OK first of all this is my setup:

[Shure PG58]--->[XLR to 1/4 inch 10 ft microphone cable]--->[Microphone input on my computers Advance AC97 crappy soundcard]--->[Adobe Audition 1.5]

my problem is this:

the volume of the mic is way way too low. although it sounds fine through my guitar amp, it is completely inaudible on the computer, unless it is amplified heaps, which makes the sound quality awful

so how can i fix it?

is the mic at fault, or do i need a new soundcard, or what?

please help.

well have you tried going into the windows mixer?

try this:

go down to the taskbar, (the little bar with the start button on it) and move your mouse near the clock. there should be a little grey icon that looks like a speaker. double click on it.

then a window with sliders will appear. Click file, then properties. select recording. then click OK.

there should be a slider that says Microphone. make sure that slider is up all the way, then try again.

if not, its the PG's fault...

because its a discount piece of ****

Inputs straight to the computer from microphones or guitars/basses tend to have a very weak signal, which is why people use pre-amps and stuff like that a lot.

you are doing it wrong, don't go directly into your computer with a recording mic. Get a preamp or a basic mixer.
