My band Under One Banner has finally recorded our first song, Turn Away. The recording isnt the best as it was done in my drummers bedroom using bad microphones and a laptop, but is pretty good quality considering the circumstances. If we could get some constructive critiscism on our song it would be much appreciated. our genre is hardcore.

You can get it here = http://www.purevolume.com/underonebanner

It was alright. Considering your limited recording sources I'll excuse the sound quality. The sound quality is just blah! lol :p

But, the song itself is okay. It's not good, definately not great, but its not terrible either. It reminds me of like old school punk kind of. 5/10 only because the recording quality sucked and your singer needed to actually sing more.

ok...Struck Everywhere, your recording wasn't piss poor..but you could make it better if you recorded the instruments and after that you recorded the lead singer so it comes out louder in the mix, (but don't make it too loud) as for the actual song...it was decent..defenately had the energy there and really the instrumentation wasn't piss poor I could see you getting a following in the punk scene if your energy and stage performance was right

PeopleCallMeAndrew - I would say also about the same thing to you as to Strike but one thing, your vocalist added no energy to the song, and I would defenately reccomend you hit him in the stomach and get him pissed..then record..because unless he puts his balls to the wall it's just not going to sound right..he wasn't a terrible singer but I can tell that he probably has to keep his singing low in order to sing decent at all..just get him to work on energy and maintaing composure and you'll have a competent singer

Thanks for the feedback, unfortunatly the way you suggested we record was infact the way we recorded, so maybe we're screwed. I'm guessing you don't listen to hardcore too much, so your comments on our song are actually pretty positive. Thanks.

hardcore punk like dag nasty? or hardcore metal?....be specific...lol (yes I do) when I said punk scene I meant hardcore punk...silly....heh...and since you said that was the way you record maybe you would just want to turn the vocals up...and like it said...you got the energy ;)

You listen to hardcore? Nice. I wouldn't really call Dag Nasty hardcore, maybe melodic hardcore/ emo. I would say hardcore as in Minor Threat, Gorilla Biscuits, Comeback Kid, is what we could be compared to.

I give it a 7/10. too bad you didnt have the proper recording materials, or else this song would of been better. As for your singer, he's really not that bad, he jus needs to work on it more, thats all. He did remind me of the singer from Void.

Thanks for your comments, by the way I'm the singer, but I don't take any neg comments to heart because I'm mainly a guitarist, the only reason I'm doing vocals is because I can sing and play at the same time, none of my other band mates can. Though I have been working on my vocals recently and they have definately been improving, so hopefully on the next recording they can sound better. Thanks for all your comments.

^ yah we get alot of rock "purists" who jus talk shi't to others just because they can play like eddie vanhlen or watever. They pretty much think, "if you dont have a twenty minute solo, yer song sucks". Hey man, jus work on your singing, it sounds pretty cool.

Well I did listen to it twice. Vocals sounds a little like Black Flags Henry Rollins. And the music was cool. It had energy.
Old-school HC sounding :)
