Well I've never posted in here before but I want to get some other peoples thoughts on this. So my band needs a new Pa system (yeah I know theres a thread for them but this is diffrent) we also do a fair bit of recording, at the moment we have all our instruments mic'd through the pa (old, cheep) and then we take a studio out from that into a hard disk record to do demos and work on songs before we get the down in a proper studio, or jsut to work on them. The quality isnt amazing and we have recently (not that recently) gone from a 3 peice to a 5 peice and are streched for channels and power.

Out looking for new sytem I came across a Tascam DM-3200 *Digital Mixing Console*, it seems from what I've read, that not only can I record on this but I can also use it as a desk with an amp. Is that correct? The Tascam site dosnt make it clear, but from looking at the read pannel it would seem I could do this. Would this be better than jsut buy a new PA and still running a studio to a Hard disk, the DM-3200 seems much better equiped for recording (obviously) so what you people think? I am also gona ask my band but they know about as much as I do about this. Thanks for any help.

I'd advise getting a new PA with full seperates- i.e. seperate mixer, powermap and speakers. That way, you can record to the HD recorder with your mixer (preferably 1 instrument at a time) and use it all together as a PA when you need to.

Yeah, thats what we have at the moment but its jsut to small. For demos we prefer to jsut do rough live takes to work on songs. The HD record nor the pa system we currently use is ours, we have "Borrowed" it. I believe looking at the specs for the tascam it could also be used as a desk anybody out know if it cant? Well I am going to go to a local shop and talk to them there, they really good with Pa's and recording software.
