View Full Version : What is your musical goal in life?

I'm sure pretty much all of us started off with the goal of, "Get good and get signed to a major label, make millions of dollars, tour the world" etc...
And there's probably a lot of us who still want exactly that. But then there's probably some people who just want to master their instruments, or those who want to join an indie label and become famous. I don't know, there's a lot of different goals.
For me, I guess my ultimate goal is still to make music for a living. But I'm not holding my breath, hence why I decided to go to university.
But my much more realistic goal is to release a few completly independent albums on my own, and hopefully get them listened to by a lot of people. I don't know exactly how to do it, and I'm not at that point yet, but I know the internet can make my dream a definite reality.
What about you guys?

My musical goal is to start a 4 piece prog rock band, record our own CDs, and slowly rise up to the the point where we can show the world what good music really is, and hopefully repopularize good ol' rock 'n roll and progressive music.
Also without 'selling out' or signing into any recording company or commercial ads or anything.
It'll be hard, but it will be possible.

To eventually through the constant work I do, become a vocalist up there with all the Halfords, Tates, Tylers, and Dickinsons of the world.
Also to be able to be in a band that has enough popularity to be able to do that as my main income, or at least as a part time job.

My goal as a guitarist is to always get better and never to take it too seriously. I aim to always have fun with my music rather than get so good everything is life or death. Music is a hobby, something I choose to do, so I want it to be fun and worth my time, rather than a source of stress and annoyance.
Getting together a good bunch of musicians and playing as a source (if not my primary one) of income.
I just want to have a good time with my music.

Realistically, my goal is also to either teach music, sing, and play the piano for a living.

To get really good at the instruemnts I play(guitar and vocals), have a melodic death metal band and get signed o Nuclear Blast. So that way I could play music for a living.

I actually have a few music goals
1. Doing a National Tour- I want people to hear my music and feel my energy coming from my band and I.
2. Having some Fans- It's cool having people know who you are for what you love.
3. Signature Guitar- It would be sic to have a guitar to call your own and see other young musicians want to be like you.
4.Make a Great Cd-I wouldn't mind being a one hit wonder. but as long as i have one great cd that i enjoy i would be complete.
5.When I'm done with my own music career i would like to become an music producer for i can help other bands.
I dont really care for making it on T.v or Making millions of dollars(but i wouldnt mind it either) as long as i have money for rent, car and family that's all that matters to me.

1. Record a couple of volumes of my work playing everything on them except 'Bass' and 'Vocals'
2. Get to a decent level of drumming
3. Get my music heard by a lot of people
4. Get a nice cult following :)
5. Be recognised as a distinctive folk / rock musician / songwriter
I don't really care about getting signed, if I want people to hear my music I can handle distributing and promoting it myself if thats what it takes

My goal is to know my theory, play what I love, love what I play, and live comfortably from it.
I would also like to anonymously make obscene amounts of money through producing electronic music from my couch and laptop.
And maybe, just maybe, a signature bass from Ibanez.

To be able to carry on doing what I love.
That's all any artist can and will ask for.
Whether I make enough money to live on, or enough to buy a 32 bathroom mansion, it doesn't matter.
I do what I do for a love of music, I wouldn't feel any passion if I played for an empty room under the offer of millions, I would feel passion if I played for 100 people for 100 pounds.
There's nothing quite like getting off a stage after playing your heart out to get positive feedback from fans, to have made new fans and to hear people rave about your work.
^ That is where it's at, as long as I can pay my bills and put food on my table, I will keep making music for people until my vocal chords die, I am at the point in my life where the band is one of the most important things in my life, I spend most of my time planning for the band, working out how we can do certain things and booking gigs. It's stressful and the last week's been horrible in terms of stress, but it's worth it and I wouldn't have it any other way.

i want to be in a band that will play shows. maybe make a couple dollars. i really just want to do that, and recording a cd would be sweet. Ive been in a few different bands(all with the same drummer though) and all of them just seem to fall through. the first one we had was good, we had about 7 songs and were about to play our first show, and then we couldnt, because not all of the lyrics were done, and the other guitarist and basses got mad that we didnt play and quit. Then the drummer and i made a few different songs and couldnt ever get anything going. But now we have a new hardcore band and things seem to be going well. so well see

Once I was saying I would aim to play at the Melbourne Concert Hall because that's a pretty big thing to do... but I did that last year :p
As practically everyone else has said, I want to be able to do what I love for a living. Music isn't the only career choice for me, but if I could do anything at all, it would definately be music.
Mostly, I want to keep improving, always challenging myself to become a better musician. On guitar, I'm aiming for the standard of say Al Di Meola. That's definately a long term goal lol. I'm also aiming to achieve great results with up to at least grade 7 trombone - meaning I can take my music to uni.
Hopefully at least one of my bands will go through to - well who knows. We'll go as far as we can. And as long as we do our best, I'll be happy.

over time i want to be able to master my instrument yet at the same time i want to be learning more about it everytime i sit down.
as far as goals go, first off i want to write some songs with the new band i am in, then i'd probably want to play an awesome live gig at a party or at a show.
Then after that i'd want to get through university with a degree in electronics or audio engineering of some sort then work for a guitar shop or an amp company or something whilst teaching guitar part time, and with the occasional gig (i'd say that gigging and going on tour would be reserved as a hobby for me).

I want to do vocals in a Christian black/death/cathedral metal band until i cant scream no more, then do guitar for said band.... And get a medium-sized record deal, and go on tour of the U.S., somewhere down the road... for now, I'm content with my hometown... maybe San Antonio..... But I will NEVER become a mainstream, merch-driven fag.... ever.

My goal is to keep progressing, learning more, and writing more. Right now I play piano/guitar/voice quite well, but I expect to learn more instruments.
I am also in college working on a concise philosophical code of aesthetics, primarily focused on music. My degree program is a double major in music composition and philosophy, which is a very good juxtaposition to help me visualize the big picture. I also have several musical/lyrical concepts I am developing, the most world shaking being something I call auditory puzzles.
