when it takes less than ten minutes to reach a new page, that it's not spam.

With all this discussion, people are getting increasingly pissy. Just relax, this place doesn't own your soul. A lot of things are out of your control. Make due with what you have, and just accept the negative things. Yeah, I get annoyed by a lot of the sporadic posters here who are attention whores (you know who I'm alluding to, think of a user whose username is mispelled). They post here, and people ignore them. It's really not that big of a deal. The discussion that warrants discussion will be talked about, and that will be the end of it.

Most of the people don't post or don't post as much now because they don't know what it's like to have an influx of new members spamming the hell out of something they instituted.

Someone has mentioned to me in passing via AIM that a lot of us know each other pretty well, then all these masses of people come in and think it's a place to spam. I have to agree.

I don't think any of us have our qualms about a big community. I'm also very glad that most people are beginning to exhibit some self-control.

It's just that some posters need to think more about what they are posting. If it's mindless (example: no one cares that you have to seek counseling because you're ****ed up, so stop repeating it), then don't post it. If you have something positive to contribute (and there is such thing as positive spam in my eyes), then post it. You shouldn't have to think, "Oh, I shouldn't post this, but I'm going to do it anyway." Instead, I'm beginning to feel that people are starting to take peoples' wishes for less spam and more constructive posting seriously, and that's fantastic. Not every post has to be a friggin' essay, but at least have substance.

One thing that I notice and am guilty of is that when people enter the chat, they usually say hello, and maybe something else. That's not a problem, but then a whole bunch of people feel the need to say hello back, and at the very most, post a follow-up question. You don't have to lose the feeling of a community, just keep the crap out with the one-line "Hello " posts.

The worst argument that I absolutely hate to see is the "This is off-topic discussion, we can post what we want." No. Pitiful argument.

Also, just stop it with the "Oh, my posting has been challenged by the community, everyone's pointing the finger at me" horseshit. Stop whining. Apparently nobody picked up in the last thread that I was mocking people who say this, so let me be very direct: if you took that seriously, well, I don't know how to respond to that.

In essence, I'm glad that things are progressing towards a healthier community. Yeah, there will still be the sporadic idiot posters, but again, they can be ignored. However, if the thread starts regressing towards a spamfest, I would be all for deleting not only this thread, but the first one as well, as opposed to closing them and keeping the posts. Just stop whining about how you think everyone's out to get you. No one is questioning your integrity, we're all trying to be on the same page, so seriously, just stop taking what people say about you on a friggin' Internet forum to heart so much.

And with that, I'll conclude my catching up with the thread. Sup.

Five guitars...waha...

I have like 3 acoustics, but a lot of them need re-stringing, I have my strat which is my "experimental guitar" which is in random tunings, sometimes whichever letters I can think of ("FADBAD" etc) and my Les Paul, which I absolutley love...That's usually in standard tuning, and I always use this for gigs.

And I went out today, I saw an absolute beauty, 12 string Yamaha...I did well not to buy it, cheap as hell, only £80 actually.

But yeah, no jokes about Liverpool :upset:.

Pigonthewing:
How would you go about using a Zippo lighter as a slide? Unless your guitar is acoustic, I'd be incredibly careful about the overall finnish, a zippo lighter could really do some damage.

AND, I would post a picture of my two slides, one is litterally a neck of a broken green bottle, it's (well, was) my uncle's, and is older than me :p . The other is a Chrome Dunlop bright tone. Cheap, but it does the trick.

I don't have enough money to throw away at an instrument I'm not that good at, and don't play primarrily.

Nah you just use it as a regular slide only you have to hold it down with your finger so its not as easy to use. A couple people in the 60's did it, like Syd Barrett, you can use the Zippo to get really cool effects out of it too.

So I went to an exhibit at another college to check out the Petra exhibit.

Here is a link: Petra exhibit (http://www.calvin.edu/petra/).

It was for extra credit, which is something I desperately need for this class.

Well, I have to say, I thought it was going to be boring as hell, but it was actually rather interesting. The inhabitants there were extremely skilled and crafted out various aqueducts and things... and all the channels expanded for miles and miles. I guess it's comparable to the Incans and the Mayans and their developments, even though the city was founded in the 14th century-ish.

