Well my friend rented it, and he said it was the funnest game he's ever played. Cursing him, I called all the blockbusters near me and of course they're all out and they said people have been constantly asking about it. It looks like I'll be stuck with either having to buy it (which isn't really an option, I spent another $120 on my bike today) or wait a few weeks for a copy to be in. Has anyone here played it?

This game looks awesome. I'm a huge Greek/Roman mythology fan, and this game looks like it will simultaneously stimulate my history and my gaming parts of the game. I'll probably get this and Splinter Cell:CT for my birthday (April 15th). I'm actually still trying to decide whether to get computer upgrades (more RAM, video card) or an electric guitar for my birthday.

I watched a friend play it, and I didn't think it was anything to great. Some of the fight scenes are cool, but I didn't think it was "amazing," as many people do.

Looks interesting. I read a few reviews on Amazon.com. My only hope is that it will be released on the PC (because it being released on the GC is quite doubtful). Otherwise, I'll never see it.

I saw the "making of"...

It looks cool, but it won't be accurate to any mythology as much as being a "greatest hits" of mythological characters and ideas. Should be cool, though.

Played it yesterday, it's a decent game but the fighting is very repetitive and fairly boring. Besides looking really nice I didnt see much new or worth buying.

 I doubt anyone was really expecting it to be historically (or mythologically I guess) accurate. But like you said, it looks sweet. I can't wait to play it. Of course since Blockbuster has no late fees for 7 days, noone will probably bring it back for 2 weeks.

I don't know what game you were playing, but this is one of the most fun games I've ever played.

It's like a combination of DMC and Mark of Kri, with a lot more violence added in. There are a whole bunch of combos you can do, such as sending enemies into the air, jumping up and then hitting them some more (like DMC). Or you can grab an enemy and rip him in half. There's one part where you're climbing up some of those wide rope ladders to get up to the top of a ships mast or whatever, and there's enemies climbing all around you. I was laughing so hard as I grabbed them and either just ripped them off and watched them fall, or repeatedly bashed them into the wood. I just got Medusa's Gaze too, which means I can freeze enemies then shatter them. Oh man this is an awesome game.

The plot is basically, Kratos, your character jumps off a cliff and after that it goes dark and says "2 weeks before" or somthing like that and you begin on a sinking ship or somthing

My buddy loves the game and thinks it's incredible, I played it and watched it for a good 2 hours at least. I guess im just biased toward the run, kill, jump formula. I can't get into those at all.

Well I haven't gotten far, but you're Kratos. You've been serving the gods for 10 years so they will get rid of the nightmares/visions you have of the evil stuff you did in your past. Ares started destroying Rome, and Athena sent you to kill him since gods can't fight against each other. 3 weeks later you're jumping off a cliff, but I don't know what happens.

The game is supposed to have combos equivalent to the Tony Hawk games. The only difference is killing people.

I rented it tonight, about a third of the way through perhaps. It's an incredibly fun game, and it has plenty of violence and carnage in it that, the way it is presented, is awesome. The gameplay is like magic: it's fluid, smooth, consistent. This game pwns Zakath, do you understand me dammit? It pwns.

Zakath
03-29-2005, 08:22 PM

Unfortunately I'm stuck dry-vac'ing our flooded basement. I'm sure Kratos would rather jump off a cliff then be stuck dry-vac'ing. :(

Last night I faced two new enemies.. one of them were large soldiers with a massive sword. The finishing move for them is you grabbing the sword hand, twisting it behind the guy, jamming it into his back then tripping him so he falls over back onto it. The other guys are the half man/half horse fellows. When you can do the finishing move on them, Kratos chops off their front legs then puts his other sword through their throats. Then I died at the END of the boss fight.. damnit it took me like 20 min to get him that far down..

Rotate the arrow gun so it faces that door. Go through that and eventually you get something which will let you.. "take care of" your little problem with the bridge.

The best part was when you had to sacrifice the soldier. That was GREAT. Best video game moment ever.

"Thank god you saved me!"
"The gods demand sacrifice, from all of us."

I just beat the game last night at about 4am after at least an hour-two hours of cursing and screaming at the ungodly impossible last boss fight. The first two parts weren't that hard and I liked the second part, but the third part of the fight was just not fun. Having beat the game, I think it's definitely one of the best fighting games I've ever played. There are, however, some parts that are simply not fun and I also didn't like the ending all that much.

There were two extremely annoying parts in the game. First when you're in Hades. Too much platforming and not enough fighting. Trying to climb those revolving pillars with spikes in them pissed me off to no end. Getting to within a foot of the top then hitting a spike and dropping allll the way down isn't my idea of fun. Also I didn't like the third part of the last boss fight. No magic, no blades, and Ares regains health when he hits you. What a terrible way to end an amazingly fun game. The second part when you fight the clones is lots of fun though. It should have ended there. Lastly, I didn't like the ending. Kratos is such a badass, I thought it was kind of lame to have the gods save him then decided to give him godship even though they wouldn't rid him of his nightmares. I think either a) Kratos should have died or b) he swears revenge against the gods who betrayed him, and the sequel is Kratos going up against the forces of Mount Olympus.:evil:

The awesome violence and brutality of the game more then makes up for the parts I didn't like. :thumb:  Every PS2 owner must at the very least rent it. What other game has you offering up a human sacrifice so you can continue your quest? That was definitely the most savage video game moment ever. Especially with the dead soldier who left the note that said something like, "I cannot do what the gods ask of me. Not even my quest is important enough to make the sacrifice that is asked of me."

I'd give the game a 9.5/10.

Yea. I don't really get why he thinks Kratos abandoned him, he was only a kid then and it wasn't his choice.

Or, if they had let Kratos commit suicide, the next game could have been a prequel and you can be Kratos when he works for Ares. That would be awesome to just tear through villages, men, women, children and entire armies. All for the glory of Sparta!!

Get off the rooftop, go downstairs and to the right. There should be a puzzle, you need to move the arrow launcher thingy to blast open the door, once you do, you'll gain Zeus's power

If you gain Zeu's power, you kill the kid upstairs and that will release the bridge

yeah, i'm convinced this is one of my top 10 games ever...

i beat it the day i got it, my and my 2 friends stayed up all night trading off.

i love the fact that while being the most brutal game pretty much ever (the sacrifice part is INTENSE) it retains every fun level of gaming... puzzles, parts that require patience and control, and then full on brawls.
the story line is amazing, the graphics are amazing for ps2, the weapons have a good feel to them, there are soooo many parts where you just think. "wow, i am so badass.... i just ripped the key off some guy's neck and let him fall to his death!"

amazing game. buy a ps2 now.
