After seeing parts of this movie on Showtime, I decided to rent it last night to see all of it.
Based on the life of Aileen Wuornos (played by Charlize Theron; who is also in "The Italian Job" as well as my avatar) who was sexually, physically, and emotionally abused all throughout her childhood, she flees her Michigan home to become a Daytona Beach, FL prostitute who became a serial killer. She engages in a lesbian relationship with a girl she meets named Selby (played by Christina Ricci).
I was bowled over by Theron's depiction of Aileen Wuornos. The makeup on Charlize made her possess an uncanny resemblance to the real Aileen Wuornos...and the expressions she showed were awesome, and as the film progressed and Wuornos became more psychotic, her eyes became more and more expressive. A totally convincing performance. Theron's body language was right on also. The way she smoked a cigarette and walked was wonderful.
Unpleasant and very little fun to watch but, despite some slips, it is a strong film and fair dramatisation of the story that is tragic, depressing and has nothing that will uplift you in any way.
Did anyone else liked this movie for the mere purpose that it didn't try to portray Aileen in particular anyway, but rather took an unbiased stance? For those who haven't seen it, I would HIGHLY recommend you watch.
Also, a bit of an interesting fact. . .the word "****" and all permutations of it are spoken 189 times in this movie.
