hey, im looking for a computer based drum machine, without all of the techno/dance effects, just a down to earth, easy to use drum machine on the computer where i can create loops and stuff. i tried fruity loops, but i guess its more dance orientated, i just want a traditional rock one?

Most drum synths don't sound "quite right" for rock. It's largely b/c rock drums sound best when recorded live via microphone. One thing you can do w/ Fruity Loops is insert your own drum samples (you could buy CDs w/ samples or scour the internet for free ones) and use those.
The hardest thing to get right will be the cymbals, and especially the hi-hats. If you can find multiple samples of the same hihat being hit and mix up which samples you use in your sequences, that'll probably yield the best results. No matter what you do, it'll always have that synthetic feeling b/c it'll be too perfectly in time.
