C#, D, E, F, G, G#, A#, B
My instinct leans towards "not," because they have a really strange sequence of whole steps and half steps:
H, W, H, W, H, W, H, W
Is there any scale that comes CLOSE to this?

Well, I have this huge strings composition running through my head, and that was the scale it was based off of. I've transcribed a few lines, but I didn't know what key signature to put them in! I'm a drummer and my knowledge of rhythmic theory is alot stronger than my melodic theory, but I have alot of melodic ideas that I want to explore. I wanted to get a better idea of what exactly it was that I was playing, and where it came from, in order to get a better grasp for things. With this piece, I literally just sat in front of a piano and played it as I heard it, and that was how it came out...funny thing, almost none of my ideas seem to stick to "normal" major or minor scales!
Why would it be "D 'auxillary diminished'," exactly? Could it possibly be called C# Diminished? I'm just wondering because at one point in the piece, an instrument is playing straight runs up and down the scale in the order that I listed above, and C# feels like the tonic...
Thanks alot, guys. :) The piece is mostly in 7/8 time, and has a kind of Eastern/exotic feel to it, probably as a result of those diminished scales. It's mostly violins and cellos, but there's also some woodwinds and a distorted electric guitar later in the piece.

That sounds like a pretty cool piece.
I have never heard of an auxillary scale. What exactly is that?