Anyways, it was just cool. It wasn't discovered until the 19th century, so to go for over five-hundred centuries without being located on a map, especially of a city with such an amazing construction (everyone was built out of the cliffs in modern-day Jordan).

Unfortunately, the entire city was struck with a devestating earthquake in 363 AD, and so all that's left are the artifacts at said exhibit. I also learned about the lost wax method of sculpture.

I was just really surprised.

I think the new one is a Yamaha Aes820

Wow, the Aes is a decent enough guitar I should say, I want a twelve string acoustic Yamaha so bad right now...It's like the only kind of guitar I'm missing, I have an electric, a Bass, an Acoustic and an electrocoustic. Maybe (deffinitley:p) for my birthday.

Question: What's the general opinion on people from Manchester? Because one of my brother's faltmates didn't seem to think too highly of them :-/

To be honest, my experience with Mancs?/Mancunians? is limited. I've met some, but I've never spent any decent amount of time in Manchester that wasn't just catching a plane out of there. To me Manchester is just one of many vague southern cities that I know little about.

They make some good music occasionally, though.

Nice to see a Bowie fan.

And yeah, I have that Clash Album, it's decent enough, and the Clash are possibly (maybe excepting the Stooges) the only Punk band I like.

it. Stop whining. Apparently nobody picked up in the last thread that I was mocking people who say this, so let me be very direct: if you took that seriously, well, I don't know how to respond to that.[/font]

You are aboslutely right. I shouldn't have been whining last night, and I regret it now.

I'd much rather have this be a place where discussion goes on, instead of pages and pages of posts with no substance.

I'm going to work on posting more meaningfully.

On a side note, I downloaded Quicktime and saw your latest video, dude.

Trent Reznor released Nine Inch Nail's new single as a Garageband score, allowing fans to remix and mess with it. I am thinking about doing this. I think Cain should too, because I know for a fact he uses Garageband.

So I'm done with the California State Standardized Testing...actually I just gueesed on all of them, I wasn't in Geometry for the whole year so I forgot most of all the crap that was on there. So I got done early, of course, and I had my lunch with me (because we had a short brunch period before testing). I finished my Coke and pretzels and went to throw my trash away. As I was in the process of throwing the crap away, my teacher (Geometry teacher) told me to sit down. I said "why, I'm throwing my crap away" and he said "that's it, get out of here". So, I gladly obliged.

So after I walked around for the past half hour or so, walking of campus, etc...I visited my old Biology teacher and here I am now. This has been a weird day.

I can only think of good bands/artists from Manchester, or from most places, actually. Except maybe The Stone Roses. I suppose I just never find out the origins of bands I don't like as much as those I do. Which bad bands that I might have heard come from there?

Not really bands, more like albums now that i think about it.

Oasis being the prime example. Elbow are another. Inconsistent.

I was counting Oasis as "good", since they've had good albums. They just also had really bad ones, yeah.

Apart from those already mentioned, I had Happy Mondays, Joy Division, New Order, A Certain Ratio, (most of which I don't actually like that much, but I can see how many do like them). I had some more too, but I can't think of them.

EDIT: Maybe Simply Red. I think they (or at least the main guy) were from Manchester.

Hi, another update on an american keyboard from my sister's boyfriend's college near Koblenz, DE. German girls in general are unattraqctive although there are a few. Probably because Germany is a mutt country like the US. I did see a group of Italians (or portugese, my sister didn't hear enough to be able to tell and her Italian is terrible)in a museum and there was one girl who was gorgeous.

2 nights ago my family went to a resturant with ourt hosts (a German family my parents are staying with, one of which is a coworker of my sister) to a super German resturatn. I had basically a leg of pork which was great but huge and my parents, for the first time ever, got me drunk. I am truly a lightweight. 2 beers (at .5 l each here in Germany as opposed to .35 l in the US) an 3 schnapps shots. I hate schnapps. They say it is supposed to be a fruit but tastes and smells like alcohol.

Also..... people in Germany, at least more than at home like metal! I had a long talk with one of my sisters students about power metal. I'm not really a fan but he really likes Blind Guradian and Rhapsody. It was cool. Also, I've kept my kraut consumption to a minimum but I really like weissbier (wheat beer). Bleh, sorry to read you're sick.

Things were looking pretty bleak in regards to the thread continuing to exist on account of excess spamming and arguing amongst members. That has since died down, and posts are becoming more constructive, with a lot of feedback and other things. It's a welcome change.

Basically, things were very much unlike the beginnings of the first comm. thread, but now it's returning back to a more community-like deal with much better posting.

What are you ill with, any idea?

I started smoking again yesterday, I had three smokes yesterday and one today and now everytime I swallow it feels like I'm swallowing razor blades. Not to mention I've not slept more than 5 hours a night this week, which used to be nothing but meh, I'm getting old.

So I've quit smoking again.

Glad to hear the forum is becoming better, I just looked in the pit and it seems as garbage as it ever was.

Maybe I'll start posting again.

The Pit has really been suffering, but that's because there are a lot of idiots who keep getting banned, and after each successive account, get exponentially more annoying. There hasn't been anyone, really, to put them in their places, save for the bannings.

This particular forum has drastically improved, in my eyes. The "in" thing to do recently was to post rules on how to make R&M better... you probably remember writing your version. The others were good, but they weren't close to touching yours in both the humor and seriousness departments.

There just have been a lot more better threads than crappy threads.

Beware of a number of annoying-as-hell users, though. Surprisingly, there have been a lot of newer posters who are rather intelligent in both the arts and the academics. ArrestThisMan is a prime example, as is MXican. pigonthewing is proficient at classic rock. I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but those are the three big '05ers who are significant contributors.

Germany and Iceland are quite fantastically different countries though, not to mention rather far apart.

I realize that, but I felt the need to put in some input. I've only been to three European countries: Iceland, England (is it okay to call it that? I realize you like to call yourselves Britain or the UK), and Ireland. I've never actually been to the European mainland, even though I've love to see Italy, Germany, Scandanavia, Denmark, and the Netherlands.

Yeah, it's fine to just say England. I just say England (and I think Scots would say they're from Scotland, not the UK, etc). I don't think it's so much that we like to call ourselves the UK, it's just that that's what the four little bits are technically known as.

What is every ones plans for the week end, that is if you have any thing special goin' on?

I know that I am going to a party and relaxing for once over week end, since I really haven't had a break from doing things for about 3 straight week ends.

Also my sword that I ordered over 90 days ago is finally going to get here next week. Very excited and glad that it will be here soon...

Also shopping around for some pickups and think I am set on getting some EMG's for my guitar. But if any one has any other suggestions to check out, tell me, because I want to research every thing before I buy them, but my pup's now are just shot and give out crappy tone...and they need to replaced like within the next week.

You get photobucket. Then you find a pic you want, right click and save it. Then you put it in photobucket. Then, you press the reply button on these wonderful forums, and in the box you type your text, you will see a box with a yellow thing in it, click it and another box will pop up, go to photobucket and copy the pic URL and paste it in the box.

No, it happened a couple weeks ago, and I've tried to work things out with her, but she's basically incapable of dealing with any relationship on an elevated level. Apparently it's typical of her to get very awkward when she likes a guy and then she just breaks it off with him until it blows over. I found this out from her friends after it happened to me.

Have you ever had the feeling where a girl can be nice to you one moment and then a complete bitch the next? [sic]

Oh sure, all too well. It isn't so much of a problem at uni, but in high school, it was really disheartening falling out of friendships with people because of how they (or I) changed. I'm sure people remember my story from the last thread where I asked if it was worth it or not to keep being friends with that one girl when she hasn't done anything to prove to me that she appreciates our friendship... and basically everyone said to let it go, and I've done just that. I ran into her at a party when I was home for spring break, and she said maybe two words to me, and I didn't even say anything back. It really hurt, but I made it through.

Hahahaha, nice, Ray

I wouldn't expect anything less from ya.

