ok, i wanna start recording my band, i have 4 people: 2 guitars, 1 bass, and drums, i would like to be able to record us all playing our instruments at once, then i'd put my singing in after. i have two mics, my plan was to set up all the amps together in sort of a way that iis like a square missing one side, and put the mic in the middle, then put the other mic infront of the drums, would use this recorder:

however, this one only has 1 mic/line input thing

now, with the second one, you can only put one cable for a mic/other instrument into it, so would something like this work to get more cables into the recorder : http://www.music123.com/Hosa-YRA104-i18650.music
^ if that doesnt work is there something like that, that would put 2 standard cables through one?

I don't necessarily agree w/ either moaner or airborne on this one. I'll bet that monaer ends up being correct though.

It's really difficult to get a good sound w/ that sort of technique, though early 50's rock records were probably done that way, it took a lot of experimenting.

If you're dead set on buying nothing else b/s the recorder, Just make sure you buy something that has @ least 5 virtual tracks. This way you could record each part independently, and then do the mixing in the digital memory b/f you commit to tape. You could also output each track to a computer's soundcard, and do the editing and things using a software mixer to avoid having the finished product being a lousy-sounding cassette tape.

To be perfectly honest, your results will probably still not be to your liking. Even most demo studios use a mixer and multiple mics to get everything live. You can probably outfit a decent setup (4-6 mics for drums, DI boxes/mics for guitars/bass, vocal mics, and mixer) for under $2000. You can definitely get a "working" setup for under $600 if you shop around.
