I think the other dvd is called like, "live in orange county"...idk something or another with orange county. Great band, i've always thought that they were the best at combining punk music with older rock music.

Social D is what rock and roll is all about: music, women, booze, and making it sound like it's the everyman's story. The people I work with never heard of them or listened to any of their stuff, but over the course of playing all of their albums, almost all of them have come to like them because they can identify with the songs, and there isn't anything better than a little rockabilliy and some punk to make things a little more interesting than the same old Kenny Chesney crap.

MIKE NESS IS MY HERO
every social d song speaks to me in a way nothing else can, whenever i'm down i listend to social d, my favorite album is either their s/t or White heat white light white trash, i get to see them live next month and i can't wait. the band that i play in has heavy social distortion influence.
for the guy that hates Social Distortion, tell me what is there to hate, they can be hardcore, they can be slow, they have perfect harmony and Mike Ness has the coolest voice ever. Sure Beats the crap out of those high voice pop punk little bastards.

It's also cool watching them now and Mike saying, "I wrote this song when I was 20!" and they kick into Mommy's Little Monster. The realllllly old stuff from when he was a kid is so much better now with Mike's 40-year-old, raspy, cigar-smokin' voice.

I like them a lot. Have seen 'em several times and Mike Ness solo, too. I like most of there stuff, although Ness is a bit sensitive with the lyrics these days. And his twelve step stuff tends to creep in more often. Especially on White Light, White Heat, White Trash. I've never really thought of them as a punk band, though. But then again that goes for a lot of "punk" bands I like .
Anyone like Mike Ness's Country - Hillbilly music influenced solo stuff? I dig it :thumb:

So yeah, i saw them last week, on tuesday. The opening bands were decent, the lost city angels and the eyeliners. Social D came on, and opened with Mommies little monster...wow. The show was overall, preatty good, especially since it was only 15 bucks. But i was a little dissapointed in that they didnt play much of their faster stuff, like Telling Them, Don't Drag Me Down, The Creeps. The only song they played off White Light was Under My Thumb. They didnt even play bad luck...
But don't get me wrong, they were great, and at the end, when they played story of my life...wow. I must honestly say that they closed a show better than anyone I've ever seen live. The new bass player is cool i guess, haha he looks like a fat Quentin Tarentino. After the show we met the "replacements" haha, meaning the Old *** Drummer, the new guitar player, and the new bass player.... Mike Ness never came out, but oh well. Seeing that he's like, 40 some years old, I have to admire him, he can still put on such a great show. If they're coming to your town, i'd definitely reccomend seeing them.

I don't know if it's heroin acutally, somebody told me the reason why the Sacramento and Santa Barbara shows were cancelled was because of his drug problem. Thats probably just a rumor, although I wouldn't be surprised.

Yeah, pretty fast. They were cool, have you ever heard them?
I'd say they sound kind of like Lars Frederiksen and the bastards, but with a singer who kinda screamed a little more, and looked like he belonged in My Chemical Romance or something... But yeah, they were a cool band, for sure... The bass player was like, this big, hairy, sasqutch monkey man. haha

at the venue we saw them, the fuc'kface bouncers were kicking people out for moshing, and because LCA was opening, the crowd wasnt that into them.
I think that they should tour with someone else, because a lot of the Social D crowd isn't even into a band like that.
But with the no moshing **** at the show, at the end when they 0played Story of My Life, holy ****. The crowd turned into one big pit, and there was nothing they could do...
favourite songs would have to be
Story Of My Life
When The Angels Sing

Dude, Social Distortion is my favorite band of all time. I started out listening to them, and they still are just as great as they were then. There is not one song by them that I don't like, they are one of the few bands that I can put in their album and listen to it straight through numerous times. I saw them last october when Matt Freeman was playing bass for them, and Tiger Army opened. It was an absolutely excellent show.

Yea, the eyeliners did suck. After the show some dude was trying to sell thier cd to my friend, she was very drunk, and kept going on and on about how bad they sucked, so this guy was like, ''well you see this girl on the cd? thats my wife!'' So my friend was like, ''oh honey, thats so great that you have a wife who can open up for Social D'' He was pretty offended and walked away.

Social D friggin' rocks. Mike Ness has probably some of the best lyrics around. And like that guy up there said, their songs are very emotional and powerful. their new album is awesome! So are their two dvd's.
First the documentary 'Another State of Mind' (the song mike ness wrote on the tour). It's about social distortion and youth brigade touring through america in the summer of '82. Minor Threat also has a part in the film. The film isn't all about the bands, it's also about the people that go to punk shows. They got interviewd and it's really cool done. It gives a good impression of punk back in the day.
Their is a commentary on the film by mike ness, youth brigade and the directors. A good extra.
Then you have their live dvd in orange county which is nice too.