I've been fortunate (I dunno if that's the rightword exactly) to not have to deal with a relationship, but if they're anything like the friendships I had that died, I probably wouldn't want to dare risk anything.

I mean, say two friends decide to date. Something goes wrong. People think, "Oh, they'll still be friends." Uh, yeah, that never happens. At least, not with any of my friends who went through something like that. It's just such a balancing act, and I'm always thinking that I would be stupid enough to screw something up with it, and I wouldn't forgive myself for it.

On another note:

I settled for this picture (http://www.toothpastefordinner.com/041605/belize-barbados-bhutan-bali.gif) to be my background for my blog, because I'm that friggin' lazy.

I don't think anyone actually assumes people will remain friends when they start dating. It's widely known that once two friends make the leap into a couple, there's really no turning back. The only friends that survived a breakup were Jerry and Elaine on "Seinfield", and they were fictional characters on a TV show for ****'s sake.

I'll tell you what's wierd: when two of your friends date and then break up. That happened to me this year. I had no idea whose side to take.

On another note:

I settled for this picture (http://www.toothpastefordinner.com/041605/belize-barbados-bhutan-bali.gif) to be my background for my blog, because I'm that friggin' lazy.

That's a very interesting fact I learned about you just now.

That happens to everybody. I would be lying if I said that didn't happen sometimes when I think of my exes. I don't think you can ever actually completely get over a girl. It's just not possible.

Also, two developments. One will only effect me, the other may effect the rest of you
1) that friend who I've been telling you all about, she has a boyfriend now! that brings up some mixed feelings in me, personally.
2) FOX is going to run "American Dad" in "Arrested Development"'s timeslot at least next Sunday, maybe for longer. This sucks, because "Arrested Development" is a very funny TV show and "American Dad" blows.

What can I say?

Sports were my first love....music came in after my friends introduced me to weed in 8th grade.

Nah, I think that's a good mix. I don't think people should exhibit only one side, they need to be as multi-dimensioned as they wish to be (or can handle)... so, the arts (either fine arts or performing arts), sports, academics, social qualities, etc., I would say are important characteristics one should have.

Heh, maybe I'm just oblivious to things like that... it just always seems that when friends begin dating, people say, "Aww, I'm happy for them, but if things falter, then they can still be good friends." I'm just saying I hate people like that.

That is indeed a weird and uncomfortable situation to be in... especially if both of them come to you and tell you different sides of the story. It's hard to be unbiased, I suppose.

That's a very interesting fact I learned about you just now.

If by "interesting" you mean "fun," then outstanding

I guess I don't blame you after all you guys have been through as friends and helping her out and how you say she felt that you "abandoned" her to go to uni. I mean, maybe it'll be good for her, but I can imagine that you want what's best for her, and you don't want the guy to be some total douche who treats her like crap, I'd imagine.

Well, yes, there are people like that in every situation. The term for them is "Stupid people".

That is indeed a weird and uncomfortable situation to be in... especially if both of them come to you and tell you different sides of the story. It's hard to be unbiased, I suppose.

That is precisely what happened. It turned into "He said, she said"...I didn't know who was telling me the truth (or the closest to it), so I had to stand back and be an impartial observer, which was tough because I consider both parties to be good friends.

Man, sometimes I feel like Morgan Freeman, just a brother who has the misfortune of having to sit and listen to white people's problems :p

I think American Dad will be good for a while. They will probally find room for Arrested Development, they wouldn't drop it.

From what I have seen, American Dad is horrible...a second-rate Family Guy with dated political humor. "Osama, is that you?" all they were missing was an Al Gore recount joke.

Nothing I love more than those quirky, offbeat blog names!

Well, they're comic sites, not blog things. My friend just recommended them to me because they have good pictures for backgrounds... so I checked them out.

Toothpaste for Dinner has some pretty amusing captions, but Exploding Dog is just too weird for my tastes. With the latter, you e-mail a title to the author, and he constructs a drawing using your title. He really contorts your title, though... for example, if you said, "Rain pounding on my door," he would draw raindrops knocking on your door. He also seems to take suicide a bit lightly, and even though it's a cartoon... it's just... bizarre.

I'm Morgan Freeman.

I don't know for sure if she actually feels that way...that's just me putting unnecessary guilt and burden on myself. I seem to do that a lot. I'm not sure why.

The thing that worries me the most about this situation is that I fear that she'll turn to the boyfriend more than me for the advice. It sounds selfish, I know. But I probably know more about her than this guy ever will :-\

I also have to say Ulver's Perdition City is my new favorite album right now, and it's not even a metal album, it's a trip hop/electronica album. Only thing that sucks about it though, Garm doesn't use his incredible voice much on it though...

Oh no, when I think of Morgan Freeman helping people out, I think Red helping Andy Dufresne get by in Shawshank Prison, or crutsy detective William Somerset working alongside David Mills to catch serial killer John Doe

Well, today was interesting.

The whole band decided to enjoy our Friday night, so we called up our usual dealer to buy a 20-sack. A couple hours later, Josh and Krista drove off to go pick it up, and Seth, Danielle and I were left at the house. I went into the band room to play guitar for a few minutes, and when I walked back into Josh's room, Seth just about his hand down Danielle's pants.

A quick insert: We have a very strict band rule about relationships in the group. We've made it three and a half years without a problem, so I can't figure out why there's one now.

I went outside to think about what I walked in on and have a cigarette, and while I was out there, Josh and Krista pulled up. After they told me we were having some problems getting our shizzle, I told them about what happened. We decided (Josh and I) that I should give Seth a lesson in respect.

We went back inside and back to Josh's room. I told Seth to stand up, so he stands up. I tell him to walk up close to me, so he does. Then I tell him, "Look me straight in the eyes and tell me you didn't break our number one rule." He can't tell me and keep eye contact. I shrug my shoulders and sock him one. He looked like he was ready to fight back when Danielle jumped up between us. After pushing her out of the way and then having her tell me that if I touched her again she was going to punch me in the face, it turned into a bout of words.

Now that all is said and done, we have practice again in three days. This should be interesting.

Other cool ones:

People tend to forget that the Suns initially drafted Steve Nash all the way back in '96, and traded him to Dallas for Martin Muursepp, Bubba Wells the draft rights to Pat Garrity and a first round draft choice in 1999 (ewww) (http://www.jersey-joe.com/store/ksps97h13.html)

KJ was my boy back in the 90's...I remember when he and Kidd were in the same backcourt. God I loved that team (http://www.jersey-joe.com/store/ksps93h07.html)

Before Shaq and Wade, before Shaq and Kobe, there was Shaq and Penny on the Magic. Those were some solid Magic teams--Nick Anderson, Dennis Scott, Horace Grant...I'd be lying if I said I didn't like 'em (http://www.jersey-joe.com/store/mag93h32.html)

For a very brief time period, Bernard King was a supernova, an unstoppable scorer who could do anything offensively. I remember watching his duel with Isiah in the '84 playoffs on ESPN Classic and being riveted. Knee injuries took him too soon. (http://www.jersey-joe.com/store/blt91h30.html)

What diehard NBA fan doesn't remember AI crossing up Jordan in his rookie year? I can play that over and over again in my head. That, and Antoine's b-e-a-yootiful turnaround jumper-and-the-foul on Jordan in the season opening C's-Bulls game are my fondest memories of that season. Not because I hate Jordan, but because it was great seeing rookies play that well on him. It showed that the NBA had a bright future (http://www.jersey-joe.com/store/six97r03.html)

Don't you ever get that? You sneeze, and then your arms hurt afterwards? And not just because sneezing makes you bang your arm on a desk or something. It's like the core of my arms (the bone, or around the bone, or something) just aches for a good few minutes after 70-80% of my sneezes. Because it's not a surface pain, I can't rub it to try and make it go away quicker either. Just have to sit it out. :(.

Anyway, when you asked that, my arms were better. But then I sneezed again, so I'm sitting here in pain, again.

And I think I also may upload a random song. After yours has had it's glory, naturally.
