Ya I got this yesterday. It's a comprehensive view of Thrice's career up until today plus music videos, a b-sides CD, and some amazing live videos. A lot of the songs have modifications or alternate/added endings that are just amazing. A lot of them are really brutal too. I like that they don't aspire to be a jam band or anything but manage to rearrange their songs and keep them fresh live. I recommend this thing to anyone. Anybody else have it?

It mentions the LA area but doesn't talk about Irvine. There are shoutouts and mentions of all the venues and random local shows they played. Footage of it too.

But it's lame how they mention the LA area when they are from Irvine and Irvine isn't really that close to LA. Did it mention Chain Reaction/Showcase Theatre/Glasshouse?

No no. I meant the whole LA area, including Orange County and Irvine. At one point when Riley is talking about touring in Europe he says, "little band from Orange County" despite being from Irvine. They speak very broadly in terms of geography because they were local to everybody around that area. They mention the Chain Reaction and smaller ones like Kono's (don't know how to spell it sort of don't remember?).

I thought they just said they were from LA or something. Yeah, it's weird how they went to my high school and some of the teachers remember having them in class. Now they're the big thing for a lot of people. My friend actually lives down the street from their bassist, but he never sees him.

No dude. Thrice is amazing. The acoustic adaptations are really great. I saw Dustin Kensrue live over the summer and he has a great ability for acoustic conversion. His versions of "Round Here" by Counting Crows and "Creep" by Radiohead destroyed.

"Madman" is a b-side from the Identity Crisis days. "Freedom" and "Opaque" are First Impressions songs. "I've Just Seen a Face" is a Beatles cover from a compilation... I can't remember the name.

I watched the DVD today, and it reconfirmed why Thrice is my favorite band ever. I was blown away... completely blown away. Nick's comments on the back of the cd were amazing. I absolutely love this band, and I will never stop loving them. I think DFelon is probably the only other person here who realizes how spectacular Thrice is. Thrice is going to be one of the few bands from this "scene" that we will all remember in twenty years. Their outlook, their lyrics, and their music are truly hard to find in most bands these days. These guys are geniune, and no matter how big they get, they will always, always be in it for the right reasons.

As for the EP-- I've had all those songs for a few years, but it's always nice to have mastered versions. "That Hideous Strength" has always been a favorite of mine.

Actually, Madman wasn't a B-side it was supposed to be track 10 on Identity Crisis (listen to the sort of piano + background conversation that blends it into the CD) but they took it out last minute for the rerelease on SubCity. Bad decision. I like that song a lot.

04-05-2005, 07:29 AM
My bad. That sounds correct.

I was somewhat surprised that they didn't put "Madman" or "Lockstep" on the EP.

Also, the new version of "So Strange..." is amazingly soothing. I'd love to hear a mastered version.

Lockstep is a ****ty song. It's probably the only song I don't like by them. The stuff off First Impressions isn't that good either, but that's partially because of the production. From the acoustics I heard the were all really good. Especially Stare at the Sun.

To be honest, I don't like FATA much anymore. I thought they were so hardcore and original, but I've found a lot of better bands since. They were the band that got me into hardcore, metalcore, emo and whatever else, so I guess they're alright.

I like Thrice a lot better though. They're the best at combining hardcore and pop-punk, IMO. They make it seem so easy. Even though there are tons of bands that have the same style as Thrice, Thrice somehow sound different than the other "popcore" bands, if that makes any sense.

i've only seen Thrice live once, and that was only one song, the opener.

it was at Reading festival last year, and they were late coming on. there was another band on at the same time i wanted to see so i just wanted to watch Thrice for a few songs then go see other band, bingo. 20 minutes late, they opened with Under a Killing Moon, not sure everyone was really ready for them. picture the scene, everyone really spaced out, arms folded, then they came out, "hey we're Thrice, you might like this" then boom, everyone just rushed forward, a 40ft gap opened up. i don't usually get into pits, i always get really hurt, but i couldn't miss out on this one, it was insane! just this massive 40ft gap, swept right across the width of the field broke out, and everyone went insane, it was quite an experience. i got mullered in the pit, so i just left and went to the other tent to watch YCNI:M. i'll see them again sometime i hope.

I went to show in Bakersfield this past Feb. and they played about 6 or 7 new songs. It's a lot heavier than any of their older stuff. Some GREAT singalongs and amazing riffs and progressions. My most anticipated album since IOS.

I think T&C is the best song off IC. It's way better than the FI verison. That's really good to hear that Thrice will be trying more experimental stuff. Usually when a band gets popular they start to suck, so I'm glad they're trying new things.

Dustin has one of the sickest screams ever....and there isnt a whole lot of effect in it (ive seen them live about 7 times and he hits the scream ALWAYS)

I think they are gunna keep writting the same style of music as TAITA (riffs for everything) and i dont relly know if they are going more "melodic" or not...i wouldnt let the fact that they released a couple of accoustic tracks make you think that

I just saw the DVD and it was really good. The funniest part is where Riley sees, graffiti all over the place and it says "chico for life" and then this guy on a motorcycle is all acting all shady and stuff, and he's like there's chico admiring his work. Then, when they were in Norway or Germany or something, they read all the signs in different languages. It's so funny. You have to see the DVD to get it.

Thrice are one of the greatest things ever to happen to hardcore. They are my first and favorite hardcore band and always will be. Identity Crisis is such an amazing album. As far as albums go, Identity Crisis > Illusion of Safety > Artist in the Ambulance.
All of them are still amazing albums. Identity Crisis was my first hardcore album too.

I don't think I need to set up any links. If you haven't heard them listen to them and discuss.

No dude. Thrice is amazing. The acoustic adaptations are really great. I saw Dustin Kensrue live over the summer and he has a great ability for acoustic conversion. His versions of "Round Here" by Counting Crows and "Creep" by Radiohead destroyed.

Sometimes Thrice can be amazing. Their attempts at emo suck though.

Do you mean songs like Trust, Stare at the Sun, and TAITA cause they aren't emo. None of their songs are emo. I'd say Thrice have more of a post-hardcore influence.

They're not horrible. They're singer is a great screamer but his singing voice pisses me off. It's so whiny!

Says alklinesk8erboi. Hhahaa. His voice is more gruff than most singers this side of Marc Paffi (Bear vs. Shark) and Chuck (HWM).

IOS>TAITA>IC. Thats it.

This is true. Although it's hard for me to say because IC was one of my first hardcore CD's and along with it is attached a lot of memories.

This is the truth though.

I can't wait either. The Fall of Troy and Thrice are bands that were REALLY important over the course of my musical life.

No!!! I don't want to hear an adultered version. I listened to a few 10 second clips from TAITA and realized that wasn't gonna do it so I deleted them. Then I went on a month long trip to Alaska and the CD was released the day I got bad to Juneau. I bought it and dug it so hard. It ruled better that way. Trust me.

I'm gonna be patient and wait for the CD.

I know that when you actually buy the CD when it first comes out it's just more fun and exciting than downloading a leaked version, but since Thrice kept putting off the release date it's tempting to get the leak if there will be one. It was supposed to come out in August.
