It performs very close to an SM58, a few differences across the mid frequencies, but nothing that would ever allow an ordinary crowd member to think it any different from an SM58.
So yes to both, it's a nice mic and if you break it, it's not 70 pounds to replace it like the SM58.

Guys, how good is a Shure PG48 mic?
I've had one for a while and liked it, but I don't know how good it is.

pg48... well its for vocal applications strictly on the stage. it has no place in a studio, but from the little expirience ive had with it its not bad, although the frequency response ios a bit screwed up. ive seen it used mainly for speech and karaoke purposes rather than live music.
