Who likes Horror films?

Post here to rant and rave about your favourite horror films, and why you love them so much.

I must say, I enjoy japanese horror films greatly, they have a great style to them. I watched the Ring 2 this morning, the original japanese version. Im waiting with anticipation for the American version to come out, but I am aware that they may have ruined it.

I dont like the way the American directors take the subtlty out of the films, the all encompassing fear of the orignal will likely be taken away as the Director shows us the ghost Sadako at every oppertunity.

Anyway, what are your favourite horror films?

I love em and will watch pretty much anything in the horror genre good or bad. I perfer the older style movies before CGI crap and lame hollywood quick cam productions. But overall im a huge fan.

Obviously a halloween fan got Doc loomis for an avatar

I still haven't seen The Ring 1 yet :upset:

I love the '50's 'Creature Feature' films.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Films such as Halloween and Night Of The Living Dead are how horror films should be made. Without all the stupid CGI effects ruining the plot.

I like some horror, mainly the really old cheesy kind. I'm not into the stuff that'll scare the **** out of you. Zombie movies are the greatest.

It's hard to say really, I could never specificaly point to one movie and say it was the best. For me night of the living dead really had a big effect, there was nothing like that and it's dismal zero hope for the character presentation can't be beat. It's just a pure horror film to the root.

The first halloween was great too, it was filmed and excuted perfectly leaving the viewer with an incredible uneasy and paranoid feeling. It was also faily realistic with the sneaking and stalking portions, you can't screw with mikey ;)

He had one of my all time fav's actually, when he put that chick in the sleeping bag and did a giant swing with it and slammed her into a tree haha man that was great!

On Halloween every year here, there's a Nightmare On Elm Street marathon on TV. I can remember the first time I watched it when I was like 10 and being scared shitless. Great movies though.

Yeah CGI is ruining a lot of good things. Take Top Gun for example. There will probably NEVER be a military movie with that kind of filming EVER again. It costs too much, especially when you can BS it in CGI. :thumb:

And I miss the old school horror movies with the crappy special effects. It made it ten times scarier. :thumb:

Creepshow rocks man, the creature in the crate is my fav. story but, seeing Stephen King play a stupid hillbilly brings a smile to my face. :)

Speaking of Stephen King, what do we think about his books turned into movies?

I must say the best was Maximum Overdrive (ok ok, I know it wasen't a book)and if you dissagree here are my reasons:

- Soundtrack entirely by AC/DC
- Actually had a creepy looking truck (The Green goblin looking one)
- Yeardly Smith is in it and I'm pretty sure she voices Lisa Simpson
- An ATM calls Stephen King (in his cameo) an asshole
- Kid getting run over by a steamroller followed by the head split scene
- Guy gets shot in the balls by a pop vending machine
- and of course EMILIO!

Ok, after reading that, how could you not like it? It's pure cheese fun.

Top gun was ace, with all of those real jets.

I agree, CGI has taken a lot of skill out of hands on film making, take Carpenter's "The thing", it was all done with make up, 1 robot and a tiny bit of stop animation, it didnt have all the big money of todays productions, but it was still ace.

Has anyone seen The remake of "The toolbox Murders"?

I hear itsa grisly horror film, remade by the same people that remade the Texas Chainsaw massacre, so it should be good. They do it old skool, with no CG

Yeah, that's cube. The deaths are really inventive. I loved one in the beggining where a guy is cut up into peices by wire mesh. Really effing cool.

Thirteen Ghosts was cool too. I laughed so hard when the guy got cut in half by the glass door in the basement. I was like:" WOW that would NEVER happen  "

I loved the American Remake, and for that they used the same director as the orginal, but gave him a bigger budget, so the original should kick *** amirite? It is way better. I saw Ju-On: The Grudge before I saw the American version. I think that the American version sucks compared to the original. All the suspenseful build-up was stripped away for the casual 14 second American attention span.

And I just watched A Tale of Two Sisters, that movie was freaky. The end just completely blows you away, but makes sense if you pick it apart. The more disturbing scenes are the dinner scene, the dream scene, and one of
Su-Yeon's scenes.

The Eye wasn't so bad either. It has a great atmosphere to it. I thought the calligraphy scene was spine tingling. The flashbacks of the village were intense, had to be worse for the clairvoyent woman. And the "Help me Mother" scene was nerve-racking.

That's what I like about Asian horror movies, it's more psychological and character driven, rather than American studios and their flashy special effects and visual scares.

That entire time I was thinking "...turn...around!!".That was pretty intense, I was hoping for the elevator to hurry up, and then the light slowed down at 7. But the guy slowly moved over, and then the camera shows his feet, which weren't on the ground.

That was also another intense scene, and the report card kid was just weird.

I liked how the camera was out of focus to show us how it looks like through her eyes when there's a freaky part.
