anyone in this forums interested in boxing??
I definitely enjoy watching highlight reels of boxing matches, but I'm going to be totally honest and say I could never sit through a full fight.

Depends on what fight and who's fighting. Which fighter is boring you?

i have tacken karate, and they taught some boxing in it, and you know the punches and all. i am a right handed, and i like the southpaw position because i fence and the stance is very close to a right handed fencing stance. so right now i have a few questions:
1)can you switch stances in boxing, from southpaw to the other one (i dont know what it is called)?
2)any good combos beside the jab-cross-uppercut aka beginer combos
3) anything else i should know?

I'm pretty certain that I've seen some boxers switch between the two as a tactic to confuse the other fighter.
Actually, I think they did that in Rocky III.

It's no specific fighter. I just don't have the patience to watch a sporting event that stops and starts every 3 minutes.
Well, not unless it involves alcohol, junk food, and some drunk friends. And even then, it usually ends up getting turned off in favour of Mario Kart or some dumb drunken game like that.

i dont have a coach and the reason i was asking about being a southpaw was because that i have heard of right-handed southpaws.

yah there are right handed southpaws but it will really take a lot of practice to get used to that.

Hopkins slowed down in his last fight. I don't know if he has anything more to offer against Taylor.

1) Yes you can definitely switch from one stance to another
which is called orthodox.
2)Jab ...side step. hook to the body... slide up straight to the chin.
Jab... Jab... straight to the chin (fast) duck ... left and right hook to the body.
3) ask me any questions I would be glad to answer it. :)

I love boxing, been in the game for many years. Eric Morales is the greatest.

1) It's not recommended, even for advanced-level boxers. There's really no advantage to doing it, why weaken yourself by switching? Plus if you don't switch properly (ie crossing your legs) you're off balance and prone to being knocked down easily.
2/3) join a gym. You'll never learn boxing from reading/viewing, only from experience.

Ive been boxing for almost 4 years now and i think its one the greatest sports there is.(second to football) To answer the question about good combos here is my favorite one that i use.
Jab....wait for him to swing then duck.........right hook to the jaw....repeat

if he's beginning, the last thing he should be learning is combos... stick with the jab, the most important punch, and master it as well as your footwork before anything else.

I love boxing. My favorite has got to be when I watched the two lighweight champions of the world. Anyone remember their names? It was quite recent. I don't know. But it was an awesome match.

Barerra, by far.
Vitali Klitscho owns all. Regardless.
Vitali should have won that fight against Lennox Lewis, but it was a **** job.

**** that, klit is a robot with no heart. Lewis ate him up and would of KO'd him within the next round. A guy who quits against pansy-punching chris byrd deserves no mention here

sorry for asking a stupid, yet obvious question. What kind of excersises make up your routine?
I like the lighter weight classes they seem to tear into each other a lot more than the bigger guys.
Holyfield..... you were great retire before somebody kills you. what do you guys think of his wanting to go on?

Switching stances can be a great tool. I was born with an affinity for both my right and left hand (ambidexterity). When you fight a few rounds with a certian stance you can really catch someone off guard by switching.
But if you are weak in one hand then there is no point becasue you are less effective while in your weaker stance.

That might fool beginners, but will work against you against anyone w/ experience. Everyone is born with one side stronger than another, and if you switch to your weaker side against someone who knows what they're doing, they will exploit that right away and you'll pay. Plus, at that exact moment when you switch, you leave yourself open for an easy knockdown as you'll be off balance

Good point, but keep in mind boxers don't have many post-career options once they retire from the sport. They're not groomed or come up through the college ranks into the sport, usually have little education to fall back on, so it's their only ways to support themselves.
