Hi.

I'm in the market for buying a new synthesizer, and I have found a few moderately priced synths that will cover my needs.

I was originally debating over the micro korg, the alesis micron and the korg kontrol, but I weeded out the micro korg because of its tiny, tiny keys.

so now I am debating between the korg kontrol and the alesis micron.

the micron definitely has the looks and the sound, but it doesn't have many buttons, so I feel like it would be pretty hard to program, whereas the korg kontrol has many buttons that lead me to believe that the keyboard would be easier to program. both are 400 dollars.

since I really don't know which one I want, if anyone could help out and tell me what their views on the keyboard are, it would be greatly appreciated.

The Kontrol is a MIDI controller, where the Micron has built-in sounds. If you want good sounds, go for the Micron. If you already have MIDI gear, your looking at the Kontrol.

thanks a lot.

I really don't know anything about keyboards. I just know that I want one that will make cool sounds. Right now I'm tinkering with a yamaha from the 80's.

and what the **** is MIDI?

I see it all the time, but what is it?

Don't mind him, he just said that because he doesn't know.

MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. Here's a definition I found on Google: "MIDI: An industry-standard interface used on electronic musical keyboards and PCs for computer control of musical instruments and devices."

In other words, it's using the computer to make "artificial" music. It sounds great if you have the right soundcard, but it's no substitute for real music. :)
