Yes, I know I kind of posted the same thing in the pit before, but I figured in here would get more help. Last night, I was listening to music on my computer and it suddenly restarted. When it was booting up, at the black screen right before the XP loading screen, it said Primary master failed, and that I should replace the hard disk drive soon because a failure is going to happen very soon. Can anyone tell me exactly what happened/how to fix it?

Well that doesnt sound good, you'll probabaly want to pick up a replacement drive ASAP. The drive might be corrupted or damage may have occured during a write. I've had an HD die while I was on the PC and let m,e tell you it wasnt fun. I lost over 40 gigs of music with that crash and NOTHING to back them up. Back up your important files now while you can.

Thanks for the info there. Any suggestions on what to back it up to?

What if the damaged/corrupt file is one that I backup?

I wouldnt worry about that.

It's probably physical disk damage anyway.

Yea excellent drive, make sure you have a SATA drive and not SCSI though, alot of people order the wrong drives.

If you don't you can get a cheap SATA controller here.

Im not amazing with cpomputers but something just may be wrong with your BIOS (that black screen with all the white writing). Most computers when you buy them come with a boot disk which is usally a floppy, you shoudl try finding it and booting from that, that fixed my computer when I had a fairly similar problem.

Get a Seagate HD, they make the best ones out there. Or if you feel like spending some cash you could go for a Raptor 10,000rpm.

A good Seagate to look it, this one is 80 gigs.

Western Digital, still makes good HD's, this is a 73 gig 10,000rpm. Not really needed unless you have cash to burn and like top of the line stuff.

The Seagate looks like a good choice. Better than the one I looked at up there?

Personally I'd say Seagates make better HD's so yeah. That one up there is 120 gigs, I don't know what size your looking for but I'm sure Seagate will have what ever size you want.

I would recommend getting a Seagate if you can, I've had almost no problems with them in the past years. Dont forget to back up the pr0n. :thumb:
